This two-parter was actually intended as one episode until the writers realized there was more story than that to tell. Great reaction to the cliffhanger.

Most younger audience members miss this, but the episode titles “What’s My Line?” are a reference to a popular game show that aired from the 1950s into the 1970s. The game consisted of four panelists trying to guess the occupation of a challenger by asking yes/no questions. In those days, you would ask someone, “What line of work are you in?” or “What’s your line?” Hence, the name of the game show and the Buffy episode about them deciding on their future occupation.
