If you can, take in a show at Mike Shea's Buffalo Theatre, opened in January 1926. The show doesn't matter as much as the eye candy that that theatre's Tiffany Studios interior is . If you are REALLY lucky, you may get to hear the original 4 manual 28 rank Style 285 WURLITZER organ, built in 1925 for installation in the theatre. It is magnificent when played well .

Not wanting to sound rude but genuinely curious, is there any way to clean/restore that city hall building? It's such a cool looking building, but every time I see it in fly-by's (usually on nationally televised football games), it looks a bit beat up/dirty/weathered down. I know it's very old, but it's such a beautiful & unique piece of architecture, it should really be treated like the beauty it is. I'm from Texas, so feel free to put me in my place if I'm ignorant to something (like perhaps there's no way of restoring it or making it look more clean).

How about when the hurricane wipes the grocery store and your house off the map? During this past blizzard in Buffalo, I was whipping around town in my Jeep checking on people, grabbed a couple slices of pizza and had a refreshing beer while sitting on the bumper. Sure beats having my home wiped off the map by mudslides, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires, etc.

Most cities in America have declined. I was in St. Louis and it’s basically a ghost town. America doesn’t have the population density like Europe and Asia so I wouldn’t expect them to be packed with busy streets and vibrant shops. I have lots of friends that come to visit us in Western New York and not one of them has any interest at all in architecture, cemeteries, botanical gardens or parks. They come for the concerts at Darien and the amusement park at Darien. They come for the casinos and to look at the big ole hole with the water and gravity, and they are sternly warned to stay east of the I-90, North of the I-290 and South of Lake Ave in Lackawanna. Every city of any size has a few attractions: old buildings, maybe a river or a lake . . . whatever. Buffalo is simply an old city founded on heavy industry (which is long gone) and the port (which is nowhere near as important as it once was long ago). I lived in Buffalo for a few years and it's godawful depressing. Mostly it's old, run-down ghetto neighborhoods notable mostly for poverty and crime. It's got some huge cemeteries full of people who died just to get away from Buffalo. Considering the size of Buffalo, there really is nothing there worth a visit. Not long ago I was scheduled to return to Buffalo to do due diligence on a business opportunity there for a client. I canceled both the visit and the project and moved the whole thing out of New York.
