Fact: actress Sarah Michelle Gellar was sad practically devastated that Buffy and Angel would not get together being that she was a fan of the characters relationship. I have watched many series, with vampires, zombies, demons etc. and all including a lovestory. But none of them made me cry. Or literally broke my heart... Onlt Buffy and Angel... They were so perfect. No one could have played the role better than Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz. I just wish they would have ended up together. They deserved it :( Angel will be forever my favourite not Spike. He was Buffy's first love, first everything. This is so heartbreaking. Damn. Their acting is mindblowing.

Our breakup was like Buffy and Angel's except we were watching the airport clock for when he would have to go beyond security and we'd probably never see each other again. 1) you're not wrong; it is a bewildering pinnacle of life to love and be loved like that 2) it's a burden when you're not a ball of energy that can roll to success. i'm unmedicated for hypothyroidism (tested low but doctors went 'eh' despite pleas) and it's been 10+ years. to quote a klingon "my deterioration is proceeding apace." it sucks knowing you're now a footnote in someone's life who's go on and lived when you just never could. it's peak existence for a moment. but it carves out part of your love and your pride to be locked away, forever a monument to what was. not what is. /shrug

This episode proves that Angel was truly Buffys soulvamp (see what I did there) not spike - everyone of spikes supporters always brings up the fact that Spike is the one because he chose to have a soul for Buffy - well this episode proves it, Angel chose to relinquish true happiness, humanity and being with Buffy FOR Buffy (and also innocent people btw Spike getting his soul was purely for his own desire for Buffy therefore not selfless but selfish) - Angel chose to become again what he hates- vampire - and have the curse active - meaning he also gave up his ability for true happiness not just that either he never told Buffy .... if he had told her what happened (I’m sure he could have proved it) it may not be same but still she could’ve been impressed or least left on better note but nope he kept it to himself. I won’t hear anymore that Spike truly is the one / besides SMG said Angel was her choice speaking on behalf of Buffy even Whedon said greatest love story he’s ever told

Rewatching Buffy after all these years, as an adult with a lot of life experience under my belt, angel leaving sunnydale and breaking up with buffy made sense. I used to hate Riley, but when Buffy and Riley started getting to know each other it felt good for Buffy. But then they had to throw this episode in right before Riley and Buffy kiss, and I realised that's why Riley was never going to be accepted by fans. Because we knew Buffy and Angel had only just shared this, it's canon for us. We know that Buffy would have chosen Angel a million times over Riley. It wasn't really fair to what could have been a much more healthy relationship for Buffy.
