Love him or hate him, the Ultimate Warrior was "over with the fans" for most of his short, fragmented, pro wrestling career. Jim Hellwig brought the Ultimate Warrior to life, like no one else could. I have to give him credit for that, in spite of all of his faults. He was a noble savage with a "connection to the cosmos", and he got his audiences very excited.

I met Buff in 2003 when I worked on the ring crew for Coastal Championship Wrestling. He lived his gimmick. Only reason he wasn't rude to me was that I wasn't a fan, I was a worker. That was the last time I saw him. By chance, the main event featured a pre-WWE MVP when he was Antonio Banks. Phi Delta Slam were also on the show, and they were awesome. They were the ones who recruited me for the ring crew.

I don't hear many good things about warrior however I will say that most people felt that his way of functioning was off-putting because I believe he was a MASSIVE introvert. I believe most wrestlers are extremely extroverted so they perceive introverts to be arrogant or negative a-holes when in reality, an introvert genuinely cannot function with a crowd of strangers around constantly. Introverts, much like antisocial personality types thrive in creativity and privacy 🔏. I don't think 🤔 warrior was nearly as bad as people made him out to be. He just wasn't a people person. People like him are usually well received in their tiny circle of family or friends but not trustworthy of nosey outsiders. RIP warrior.

Great comment, brother. Warrior was my friend and mentor, and believe me, he really was a good man and incredibly appreciative of fans. Warrior definitely wasn't the type of person that engaged in small talk and gossip. He liked conversation to be intellectually stimulating and meaningful, and there really weren't that many thinkers in wrestling locker rooms, and so I'm not surprised that he didn't go out of his way to converse with guys like Marcus Bagwell. When Warrior did talk though, he never held back -- our phonecalls always lasted 90+ minutes! He also had strong opinions on most things (which again, probably made some wrestlers take a dislike to him). Definitely miss the big guy.
@Rondondemarco
@Rondondemarco 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThisIsHolyJJ Thanks and Yes I agree with what you wrote regarding him being intelligent and direct. I met him as a very young child and I remember him actually being the nicest wrestler that I had ever seen in person, larger than life, big smile rock star hair and giant muscles signing our autographs. My uncle managed to have some sort of political talk with him and this was roughly '88 so I KNOW and always knew for an absolute FACT that the WWE did an evil smear campaign and defamation of character to warrior once he defeated them in more ways than one on personal business perspectives. In other words I knew that the guy that my uncle and I met was very intense and intelligent even wayyyy back then. At 12 I knew how to spot Bs from realness. The guy I met was legit, intellectually savvy and real, not some goof troop railing on about *destrucity* and hateful rants. Keep in mind I'm African American and so was my uncle. Warrior did not behave in an off-putting racist vibe with us. Not even a little, whereas certain wrestlers did, and I'm not going to say their names but let's just say ironically they were actually the ones with the squeaky clean images back 🔙 in the day. Even if it's not raw racism, it's racial discomfort I would say many quietly possessed backstage when we walked through to meet and greet certain stars. So I get offended when I hear people aka sheeple 🐑 of the wrestling industry act like warrior was this monstrous bigot who could barely speak 🗣️ English while being in la la land. I simply knew that wasn't true. I also never believed that he would mistreat fans because he didn't mistreat me, he actually signed merch and flexed 💪 his arms, giant veins, tassles and all with me for pics as a youth. So none of the smear campaign added up to me. It's just disgusting how guys portray him on those defamation documentaries that came out back in the day as well as the KZbin interviews of fake guys in the business like Jim Ross, flair and Jim cornette and also brother love. They all acted as if Jim was the second incarnation of Hitler. People don't just go from two extremes like that. Going from nice to young children and families to disrespecting fans and mysteriously becoming bigots etc. He was just anti BS and male drama like Marty janetti once stated.

I don't know why I remember this, but I'm pretty sure I accidentally saw a cheesy movie late one night with Buff Bagwell where he played a bad guy...I think he had a wrestling ring in his house, and he would kill people in it by wrestling them to death. That's literally all I remember about the movie. Wait...maybe it was a show. Maybe it was at like 6am when TNT would show several episodes every weekday morning of that show with the 3 chicks who were witches. Maybe that's what I'm thinking of... LOL I looked him up on IMDB...turns out I was right about both...He was in Day of the Warrior, which is what I was actually thinking of, and then he reprised his role as the Warrior in L.E.T.H.A.L. Ladies: Return to Savage Beach. And he was also in Charmed, playing a demon wrestler...

Actually, what he said is that Jim (Warrior) was the quiet type and preferred to be alone, and that was opposite of Buff's personality, which is why they never really spoke or got along. I understand Buff's personality of wanting to know and talk to everyone, but it's kind of rude to say, "I didn't like that guy," or, "He acted like a star," simply because the guy had a different personality, or to say that Hogan was the better man because Hogan has a similar personality. I mean, there are people who can talk a bunch of trash about Hogan, especially when it comes to his forceful politicking behind the scenes. Warrior wasn't like that.

I think he meant like Warrior snubbed him at WCW after even knowing him from personal life back in those days. I'm a huge Warrior fanatic and lots of people said the same about Warrior and his anti-social behavior. Like Chris Masters said he met him when he made his comeback match against Orlando Jordan and told him what a huge Warrior fan he was. Then the day of his match he just came in the locker room, didn't say hi to ANYONE, wrestled his match and left. Warrior was a true lone wolf. Not a pal to fellow wrestlers which is why he gets so dogged. He honestly would've been more popular with the boys if he shit in peoples gymbags and rallied to get people fired. If he acted the same to everyone, why would so many take it personally?

@@mattharper1242 he claims credit for everything that ever happened while he was around unless it didn't work out, then he will say" I told them not to do that". He says Rick flair sucked. Lol and acts like he was better. He says he did not want to be the world champion or he would have been. C'mon man. Out of the 4 he's the only one I respect but he still goes on the wall with them.

Told Vader not to do it again. Vader never did it again. Goldberg says he made him look like a punk. He did nothing about it. Took liberties with Hall in front of Nash and Show. Flattened out Hammer with one punch. Choked out Sid in the back. Sid wanted Regal to teach him, but Regal did not want to create a 7 footer that could choke out the rest of the roster. He's about as legit as it gets. Probably only second to Rude.
