Bufflehead Courtship Displays Bay City State Park Lagoon

The range map shows that these little divers are only passing through on their way north, but they are pretty faithful stayovers this time of year. They had been quietly swimming around in pairs until they all converged in a quiet corner of the lagoon - when there must have been enough of them to trigger the social behavior that kept us glued to our camera viewfinders.
