So much in bloom. It's a pity the two society Spring shows are too early for most Dendrobiums.

You grow such cool plants! And I really like your style “it was to busy dying” :) I’m so sorry about your dog, I’m a dog owner myself so I know how it feels :(

Thank you Anita. I know but the good thing is that we can make the choice when we have to. After a really bad few weeks he is now really bright but the bad bits are beginning to outweigh the good bits so we will see what happens.

All my Dendrobium findlayanum does is new growths and keikis. Love the flowers, maybe someday I will be able to get mine to bloom. I am 99% sure that garden snails have been laying eggs in my water barrels. I only use it in my overhead misting system now as it has a filter and the reservoir is fully inclosed. Thank you for sharing all your lovely blooms.
@lynnsmith93972 жыл бұрын
I think it is all about the right light levels for that one and this one has recovered nicely but has yet to give us a decent flowering. I also have a mount with 2 keiki’s on that came from Roger a couple of years ago and whilst it is still putting out new growths it has not flowered yet.

So many blooms! Well done, Lynn. I've killed another unicum, not possible to grow it on a windowsill. But my sarc ceciliae is blooming! Sorry to hear about your dog.
@lynnsmith93972 жыл бұрын
I lost a few buds on this one as I did not see the dratted bush snail, they are sneaky little critters and this one had 15 flower spikes on it, I was not impressed. It is a stunning plant and I love the colour. Well Toby has had a really good week this week but we just take it as it comes now. Have your Sarc’s finished flowering yet.
@martinafaust48512 жыл бұрын
Mind you, I looked at my unicum yesterday and it actually is still alive and is pushing 3 new growths! Unbelievable! Apart from my Sarc ceciliae, none of them are blooming any more. Lost my olivaceus, should have cut the spike when it arrived! I'll email you a photo of my ceciliae.

😁 Lovely. I'm happy to report that the little Berry Oda has doubled in size. It had some problems when it came here but it finally stopped sulking
@lynnsmith93972 жыл бұрын
They do take a while to stop sulking these Dendrobiums, glad it is progressing.

Ohhhh so many beautiful flowers! But what happened with the Sarcs? Would loved to se your collection of flowers this year.😊
@lynnsmith93972 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mari, there was a Sarcochilus update when flowering started but the bit I planned to film when flowers all opened did not get filmed because of circumstances here. First we had Covid then Toby was really quite poorly and I did not film for a while. Sorry. There will be more to come next year and should be more flowers as those sulking from the late re-pot should be back in their rhythm by then.

Stunning Dendrobium collection. Would like to know more about this specie. Are their cultures different; time of year, nutrients, light,, humidity ( 50% + at all times?) and water frequencies. The benefits of mounting and not potting. your phrags a wonderful too. Is Cordotum in coconut husk only or is it a mix. Thank you for your time again. Your intermediate house with tolumnias is wonderful too. How do you decide which environment for each specie and how many houses do you have. I really think orchids do better when there are many in space close together such as yours. Does the Spanish moss help also? Wow Cuthberts. Can you get "flying skull" in uk. That has killed my snails.
@lynnsmith93972 жыл бұрын
So much to think about with Dendrobiums, and different ways to treat different groups so you are best getting information on what you actually want to try and grow. Some are winter resting, some are not, some grow cool some grow intermediate and some grow warm depending on where they come from. Spanish moss helps keep the humidity up in the summer although it is starting to take over now and I need to break some bits down into smaller pieces. Not sure I have ever heard of ‘Flying Skull” we do not have much we can get hold of here in the UK which makes life very difficult at times. Thank you for watching.

You have a lot of plants and you seem to be able to recall their names easily. Sorry to hear about your dog. It's a difficult decision to make, we had to make that decision six months ago for our big boy. It was the right thing to do but that didn't make it any easier then or now as I think about him.

We have battled this megaoesophagus for nearly 4 years so we knew the end would come as they just cannot fix him. He has had a bad few weeks but now seems to be having a better spell so we just play it by ear, we can do no more.

Nice to see a bloom on Den fleckeri, just love that one. I just made a cross to see if it was possible, I don't know that it will be a particularly useful cross. I had a Lycaste brevispatha x bradeorum in bloom and crossed it with Grammatophyllum scriptum var leopard. Obviously pod development doesn't guarantee progeny, but if it is a possible cross, I'll be interested to see what develops. If Lycaste x Grammatophyllum is viable, and produces smaller plants (as with Lycaste) but long multi-bloom spikes (as with Grammatophyllum), using the alba version of scriptum could be an interesting avenue of breeding with the larger flowered Lycaste.
@lynnsmith93972 жыл бұрын
Gotta love flickeri but I have been trying to grow this plant for years and I ought to just give up. Every time it goes down I rescue it, I love it and gracicaule but they are very problematic. Trouble is with making your own crosses you never know what you are going to get, even crossing ignea with coccinea (red) there is no guarantee that they will all look like they should. This year as well the coccinea are slow to flower which means storing the pollen. This in itself should be ok but who can tell. I had a beautiful red coccinea about to open when along came Mr Slug and nipped it off the spike. Uuuuuurrrrrgh

Great variety of blooms! Question: what is your experience with the clay tablets as a mount? Do you notice any difference for the plants compared to cork slabs? Do you need to water more often? How does the remounting work?
@lynnsmith93972 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jean Pierre. I really like the clay slabs but not all orchids do like them. I use them for Tolumnia, minature dendrobiums and the odd Dendrobium moniliforme. I find anything that is mounted needs a lot of watering, the clay is porous so once a day is usually sufficient.
@jeanpierreviergever14172 жыл бұрын
@@lynnsmith9397 Thanks! I will give it a go with a Den moniliforme.

Realy alot of beautiful flowers. But I am not sure your Dendrobium dickasonii is that ( sorry)! After what i have looked up, dickasonii should have a more orange lip( Sorry i can't put up compair photos). I can also be wrong! I will ask if someone in NOV ( Netherlans Orchids society) have a conclusive ansvar 😊
