I said the same thing a week or 2 ago. The rules clearly state that this call goes for both the offense and defense, yet only gets called against the offense once every couple of years, at best. The NFL wants to limit these hits and tells the defense to learn to not lead with and lower their head, but says nothing when the offensive player does it.

Offensive line coach Chris Foerster: "If they ask me, invest in guys that touch the ball and score touchdowns. And then there's a range of guys, second, third, fourth round, fifth round even, that we will find starting offensive linemen." Kyle Shanahan: "I’ve never been on a team that was favored to win every game the whole year before the season started. And we’ve been (listed as) that two years in a row. So what that tells me is people think we’ve got a really good roster. Well, if we were drafting only O-linemen, we wouldn’t have as good of a roster." Also Kyle Shanahan: "Taking offensive linemen in the early rounds is the safe NFL play. You don’t get criticized if you can shuffle off a mediocre tackle to guard or some other variation. Taking wide receivers or defensive linemen could be riskier. But those are the players that probably can do more to help win games." Motherfucker you already have the best running back, one of the best QBs, TEs, and 2-3 WRs in the fucking game. PROTECT THEM!

The hit on Fields, while brutal, wasn’t a roughing the passer. The hit shows separation between the defenders helmet and Fields helmet, which provides evidence it wasn’t helmet to helmet. Defenders helmet was into Fields chest with his face mask up.
@mepp7573Күн бұрын
"A defensive player must not use his helmet against a passer who is in a defenseless posture-for example, (1) forcibly hitting the passer’s head or neck area with the helmet or facemask, even if the initial contact of the defender’s helmet or facemask is lower than the passer’s neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the passer by encircling or grasping him" We dont have to like the rule, but I do think the officials have reason. Collinsworth even points how the helmet gets "under the chin", which is definitely the head or neck area in my opinion.
