Well...then you too better have something of your own expertise.... It can be anything...a baton...a sword...or your own machete....but it'd be best if it's a long range weapon like a Bo staff or katana...you don't wanna get anywhere close to his Machete... Id suggest nunchucks....if learnt properly... you'll have the best defence possible... those rotating nunchucks leave no blind spots... and each hand can carry enough torque to knock a guy out in one swing..... Nunchucks are best weapon of choice in my opinion.... even against multiple guys it comes handy... it's just so fast and unpredictable that they cannot close in on you....that is if you know how to use one properly...

If you can run that's the best option but if they corner you, well maybe adrenaline and survival instinct may lead you find whatever idea or strike to minimize damage.

Besides what everybody else is pointing out, I want to add that your approach to dealing with a long attacker with a machete who somehow isn't also chasing you while slashing at you (which like, where do you live where this is ever gonna happen) is fundamentally awful in every way. Why are you getting closer to this person? Machetes are fast and they don't require power to cut you up bad. Cuts from the wrist are what you'd need to worry about, and I'm not pulling that out of my ass. Unfortunately you can find real machete fights here on youtuber. Watch them and ask yourself: "will I actually be able to get close enough to this person to control their weapon?" You can also watch machete fencing (real thing) or this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmeciYB4YrV8hK8si=qkB9-Cwpz6B1X_sr . Your best bet is not going to be getting closer to the danger. IF, and only IF you have no other option, your best bet is going to be trying to kick them before you attempt any kind of control or takedown. They probably aren't trained in any way, so they'll probably flinch, giving you room to go on the offensive. I'm also not pulling this out of my ass, somebody actually tested this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4TLeX2Kad95Zqs Just look up "MMA fighter vs knife"

gross misrepresentation of tempo/distance (which are the same, ultimately), which is pretty common for these "unarmed weapon defense" vids. every step/movement you take in measure is an opportunity to get hit, or for the other person to recover. Every step you take outside of measure allows the other person to move without constraint (although it's safe for you). Considering most machetes only weight about a pound, it doesn't take very long to move it around; and the unarmed person is also at a considerable disadvantage of tempo, due to reach. You cannot move fast enough to overcome the reach disadvantage here (unless the person is almost too drunk to even stand). If unarmed fighting was so great/effective, we wouldn't have spent the last 100,000 years figuring out ways to hit each other with things... and if technique was so effective against weapons, we wouldn't have made armor. The right answer here is to beat feet, grappling with a weapon involved (assuming the other person is remotely determined to use it) is suicidal.

You have to at least move to dodge whether you'll turn and run away or if you have no choice but to fight. In weapon defenses like this you can only counter when the persons arm (and weapon by extension) is furthest from the body or closest to it. So if running isn't an option, you really really want to run but can't, dodge a swing then counter at the end of a swing. Though know bladed weapons are much more dangerous to defend against. Dodging is first, and trying to escape is second.

Is it possible to block the hand or hands holding a sword or bat….. in baseball you see the batter, his fists holding the bat come towards you first then the bat. Is it possible to block the hands or fist holding the object before the weapon hits you ? Thank u
@wildrangeringreen

the hand moves ahead of the weapon if you want to get hit in the hand... basic body mechanics, combined with the reach of the weapon. Unless the other person comedically underestimates measure (as in: measure is 5.5-6 feet, and he's 2 feet away), the weapon is going to lead. Essentially, unless the person is almost too intoxicated to stand, or is in the process of producing the weapon, trying to constrain the body or weapon while unarmed isn't going to work. Grappling with someone who has a weapon (especially if it's sharp) is suicidal.

@@manny4552 stay out of measure, sweetheart. Weapons trump pretty much any and all unarmed fighting, that's why they were invented in the first place. Without a weapon of your own, the guy with the weapon has no reason not to continue cutting and advancing/ retreating to maintain measure. Even a knife, while an inferior weapon to something like a machete, decreases the disparity in tempi you two have (plus increases the risk of serious bodily harm for the machete wielder, possibly making them second guess their decision to attack you) Unarmed, or armed with a vastly inferior weapon (like a dinky keychain knife or kubaton), your options are to run, or fight and get maimed/killed Even when clearing brush (which is a good way to learn how to cut effectively, btw), the blade leads the hand; since you don't want to bash your hand into the things you're cutting (plus it increases your reach). In my understanding, for mid-range heavier weapons like machetes, the attacker usually winds up for a forceful slash. They are not trying to make small cuts like a pocket knife would. The two timings to close in and neutralize the threat are when the attacker is fully wound up, and when the motion reaches its end. However watch for expert katana wielders though, those amazing swordsman can turn their blade around in a blink of an eye.

Grappling with someone who has a weapon in hand (particularly if it's sharp or a pistol) is suicidal. Any sort of free-play where you don't have a compliant partner makes that very apparent. Another way to say it is "Will this work? I think it naught, champ" You will be killed outright 9/10 times, and that last time, you'll almost have him worried for a second before he guts you (extreme levels of intoxication notwithstanding). Beat feet and/or give him what he wants, it's the only way you're getting out of that situation. If unarmed combat was so effective, we wouldn't have spent the last 100,000 years coming up with ways to hit each other with things; and if simple technique overcame weapons, we wouldn't have developed armor.
