Some people might hate on CharlieBo313 for kinda glorifying, or a the least exploiting people's crappy situations but living in these areas all my life I see some good in just recording deep, African American hoods. Even living in Detroit/Flint, Michigan city limits most my life, it isn't uncommon for white folks to never come around the blacks side of town and vice versa. To the point that just driving through on major roads is dangerous, and makes you stick out like a sore thumb. Either you are driving through to stare at the hood or you are coming for drugs. Charlie gives curious teens a way to stare without being in danger.
@tinicum547 жыл бұрын
Good point, although unsaid are the people who, due to the jobs they have, MUST go into these hoods. 30 years of it in Chester and Philly. Charlie does it voluntarily, I am white, I had to so i keep my job. Mailmen, utility workers, teachers, nursing care, etc. I showed up at a job in south philly where there was still blood splattered over the whole staircase. Machete attack. The clients 5 year old daughter was traumatized. 1997, I could go on and on but I will not. He was there to steal the "BIG SCREEN TV"

Buffalo is Malibu compared to Milwaukee but you're right they do look very similar with styles of houses. They were both affluent areas of upper middle class up until the 60s-70s when the national economy changed both respective city's landscape and these areas became dangerous hoods. Charlie needs to do Sherman Park Milwaukee where all those riots were last year. It's a top 5 bad neighborhood nation wide
@teachmehowtobucky237 жыл бұрын
Slotten Sherman park is straight hood but it really doesn't look terrible. It's an example of a once wealthy neighborhood that fell apart in the 70s. If Charlie ever comes to Milwaukee I hope he goes down Atkinson, fond u lac, burleigh, locust, center, keefe, 27th, 35th, etc.
@Slotten687 жыл бұрын
teachmehowtobucky23 Fond du Lac Ave, Burleigh and Capitol kind of outline the bad parts. Occasionally I'll take a short cut off the highway by taking fond du Lac Ave and if I'm feeling really ballsy I'll stop at the Checkers. Definitely wouldn't leave the car for any reason

But your videos provide such a raw and unedited view into situations I only hear about but haven't had the chance to see until now. Buffalo has some of the greatest public assistance programs in the nation. There are many homeless shelters, detox buildings, Salvation Armys, and Boys and Girls Clubs. As a white guy from Depew (10 minutes away) I've driven through a few of these areas plenty of times, never had any issues or any more "danger" than I have had anywhere else. Remember that just because people are broke doesn't mean they're bad people.. I remember one time I had my Go-Pro on the roof of my car, and a random black dude started walking towards me.. My heart stopped, was he going to snag my go-pro and take off?! Nope, just wanted to bum a smoke off me since he saw me smokin' and said thank you a million times over when I threw him 3. As long as you don't go around throwing the N-word around, you're usually not gunna get too many problems, at least in my experience.

Ignorance is bullet proof and psychological state acting as an impenatrable cloud that some people live in. The now "hoods"had been flourishing, industrious prized areas where men like my father worked hard to give his children fine living and privilege; also, spiritual identity of church and education. Our neighborhoods reflected that time of glory when NEVER during working hours would you see a MAN. The "little woman" my mother, was at home cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner taking pride in the family home. What else? Writing out the diary order for the milkman (eggs, orange juice, butter and cottage cheese). Halls bakery delivered, dry cleaning was picked up and delivered. My brothers belonged to the "Y" took part in lawful youth groups church based and wore custom made clothing. I had daddy's credit card, my own seamstress if I wanted a channel inspired suit, dance lessons and sorority membership. For goodness sake I was in that group of women who went to "finishing" school. Also after university undergrad, my peers and I completed graduate school. We moved out of BUFFALO away from short sighted lack of progress to places where super high paying jobs were common. That tier sadly passed away, my parents but they paved the way for me, and my family to have a moneyed, privileged and fruitful life. The inheritors of the tree-lined beautiful neighborhoods were different types of Black people with voucher/gifts from the federal government for everything. NEEDLESS to say that group-no father in the home were the Blacks who lived extremely different from my Black family. Outrageously sad. Charlie 313 documents little and amazingly has zero context. Is there a plan to change this continual swirl into the darkness of deprivation and ignorance or will we keep using these conditions as our personal carnivals and freak shows to make ourselves feel "good."

Places I have never seen before but heard of in the past. As a kid a grew up in the hood but it was nothing like the TODAYS HOOD. Back in the late 70s every house on the block had a father who was a roofer, painter, brick mason, plumber, framer and so on but I remember it clearly. On our block we had 16 families. 4 were white but just about all the fathers played cards together on Saturday night sometimes until 12ocl pm Sunday while us kids spent the night with each other. MY POINT here is race was not an issue IN OUR LIVES back then like it is today and it fucking sux.
