The one thing, for me, in this episode, that never made sense was Cordelia saying she knew Giles was talking about a homicide. In-universe I think the best excuse is she listened at the library doors. Writing-wise I think the scene was re-written and the writers forgot she no longer knew that information with the final draft.

This episode gets a little bit of a mixed reaction from fans - there are some weak spots in the structure of the episode and some things don't make an enormous amount of sense, but there's a lot to love. Some Giles back-story, and TakeCharge!Willow always makes me happy.
