Weird I lived in Japan for a couple of years and this has changed my life and values for ever. SO MUCH THAT the frustration that Bennet is talking about, is PARADOXLY raising and mounting in my home country (Italy) after over 20 years in a country marred by populism fake values and familism. I am fed up and have the same feeling of wanting to leave for JAPAN again..

Reading his Introduction in "Hagakure" it's clear this man is a tremendous communicator. I found his contextualizing of the period to be almost as interesting as the book itself. I should read more of his books, he is a very good writer.
