Hey Rob, I just found my first ever 1930s Jefferson nickel with a mint mark! A 1938-S in a customer wrapped roll! And I found it just a couple days after you posted your nickel hunt finding 2 1938-S Jefferson nickels! Maybe I'll find a proof nickel next!

I can no longer purchase fed wrapped nickle boxes short of paying a $3 premium. So now just customer wrapped. Got $152 in customer wrapped 2 days ago...the very first coin, an S mint reverse... 1946. Then later on a roll with 20 1968D all BU and 20 1968S all BU... I get those BU rolls once in a while. 2 years ago I scored 144 rolls all BU... from 59 to 89. Almost 6,000 BU Jeffersons in one score.

Hate to break it to you, but if you got the rolls at a bank, they’re circulated NOT BU. BU means brilliant UNCIRCULATED. If you found these coins in a roll from the bank, they’re circulated. Maybe lightly circulated, but still CIRCULATED

Proofs were made in Philadelphia prior to 1968

Only from 1968 on were proofs minted in SF.

San Francisco did not start making proofs until 1968. Denver handled all the proofs from 1964 and earlier. Special strikes (not proofs) minted from 1965-1967 (no mint marks).
