kendo is a sport....basically fencing in Japanese style...dont hear western fencer go on about bushido crap...makes them sound harder than they are.....this guy couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.....its tapping people on head and wrist with a split bamboo stick,,,basically martial art larping

Lol. Yes, Martial Arts LARPing is a pretty apt description of their competitions. Also, you should do your research - Alex Bennett is also a high-level black belt in Iaido, which means he does know how to cut someone with a live blade.

@@agentapathy no iaido is singular practice....so he doesn't....done my research....did kendo for 20 years and kenjutsu styles for 10....hence why i know its BS re self defence...other than a sport...which is excellent....put him in a ring with any level of MMA i guarantee the outcome...and so would he if you asked him.

@@alexandermacgillivray715 Put a MMA guy in a Kendo shiai and he'd get his ass kicked. Put a HEMA guy in a Kickboxing ring and he'd get his ass kicked. You logic is so flawed in almost made me chuckle a bit. That's like putting a fish in the sky and asking it to fly. Kendo isn't made for self defense. And to be fair, MMA isn't made for self defense either. There's waaay more than be able to punch a guy when it comes to self defense. No one is saying Kendo is more than a sport. But the philosophy behind Kendo is more than a sport. For someone who have done Kendo and "kenjutsu styles" for more than 20 years, you sure lack a understanding of the philosophy behind japanese styles of martial arts and sports. The only art you've been training for the past years appears to be the secrect art of being a keyboard warrior.
