In DVD commentary, writer Marti Noxon (her first ep of Buffy) laughs at how her script said "Kendra BOLTS THE STURDY METAL GATE", but the sets/props dept. provided that pathetic "bicycle lock" -- like Angel is suddenly so weak he can't bust that open!

What's my line was an old American Game show where a panel had to guess what people did for a living. That's were the name of the episode comes from. Bianca Lawson who plays Kendra is now Beyonce's step sister.

"What's My Line?" was a game show from 1950-1967. The panel tries to guess the contestant's line (slang for job/occupation). Kendra's line is Vampire Slayer.

I have to say in Bianca Lawson's defense (Kendra), her accent was a last moment decision from the writers, so she did everything she could. Did you know she was supposed to play Buffy before they found Sarah Michelle Gellar?

Yeah! Sarah auditioned for Cordelia, but she was so good they asked her to play the main character :) And Charisma Carpenter (who auditioned for Buffy) got asked to come back and play Cordy. Interesting, right?

Well, I heard one of the producers talking about it, but it could be that I remember it wrong. They said Sarah wasn't at all the Buffy they had in mind at the beginning, but they liked the change. They wanted a dark Buffy to make contrast with the blond Cordelia (Sarah), but instead they made Charismas's hair darker for the contrast

I dont know if its canon, but the slayer before buffy is named india cohen. She appears in two of the buffy novels- tales of the slayer vol 2 and the book of the fours. Her dad was in the military and met her mom who was Filipino. She fell in love with her watcher.

Actually she's a good actress imo. The accent thing wasn't her fault. They decided last minute to give her an accent so she didn't have time to work on it so that shouldn't be on her. But Bianca is a pretty good actress and has various types of roles for over 20 years (granted most of them were teens since she doesn't age much)...

Well, part of me has always thought that maybe Joss Whedon liked her accent because it lent itself to the campiness of the show. And I'll admit she DOES get better lol...shhhh no spoilers!

I always figured they wanted to give her an accent to give the idea that Slayers aren't just American. It's global thing. Just like them giving Spike an English accent (which they wanted to give him a Texan cowboy accent at first). It was negligent on their part with Kendra because it was a last minute decision. But like I said though, as an actresses, who's still acting to this day (finally adult roles lol), she's actually a pretty good actress overall. I even think her Kendra was good, considering the character herself consist and what what she had to work with...
