As a goat breeder myself, I take the health of both my nannies/billy and the kids VERY seriously!! I once had a 2 day old kid nearly die of hypothermia and he would’ve if I had listens to others naysaying the level of care I was giving him, but that little kid after a warm bath and 5 days of recovery and round the clock care, he made a 100% recovery, went back to his own nanny and grew up into a very healthy goat. I watch your videos very closely to train myself for breeding a little clutch of budiges myself this coming summer. The adult pair I have picked meet all the checkboxes you describe. And yes, again, I take animal care VERY seriously! (I miss having a tame bird around and raising youngsters from the nest is most effecting for building a good bond.)

I have a tip for you to see if the baby budgie eats everyday! Just ckeck its belly and if it's full means they eat well . Hi i am 12 years old. And i have two budgies supposed to be my sister's but she doesn't take care of them. And so.. because i am the most person to love animals in the family they gave me the birds. I wasn't expecting to have 4 eggs on the first nest and really i didn't know what to do cuz i didn't know they were breeding.. But i was lucky cuz they didn't hatch because i didn't give them other food than seeds.. so it wasn't ferlite. Well i tried searching and i found everything i need!. I kept giving them different kinds of food including seeds every day. So on the second nest i got prepared and had 6 eggs!. And when i checked them all on the 15th day.. they were all ferlite! Only two eggs were orange with little heart and red things cuz they were the 2 new eggs. And the others were all red with everything you will see in a ferlite egg. Suprisingly they all hatched and i had beautiful babies mix of green and blue 😁. That's my experience hope you like it!

Breeding is not easy I know a lot of breeders don't even care if some die and others survive. It is said usually a female can lay 4 to 7 eggs or more. Usually even if they all hatch the younger ones die because the other ones overpower when it's feeding time. I owned budgies many years and I had two different females that layed eggs one was terrible and ate her eggs the other was absolutely brilliant caring for her chicks. There are a lot of factors to a successful nesting and breeding, and definitely, if you have multiple budgies it will not work in the same cage you have to seperate them and it takes a special budgie and a lot of work and dedication from your part. My one female layed 7 eggs, I only had her and the male at the time, so he actually was a lot of help to her. He would bring food to her as well. I ran into the issue where the 3 smallers ones that hatched later, were so small, the first ones would overpower. However the female was so lenient to us that she would allow for us to clean the nest and move the chicks. I used to put the three littles ones with her by themselves while the others where warm in a cozy rag. She would feed the little ones, when i put the other ones back I made sure the littles ones stayed on top. They all survived. The two smaller ones however didn't grow as big but they were pretty healthy all their life and lived way over 5 years, the third one actually developed fine. But like I said it's a whole number of things, takes good budgies and work from your part. I think 2 and half years to 3 is a great age for breeding, anything before that I don't think so. I did hear it's very rare all the chicks to survive, especially if it's too many eggs, just remember.

Dawn Judd / it’s very sad when I got one Budgie and spent time with him for 60 days... he seemed very lonely 😞 and I felt bad, thinking I am responsible. I would scratch his cheeks when he would let me. I got two more young Budgies. Now all three were young and I thought they would all groom each other... Within 3 hours, my original Budgie started attacking one of the new Budgies. I was 😩 dismayed. My original Budgie was asking the other new budgie for a head scratch. Not interested. So my poor lonely Budgie could not get a head scratch and began to be a bully to one of the new ones. One month later I got a fourth budgie. Put him with original. Again original started attacking the new one. Do I give up ? Do I get yet another Budgie to see if the attacks continue ? I now separate the aggressor Budgie in a cage soilitary, while the three new Budgies get along fine. I wonder where the book is on Budgies behavior ????

I also believe he is warning newly decided budgie breeders to REALLY RESEARCH because there are so many pit falls and mistakes that can be made out of inexperience and ignorance to the pitfalls could end up giving you dead babies and dead birds and it would be the owners fault in that regard. It would be ABUSE because you can not give the birds everything they need to survive. Of course they don't mean to abuse the birds or kill them but that's exactly what happens if you aren't careful HECK! i would even advise new breeders to have a vet that can deal with not just budgies but baby budgies and build a relationship with them so if you have an emergency you know where to go immediately instead of guessing because not all vets deal with all animals, Some just are not comfortable taking on smaller animals.

Thank you for this video. Glad that it exists. Luckily I'm new to this so I'm learning all I can and luckily came across this channel. Loving it so much. My only real question is how do I get my new budgies to accept pellets and fruit and veggies? The pet store said they were raised on a all seed diet. I tried watermelon chunk, cantaloupe, and honeydew I thought those would be a easy intro I was wrong. There I'm assuming 2 male budgies there cere's are started turning blue in the last 2 days. There still in the nervous stage and there head lines are to the beak on the white one and the yellow pale striped green bellied Houdini's stripes are almost neon green so hard to tell a little on the yellow but there eyes are fully black I ran to check. so I play allot of lonely budgie videos well I'm waiting on there flight cage hoping a bigger cage and natural perches and maybe 2 more friends will help them relax faster. All I know is they will naturally love me or be spoiled. But the green one just let me pet his belly and feet threw the cage without being afraid so i think we are on the right path? What do you think? F.Y.I. My amazon cart is very full I'm looking at a incubator, a feeding set, and some formula to have on standby I also have the start of there first aid kit coming in lets hope they never need it.

