Hey is this patrick ? If so...we have e-mailed some years ago...for me getting the flies for my 04 R1...and i did get them...i should tell they made a difference in all powerband...even when i had stock engine. The real benefits came when i build the engine and mapped via pc3....there the flies helped achive even better results filling any gaps and giving torque everywhere. Thanks it was definitely worth it.!!!

@sszgo It improves throttle response and power in the mid range. In stock form, when you pin the throttle, the servo driven secondary flies open very slowly, allowing only partial potential power for the period it is opening. By reducing the size of the flies, more air is available immeadiatly; even before they begin to move (throttle response) and as the flies rotate toward their maximum open position (mid range). Top end is not effected.

Then why not remove all the flies?

To improve the FZ1 do three things before any engine mods 16 tooth front sprocket (£10) jack up kit (25mm)(£50) second hand 04 on R1 forks (fully adustable) and brakes (radial) (see ebay). You will be amazed how much quicker the bike steers Richard Great video though thanQ

this mod adds between 8-10 bhp right down low on the revs, remove them all together with a moded air box and free flow filter its too much for the pcv and ecu to cope with so bike will "BOG" down , I did my fz1 over 5 years ago and used these exact moded plates as the dyno showed the removal makes the bike run too lean ( will all my mods ) so she now has 150 rear wheel horse power , more than 16 bhp over stock. Custom map and full Akrapovic. NOTE, ecu flash will do a great job and cheaper , but these flies help massively with the snatchy throttle ,mine now runs smooth!

it is ok for me to do this mod on fz1 2007 with mivv suono with stock air box and stock filter?

Great video, thank you for taking the time. I disonnected the little arm that controls the flies a long time ago but would have used this method instead had I seen it laid out step by step. Keep up the good work. FZ1OA member

Is there a difference between your modded flies and the aftermarket ones ? In your video, you switch to the aftermarket ones. Its visible at around 02:07 - 02:09...

So I had an ECU flash done on my bike. If I remove the flys completely, the bike shouldn't run lean because of the ECU flash right?

What ist the dimensions of oryginal flies plate size in cm? And what should be size after cutting them? Should I size them down like 2,3,4 or 5mm?

Do i absolutely need a power commander after replacing flies ? If yes, why ? If no, why? thanks =)
@buelle10912 жыл бұрын
I advise that you do need a PC3 or 5. Why? Because you are changing the timing/amount of air that enters the engine. Some believe the the bike's ECU can handle this - I am of the opinion that it is better to have a PC and be sure.

can this flie mod be applied on the 04-05 r1 since basically same motor and probablly throttlebodies?
@mark530ni9 жыл бұрын
Could you just drill a hole in each of them and achieve the same thing? Also I noticed that mine open automatically with the throttle grip, with the bike turned off, IE. not controlled by the ECU. Of course this might be an EU/US model difference, mine is EU. If anyone can confirm that???

I know this is an old video but I ha e a 2011 yamaha fz8 and I want to do this mod to my bike but I have no idea where to buy more sub throttle plates. If you might be able to help this would be much appreciated.
@buelle1093 жыл бұрын
Not sure if anyone makes smaller flies for that bike, your only option may be to do what I did and cut them down yourself. Its not that hard.
@OGBandit13 жыл бұрын
@@buelle109 do you know where to but oem ones? I can't even seem to find a part number. Just incase I don't like it or I mess up I'd like to have a backup on standby. I was looking on all the oem parts sites and none of the break downs for the manifold show these as a part I can purchase separately from the manifold.
@buelle1093 жыл бұрын
@@OGBandit1 If I am not mistaken, the only way to buy the secondary plates is to buy the whole fuel injector assembly.

that process should be done after installing the gas tank to avoid damaging the fuel injectors, the air trapped in the fuel line (must be switched off and on repeatedly switch only thousands of times and not the engine for air exit ducts gasolinay not damage the injectors, that process takes you?). thank you very much

I sure could use some help with a basket case 2009 FZ1 that has been sitting for 8 years with fuel inside the tank.
@buelle1098 ай бұрын
Funny you say that. I recently had to go through my FZ's fuel system because mine had set for about two years. There are tons of videos on taking care of a rusty tank with vinegar - which is what i did. And i also rebuilt my entire fuel pump. Total cost was about 100 bucks. Did some other stuff like new coils and plugs but my FZ runs like new.

Me neither. Had an RN12, and I just removed the secondaries, nothing adverse happened - but I never lug any engine with WOT @ low rpm in high gear. Doesn't really made any difference. Why would one just lessen the obstriction + put hours of work into that instead just removing it? (some others removed their shaft too) A race baffle, or velocity stack upgrade on the other hand made a really noticeable improvement.
@buelle10912 жыл бұрын
Hahahaha, thats a very funny thing you did there! But seriously, your numbers are off a little. In stock form the 2nd gen FZ1 puts down about 128 at the rear tire and with full mods gets in the 150 range. Gutting the cat is a cheap, (free actually) way of gaining about two to four of those extra 20 or so horsies - I like horsies. But yeah you would be better off just getting a full exhaust system.

@R1KSU did you just change the front sprocket to 15 tooth? I have a fz1-N 2008, and as far as i understand it comes with 17 tooth front( right?). I read somewhere that for every tooth down on the front sprocket you should go 3 up on the rear sprocket. I want to change to 16 or 15 tooth on mine, but do you also need a new chain? Many thanks for you advice.

dogs are sweet sometimes but all things considered i think cats are better pets to own because they eat and shit on their own time. as for this upgrade, who needs it? on a bike that ergonomically is not right for racing and in a world where fz1's come with 150hp stock and 165 is easy with tuning and new headers which are a necessity anyway for sound :D.
