Oh my goodness, so many plants 😲, and you can remember them too. The Sarcs look nice and healthy. I keep checking mine for spikes but still no joy yet. You sound as though you either need some decent sleep or more coffee 😄, I'm yawning with you in sympathy. It's good to see what moniliformes should look like in winter. I was worrying about leaves falling off but some new growths are coming too on mine (I only have one 😄) Thanks for the video, it's great to see what you're up to and what I should be doing 👍

I cannot wait for this flowering season and hopefully without any dramas for a change. I am keeping the Neo’s and Moniliforme drier than usual this year but need to remember not to let the cuthbertsonii to stay dry. At least I know none of the Sarc’s will want re-potting this year. Neo’s still in moss are still all to do though. ❤

West of Seattle WA USA we have 17 degrees Fahrenheit and 10% humidity. Inside my orchids have 78 degrees Fahrenheit and 50% humidity... yesterday I could get my humidity up to 75%> My Miltoniaopsis are blooming along with several others. Thanks for the video.

I’m sorry about you “Annus horribalis” last year but it when it happens to experienced growers like you it makes me feel slightly better about my own disasters/life getting in the way events!!! Hope things settle for you soon.

Thanks Karen, it is what it is and so easy to make the wrong decision with these critters and don’t even get me started on knocking newly re=potted orchids that end up on the floor because you knock them over. We live and we learn 😂

What works for me with Sarcs is plenty of water in summer on the balcony. In winter, they live on the south facing window in our unheated bedroom (temp going down to 9C sometimes), I water them only when I can do it in the morning and on sunny days. I've currently got 8 Sarcs and 6 of them are spiking. I still hope for the other 2 to get going, it's still early. But the ones that have spikes have started a lot earlier this season.

I have been watering mine once a week during the winter and feeding since beginning of December because they are putting a lot of effort into their growing spikes and roots. Found the first spike 28th December, which is crazy really, normally I get spikes middle of January. Those that grow indoors, I would say, possibly get early spikes, but not always. Other members of our Orchid Society have them flower later than me. Believe it or not I still have a couple that have not flowered since I have had them either. I have changed how I grow them this season which will work better for me hopefully. Time will tell for sure. Cannot wait to see everyone’s flowers.

I've had 3 scar, lost 1. they have never bloomed for me. I grow in a sunroom in my home with windows on the east, north and very little on the west. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

They like to be cooler and like lots of air movement. I have now got them in just medium bark and use ventilated pots as well.

Please could you give me some advise about my Sarc. hartmanii. Had it for 3 years and cant get it to spike. Have 8 others that flowers for me. 😃

I used to have this problem and grow mine colder now as a result. That said I also have a few that have never flowered. These were hybrids. The species seem to flower each year. It is down to conditions and they do not like the heat for sure.

Sorry about your losses but did you fill the humidifier with tap water?
@lynnsmith93979 ай бұрын
Hi Ed, no i use rain water in the fogger.
@EdsOrchids9 ай бұрын
Thanks Lynne ..I only asked because I have read somewhere that using tap water with a high tds can be a no-no for some plants....thanks for your reply....take care, Ed.

No we live in different counties but belong to the same Orchid Society and he is on the committee same as me. Distance wise I suppose he is over an hour away more like hour and a half.
