I think what really made Spike's interactions with Buffy here special, was that he always met her halfway. When she was clearly uncomfortable about her torn-up hands and the memory they represented, he offered her understanding and a painful memory of his own. He doesn't touch her when he leads her into the other room, in case she doesn't want to be touched. He gently lifts her hands to inspect them, doesn't hold them, so she can take her hands away at any moment. He answers her question fully and truthfully, and though he returns the question of "how long," he doesn't pry when he gets a vague answer. And the whole time, his voice is gentle and low, not expecting anything of her, not expecting her to be alright. He'd said he loved her because she treated him like a man, and in return he treats her like a woman. She doesn't have to be the slayer, doesn't have to be Buffy as she was before, doesn't have to be a warrior returning from hell or a victim. She just has to be whoever she is now, and that's enough.

Everyone focuses on Spikes reaction because it's so moving. But Buffy's reaction to seeing Spike is pretty interesting. She sees him and starts to button up her shirt. Not in a 'creepy vamp is ogling me' kind of way, but as if she snaps out of her daze a little. She responds. She begins to function upon seeing him and I think that's why she's so drawn to him that season. She can be a little more honest in his presence and he makes her feel alive.

I was very happy when Spike gets angry at Xander, even though I likes him, even though I choose to forgive him for his pastuff douchiness, but not this time. It was clearly an unfair shoot.
@arthurchallat85305 жыл бұрын
And yeah, in the firsts episodes of Season 6, The "Original" Scoobies (Willow and Xander) acted like stupid selfish persons. Luckily Tara realize that it wasn't a good idea and respect Buffy's personal space, not like Will and Xander after this scene, and Anya..was just Anya, a little (clumsy though) ray of light into a perfectly dark and black night. And I realize that in this season the original gang ( Xander, Buffy and Willow) acted as their worst version of them, making their lovers suffers a lot (Xander left Anya as the altar and ruined her dreams, Buffy played viciously (even though she was deep into depression) with Spike's (dead) heart and Willow ruined her relationship.) How funny, the heroes we learn to love during 5 seasons, became bad persons in the sixth season. Hown bold it was ^^
@arthurchallat85305 жыл бұрын
But what's make this artistic decision even more cooler is that, they didn't act badly without a reason, Buffy was in a deep depression and she wanted to feel something, even though she completely despised this "something", Willow get addicted to magic because she was scared to get back to the Old-Weak-Bullied-Willow and Xander get highly scared of "Adult-Life". That's brilliant. ^^

Remember that: 1. Spike didn't have a soul. 2. Soulless Vampires tend to be serial rapists and mass murderers by nature. 3. Spike chose the torment of having a soul, whereas Angel was cursed with one. 4. Angel without a soul would never have stopped at almost raping Buffy, if it meant her agony. 5. Technically, Buffy has raped Spike at least once. 6. Before the near rape, Buffy set the precedent for their sexual encounters by saying no, saying he was beneath her or disgusting, and then having sex with him anyway. 7. Spike without a soul also didn't see the problem of feeding off of disaster victims until Buffy called him out on it. 8. The soul is equated to having a conscience. 9. All Vampires are human meat-suits with a demon shoved inside with the previous owner's memories as a template for personality and behavior, which is why Angelus is viewed as separate from Angel. 10. Spike stopped when Buffy kicked him, so it can be argued he wasn't completely aware what he was doing, or what it meant until Buffy lashed out with violence. 11. Spike without a soul never repeated the same behaviors that lead to nearly raping Buffy. I honestly think William, if he had the chance to meet Buffy before becoming a Vampire, would have fallen for Buffy completely. Which is why, even without a soul, but with William's memories as a template, he fell for her despite himself (and then the relationship got unhealthy fast because Buffy was depressed and because Spike was a demon at the time). I'm not excusing what happened, what almost happened to Buffy was horrible, and she never deserved any of it. But to hold Spike accountable for it means you also have to hold Angel accountable for everything Angelus did. If you need me to elaborate on any of these, I would be glad too. I'm not trying to start a fight, but I do want to have a discussion on why you brought this up on this video, before the worst of their relationship had even begun, and what your statement is set out to achieve. And to get my personal biases out of the way, I ship Buffy with Angel and Spike and Faith, for different reasons at different times in their lives. If I had to choose one shipping, I would choose Spike and Buffy, but only when he has a soul.

