Buffett on the Berkshire "Compounding Machine"

Berkshire Hathaway Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett speaks at the 2019 Berkshire Hathaway Annual Shareholders Meeting in Omaha, Nebraska. Buffett says compounding is one of the safest ways to make money over time and that preserving Berkshire's legacy as a "compunding machine" is his primary motivation for waking up in the morning.

The compounding thing is so true. I started investing around 30 years of age. I'm now 61. In that time I increased my net worth from 0 to about a million just working in a very basic job and putting away a bit each month. And if anyone asked me how, I'd honestly have to say I'm not sure, it sort of just happened that way. I didn't have any great investment ideas.. It really was just a slow and steady process of compounding.

The reason many people venture into Trading/ Investing (Financial Market), is so that they can get to have a better life, while working and even after retirement. Institutional investors hold a majority ownership of Berkshire Hathaway through the 68.34% of the outstanding shares that they control. This interest is also higher than at almost any other company in the Multi-Line Insurance industry. So Buffet's statement at the end regarding a majority owned by "the people" instead of institutions, he is misleading the people.
