In testing that Oxide did on helmet materials, he found that PE was better suited for spitzer bullets, but degraded faster across multiple hits. Meanwhile, Aramid helmets are more reliable against multiple pistol cal impacts. Iirc, his conclusion was that PE helmets were slightly better suited to Mil use, while Aramid is better suited to LE use, where handguns are more common

I think they need to add a layer of cured carbon fiber about 2/3 deep. This would mitigate deformation and potentially help with preventing delimitation. Some Non-Newtonian fluidic foam would also help just before the final foam layer.

Looks like an improvement over the the older imported helmets. Seems like the need to sinter the UMWPE or use a strong epoxy to keep the layers together more.

I wanna say Boot Actual took one of their ATE helmets and shot M855A1 at the helmet at an angle (for a realistic scenario) and it ate the A1 round. Would like to hear your thoughts. Seems like a lot of people in the gear community hate on this brand for the simple “pressed in China” issue.

I get steel is very heavy, but I figure hardened steel helmets would be the way to go with how small and cut-away helmets are getting anyway. Just UHMWPE liner for some deformation tolerance and a hardened steel shell on top if it's just going to be pistol rounds as a concern anyway imo Pistol rounds deflecting or breaking apart seems preferable to the deformation capture model of bullet-resistant. The skull isn't as forgiving to getting deep crush impacts the same way a torso can cushion hits

Once you get beyond 3lbs expect permanent damage to your c-spine.
@KeterMalkuth2 ай бұрын
The issue is several fold. Firstly, even modern kevlar helmets are resulting in neck and spine issues over a long career wearing these helmets. The head just isn't meant to handle any kind of heavy load. While the helmet itself might be viable, when you start adding on night vision, earpro, eyepro, sometimes gas masks, battery packs, counter weights, flashlights. . . It just isn't viable. Secondly, materials like PE, as demonstrated by this video, respond relatively well to steel core or other harder penetrators. While not perfect, metals like steel are likely more liable to be penetrated by certain kinds of projectiles than PE. Thirdly, even if we're considering hard armor helmets, there are likely better materials out there. Ceramics, titanium, etc. I suspect comfort may also play a part. I don't know how well steel helmets respond to being worn in extreme heat or cold, but I imagine they'd be a bit worse than kevlar or PE.

mainly just the reseller and manufacturer being upset. At this point it is what it is and I’m sure the retest will tell us if we’re on to something or if it was a result of me dropping them
@Klownin2hardАй бұрын
@BuffRANGE let's be honest, if all it takes is being dropped for those 4sas4 plates to not stop m193 then thats scary. I wouldn't trust them to make it through shipping if thats the case! If highcom doesnt like how their plates performed then maybe they should stop selling plates that havnt been up to nij spec and certified since 2008. Its borderline false advertising for them to even still be sold as nij certified anymore especially with nij 07 about to start being tested. I can only imagine how many people have bought these plates for full price over the years and have had peace of mind about them only to realize that they've essentially been sold china grade gear. Like I said, don't let anything or anyone discourage you from doing what you're doing. You're doing an amazing job and providing the information that we all NEED to see. Your tests are a way better equivalent to real life scenarios then anything that can be produced in a lab. It's their own fault, not yours. When shit like that happens and the veil is lifted, it's always going to piss someone off. But that bitter truth is what we need. You are one of the very few no BS, no shill, review guntubers we have. We need you. And last but not least, i just want to say, when was the last time ukraine didnt accept free aid in this war? Its no wonder they have an over abundance of these plates and are being sold at such a low price. Imagine how many soldiers were killed due to these low grade plates. Its honestly sad, and now highcom, chase, tactical shit, apex, and everyone else will have to reap what they've sown for not doing their own due diligence. You're amazing brotha, i look forward to many more reviews in the future. Keep on keeping on brotha! 👊💪