I like thinking about their relationship with their vampire selves. Angel is constantly fighting his vampire urges and absolutely hates Angelus, and the feeling is mutual. Spike's soul is undoubtedly horrified by what he's done as a vampire, but it's easier to see him (eventually) looking at the whole journey and having some measure of respect for the vampire within since Vampire Spike actually wants William around; if they could be in the same room like when Angelus and Faith were in Angel's head, I think they'd have each other's back; or at the very least, Vampire Spike would order William to keep him from taking anything too far.

Actually Spike went through all the pain to get the chip out of his head. Not to get his soul back. The demon tricked him and gave him his soul instead of removing the chip. He told Xander that the reason why Willow didn't tell him was that there was a chance that Buffy could come back wrong and anything that looked like Buffy, even if she was bad, Spike wouldn't let Willow and the others harm her. Nyiko Maswanganyi - He was insane and rambling from being taunted by the first. If you recall the actual trials he went through and getting his soul at the end of season 6, you’d know he had no intention of getting his soul back. After he got the soul and was tortured, then he explained it to himself as he did it all so she would love him.

Flawed argument. Spike is essentially the same person with or without the soul, while Angel and Angelus are pretty much completely different characters from each other. Also Angelus said he loved her. It just wasn't in anyway good, as Angelus was a psycho. Besides, Spike only got his soul after he almost did a horrible thing, in part, as a form of penance. A very Angel thing to do.

Spike is my favorite character in the show. He went from a bad guy to a good guy. To someone who everyone hated to someone that everyone could trust. He went from the one girl he loved ( maybe a little crazily in the beginning) and her hating him, to them both loving each other the way you would want someone to love and treat you in really life. The love, respect and admiration shared between buffy and spike so inspiring. He fought for his soul. He wanted his soul. And he got it. Angel got his as punishment. Angel even with a soul we see him have a dark side to him. And spike I guess as well but he always tries to do his best. The way he looks at buffy I hope to see a man look like that at me one day

@taramaforhaikido72722 жыл бұрын
@@ruthruthie2931 Age has nothing to do with it. It's a matter of expreince. Angel is an idiot that is ignorant and operates on good intentions and moral high grounds. Not knowing he does more harm then good. Then he stops caring when it gets too much for him. Spike never had that delusion. He's never pretended he's a better person. He's not being self rightious. When he's angry, he's angry. When he cares, he cares. It's not an "obligation" with him. He ACTUALLY cares about you. When he does. With Angel it's different. He treats it more as an obligation. But in the end it's for his own ego. To ease his own guilt. Afraid as he is of the darker side of things. Angel could be 100000 years old and still be that same idiot. Spike bounced back as soon as he turned into a vampire. Angel's been slow at adapting. People only related to him because of their own weaknesses and flaws. Spike on the other hand is better at bouncing back and adapting. He's stronger. Not going to just give up. He won't back down when it counts. That's someone you can rely one. Someone people will fear when they take things at face value.

Spike was the only one of that whole damn crew that focused on making her well. When the rest of them busted in and shrouded her in questions and excitement, it killed me. Spike focused on her. Spike was there with her at her worst, this is why the guy will always trump Angel in the debate.

Spike was the best most well written character in the series. His violent nature and bad boy persona as a vampire was due to feelings of inadequacy weakness as a human. To me, the confrontation with Buffy at the old church in season 7 sounded like he has always been struggling internally with who and what he is. As if his human and vampire natures was trying to gain dominance over the other. Angelus, Drucilla and Darla were never like this...so Spike was some how a special case. I don't read the books so maybe it explains it further there.