@@beatrizsoto1167 in my experience. If they are eating their eggs it means that they are not getting enough calcium and if they are chucking the eggs out it could be due to them knowing the eggs are no good or there could be some outside disturbance. I do have a bird here that doesn't not like me looking at their eggs. So i leave her alone and generally only check that girl once a week to make sure everything is going fine. Just use a mite treatment it’s pretty simple. Also dust the aviary/cages/nest boxes with diatomaceous earth it’s a natural insect killer! I use an in water parasite treatment for my birds I can’t remember the name but got it from amazon it treats mites, lice and worms

So grateful you have posted this video. I have all My four budgies together and i am studing their behaviour day by day. I found out like humans They have preferencies. So My two adult ones arent showing interests in each other despite being male and female. Inatead My adult male seems To be much bonded To The youngest female wich is just starting To have dots under her cheeks and her cere is still pale White blue. So i presume she is starting To have 5 months or so. She likes To be in The nest too. Of course i don't want To breed her before time. But The cool thing is My adult male likes To Court her much than The other wich is already adult.this proove To me that They are exactly like us humans and that age in love has never been a problem ♡♥♡ instead feelings is what matter

Very good video ! People need to be more prepared if they want their budgies to breed. I have seen both my budgies breeding and my canary birds breeding. One thing this video didn't mention is that for any type of bird, it is always a great risk for female bird might get egg binding problem which would cause death of female bird. So bird owners need to consider if they are willing to let their be loved birds to take such risk or not, before decide to let birds breeding. Especially never let any female birds which are 4 years old or older, because older female birds have higher risk of egg binding. Also do well preparations before hand: give birds enough calcium months before and after breeding (either cuttlebone or liquid form of calcium), let birds exercise enough so they have strong fitness, and not overweighted. Find out the local vet, so you can carry bird to vet quickly enough in case egg binding would occur. Another issue: it is rather easier to control letting budgie breeding or not (comparing to canaries). If not give them nest box, even they mate, bird would not lay any egg without nest box.

My girls started mating and laying eggs. So I got them nest boxes so the eggs wouldn't die. One girl layed 9 and the other layed 4. My baby birds have started hatching. 3 so far. They're very cute. I did make a plan for the babies after they are old enough to be seperated from the parents. A local pet shop takes budgies all the time. It's actually where I got 2 of mine. I've been making sure they have all the suppliments and things to stay healthy. And I have quite a bit of bird food on hand. And some bird formula just in case. After this, I'm going to do what I can to prevent more babys though. I think that the longer days had a pretty big impact. So hopefully making sure to cover their cage at night and turning off the lights earlier helps.

I've raised and bred a variety of birds. Currently I have a bonded pair of white face blue budgies that yes I'm going to breed. If only just once to see what they throw genetically. I have also handfed budgies and cockatiels. I knew that the young birds I got should be in my home before breeding for at least a year so few things would scare them. They have had a spacious cage for most of that time frame. I built a cage about the same space size in case the nest box door still doesn't work properly for the box I have coming so I can easily create the hole I need if I need to go that route.

My parents keep saying that lulu is gonna lay an egg and I hate it when they say that cause Lulu is literally only 4 months in my knowledge. She is to young and not ready. I understand why she goes in the bowl. I am only starting to train them. So she gets scared obviously and hides. My mom takes that seriously and says she is making the egg in her tummy. But that's not true. I wish they would understand.

That's a very sincere comment, and it's hard when our grown parents just don't know any better. But allow yourself a little tougher skin. Emotional distress never helps or solves anything, not even any contribution size. Maybe point out, young "girl" bird 's are not suppose to lay eggs. ( I had a 4 month old that laid eggs, benign of course, then mated with an 22 month male and accident, I corrected promptly during free flight. Then she laid 16 eggs, all benign and it nearly killed her. She was the most over sexed female i ever had/ saw, but such a Darling Sweetheart too! I re homed her, and her siblings I bought from some one and their parents, just to get them out of neglect/ negligent breeding of origin owners. They all got rehomed to good people that wanted them. If your folks won't disist from zeroing in on you and your pet bird(s) you ought consider re-home and have when you get your own place, other birds so you don't get pressured into breeding birds from lack of experience. If you stop responding/ reacting, they ll eventually drop the taunting, even harmlessly teasing intended. There's no reward in no reaction.
