It really gets me that people STILL call preppers “crazy”, but preppers don’t have to panic when stuff like this happens. They’re sitting in a warm house by a wood stove with enough firewood for the whole winter and enough food to outlast 10 blizzards or more while everyone else is eating stale cracker crumbs and the last scrapings of peanut butter out of the jar. It’s so foolish to spend $10 a day getting a coffee and pastry from Starbucks when that money could go toward stocking up a pantry full of food and a backup heat supply for when the power goes out.

You know, if you have apple sauce at home, you can put it in your pancake mix and it will work just as good as eggs! Look it up on You Tube, the many uses of apple sauce. If your diabetic, get no sugar apple sauce. Problem is the stores near you are empty (not just from mad shopping) but 4 days ago, at risking their own lives the looters hit. Life (their own) mean nothing to them. Food will come, but it's a wait. You can't expect over night delivery anymore! I really appreciated the lady with one of her kids, say that she was also shopping for her neighbor's too. I remember doing that when in my neck of the woods, we got 3 ft of snow, and streets and roads look like Buffalo's. I used a long sled, stopped at a store and got gallons of milk, 2 % milk, breads of various kinds (not all people eat white bread) cat liter, cat food, dog food, dollar store items like baby aspirin, bandages, babies diapers of various sizes. I had to make 3 trips down one street. I also had a young kid with me who wanted to make a few bucks to shovel snow. I didn't want him to shovel out the cars, cause they were really deep in drifts of snow (6 ft high) so he shovels walk ways or paths at the places I stopped to bring food too.

I live in Minnesota. We dont see storms like Western NY. We usually get dry powdery snow. I mean for crying out loud the record snowstorm for the Twin Cities is still the Halloween storm of '91 and that was under 30 inches. They got like 50" in this storm which is as much as Minneapolis gets in a whole season on average

@@eagle25311 real mature. You must be one and have a huge ego. Tell that to all the people who lost their jobs during the pandemic shutdown. When you go to a restaurant who brings your food to your table? When you go bowling who keeps the machines running so you can enjoy yourself? When you go out for a drink who takes care of your order? When you go out to the movies, who sells you the popcorn? Who produces and manufactures everything we rely on everyday? Most Manufacturing was considered "essential" who drives the trucks to get those supplies to the stores or to your house? Who helps you with the purchase of a vehicle at a dealership? Every job contributes something to society, whether "essential" or not. Manufacturing was considered "essential" to keep products on our shelves. But they didn't get any recognition. People were working 60-80 hours a week to keep pumping out the products we needed. Why so many hours? Because their coworkers were sick and some died. We rely on people and their jobs, their skills, for our everyday lives. The career someone chooses doesn't define what's essential. Everyone who continued working throughout the pandemic helped keep us going. Being a police officer, or other first responder, or nurse or doctor, are admirable careers. No doubt about that. But those people chose those careers. Just like people in manufacturing, or grocery stores, or restaurants, or entertainment venues or any other position. Those people chose those careers. People's lives were upended, whether "essential" or not, and nobody cared about the sacrifices made by them. You know what a hero is? A hero is ALL the people who got up every morning and went to work during the pandemic to contribute something to society and make this world a better and happier place to live, regardless of the situation and the risks involved. And a hero is someone who lost their job, through no fault of their own, and had to make sacrifices for themselves and their families. A hero is someone who, despite losing their job and receiving extra government financial unemployment benefits, decided to return to work when their business reopened. A hero is all those people in some other countries who had to endure severe lockdowns with severe consequences if violated. Get off your high horse you arrogant jerk and realize that EVERYONE is essential.

If everyone would buy an extra $10.00 or $20.00 worth of grocery's when they shop, they wouldn't be running out or low on grocery's during an emergency. I used to work at walmart paycheck to paycheck and when I saw a sale, I would buy a case or at least a couple of cans or box's even if people bought $5.00 worth each time, they shopped it would add up and help in an emergency.

Why do New Yorkers always get bread, eggs, and milk when a storm is coming. Is everyone eating French toast? They/we should get non parish able items. You can lose power during a storm, and below freezing is not good for eggs or milk. Anyone know why?
@diannt95832 жыл бұрын
You can actually freeze milk and it is still good. If you crack and scramble the eggs raw, you can freeze them too, thaw and cook. I have absolutely NO idea why people buy bread when a storm is coming - I buy bread about three times a year. As for milk - I don't buy that often either, but it can be necessary for small children if you have some in your home. (I have backyard chickens, so I do get my eggs from the source, but they don't lay much in winter here.)

So good to see everyone positive and working together! Most people are looking for eggs and milk. Those things are hard to store long-term. I think most people, at least those that I know and have been to their house, have a pretty good stock of canned goods and items that have a long shelf life but bread, milk and eggs don't last that long so you can't really stock up on it. The closest thing you could probably do is get condensed milk.

@@ashlipope5079 Those are helpful alternatives! I honestly had no idea or hadn't even heard of powered butter or water glass eggs before. (I usually just freeze my butter.) Although, I think for unwashed eggs you'd need to live near a farm or have a farmers market nearby.

To help in further situations, look up long-term storage food for emergencies in case your normal food runs out or un proper able MREs are good to sustain you for 21 days before needing something else But bulk food like rice and beans are good too and dry meat if you're in the cold, carbohydrate heavy food in hot climates but make shore men get at less 2500 calories, women 2000 calories and kids 15yo or younger 1500 to 1700 this will make shore eveyone have energy to live and if worse comes remember if you can't find food make shore you have a gallon of water and some salt you can live for 20 to 30 days without food you will feel sick or fatigue for the fist few days but push throw wind you do eat again don't overeat perfectly soup
