For sure the episode where they switched bodies really I think made them both understand each other way better, in such a profound way that I don’t think it was even talked about or discussed that much. To me it seemed like Faith often hated herself, she wanted to be herself but she was also wanting to be loved and accepted by Buffy etc. she acted out always compared to her. She was a badass did things her own way, was fun etc. more of a rebel than Buffy early on. But she was also deeply messed up. Her and Buffy did fins common ground I think on a few levels. The burden they shared of the world with slaying etc. It was just awful and sad for Buffy when she was in Faith’s body, at that time Faith had done some awful truly bad stuff to her. So must have been crazy and I guess traumatic for her both of them really when they swapped. But when they swapped back. Faith was Faith again and Buffy was Buffy. I knew that everything was no longer the same as it had been prior. Maybe on a surface level or maybe on a deeper one. I just know as a viewer it was scary and a lot. Buffy and Faith were always one of the most interesting duo, interactions throughout Buffy. So many layers, so much to unpack from all of it. I really did and do like and enjoy the times when they got along, fought together, took down evil and just when they were dancing together, having teenage fun in between slayer gigs. Something special and unique about Faith and Buffy. Like they were two sides of the same coin. Slayer, Buffy would be heads, Faith is tails. Buffy was go to choice for people, heads. Faith was seen as other, underdog, unlikely to be the best but yh. Like the way people viewed them and how they acted in all seasons. Buffy was seen as the good slayer and Faith was seen as the one who was a problem or started doing it wrong or too far. Buffy was better, Faith was tougher. Buffy was brave but so was Faith. Buffy was Love Faith was Hate. Buffy was trying to be happy and find normalcy outside of Slaying Faith all she had it seemed was the slaying, fun n rebel normal stuff, Faith didn’t seem to have the deep bonds, close family, friends like Buffy was lucky she had. This isn’t a judgement on either of them. I love both the characters. Just what I think or have noticed. Anyways It seemed to me, really. That whatever Buffy didn’t have and lacked, Faith had bucket loads of it, like strong sex appeal, hardcore confidence, a not caring attitude in a good way. when we first meet Faith she seems cool, fun, even feel like she’s the shiny new interesting Slayer. And felt like Buffy was a bit jealous of the stuff Faith did that Buffy just like didn’t because they were so close on some levels and miles apart in others. And Faith eases to town, coming into Buffy’s circle. At that start of that She I don think was trying to impress, she was simply being herself. Seems like she was just effortlessly cooler, fun more like bad boy vibe compared to Buffy. I digress. What Buffy didn’t have, in her being, in her personality. Faith had it all, all of that. Whatever Buffy had, her essence and soul, caring etc so much compassion and other stuff, Faith seemed to lack there and struggles with wanting to be good or be like or more like Buffy in that way. They weren’t wired the same But both wanted to be connected to the other at first I may have gone into too much detail here Sorry for my mini ted talk on Buffy x Faith Scratch that I’m not sorry But yeah A little part of me wished we go to see more of just Faith and Buffy in that last season on Buffy. Or that there was one more season or episode, where we see how Buffy and Faith handle stuff, together or apart, now they aren’t the only ones who are slayers. P.S. I recently learnt / became aware that Faith’s catchphrase 5 x 5 ( 5 by 5 ) Has another layer to it. Eliza Dusku is actually 5’5” So her saying Five by Five Is even more funny, has a whole other layer to that line.
