Willow calling Parker out and Buffy hitting him on the head are the best parts of the episode.

Yep! I like her funny fantasy in the beginning...when she goes back and he has flowers, ice cream, and his shirt open lol.

@ BtVS wasn't a show that won many awards (sadly; 29 wins in 134 nominations); one of the nominations was for the hairstyling of this episode. I always found that funny considering Buffy's hair was what I find funniest outside of Parker getting what he deserves.

I actually really enjoy this episode quite a lot and think it's unfairly underrated by a lot of fans. Glad you had a good time with it!

So glad you enjoyed it! This is a hilarious, unfairly maligned episode. I also love Willow calling Parker out. Cave Buffy is so funny.

They had me fooled a little...I thought (stupidly) that Willow might fall for that BS.

I love the end scene when Buffy knocks out Parker. In particular, I love the gang looking down at Parker, and then walking away without a word.

Lol...yea that's hilarious. I'm interested to see how Parker thinks after this lol.

Buffy getting drunk with a young pre-Harold and Kumar Kal Penn. I hate the singer, but I actually know the bassist, Carla Betz. She's in a friend's band.

I have a theory that an enjoyment of that episode is proportional to how much you agree with the title. So, I do like it a lot. I'm not sure what is more attractive: Buffy's cave face here, of her vampire face from S1 Nightmares. This episode was created in an attempt to secure some government funding, for an anti-alcohol campaign. They failed, since what was bad in this episode was magic, not beer itself.

I heard that! So funny. Yeah it's not really a good anti-drinking episode lol.

Whatever is going on with Oz and the strange way he seems to keep noticing this Veruca girl (and it IS the same girl he noticed before)... he's trying to keep Willow involved in his life. He invited her to the show. He's clearly not trying to be secretive or shut her out, but she's obviously feeling a little jealous and threatened and pulling away. If I were her, I'd be like, "I am ABSOLUTELY going to this show" LOL Withdrawing from him isn't gonna help anything. :-/ Parker's gaslighting here is very believable. He ALMOST has a point. Yeah, guys and girls both can enjoy casual sex. But he deliberately made Buffy feel like they had a deeper connection than that. It's okay for it to not mean anything more than fun - but only if BOTH people involved KNOW that. He never said anything to that effect. In fact, he made a point of making her feel like she was special to him and they'd connected in a way he usually doesn't with anyone. And then he did the same thing with Willow. LOL I LOVE Willow calling him out on his BS.

That's a very good description of Parker's game. Exactly...he isn't being fair in his description since he is basically "tricking" women into sleeping with him...by being generally dishonest. I've gathered that about this episode but I don't see how you can infer a real anti-drinking message from it lol....it's a little silly. I love caveperson Buffy....she's hilarious.

Grey Matter is in Night Shift. The Bachman Books was a collection of the novels/novellas written as Richard Bachman: Rage, The Long Walk, Roadwork, and The Running Man. Rage is no longer available as it involved a school shooting and King has deleted it from his catalog.

One of the things I like about this episode is Cave-Buffy's reaction to Xander's scent. Vast majority of humans have a libido. DNA evidence shows that early men weren't forcing themselves on every woman/adolescent girl whenever they had a chance to. Unlike the earlier assumption that SA was typical & part of human evolution, what we know now suggests that sexual contact between early humans was, by in large, consensual. This contrasts with the Cave-Dudes behavior with the two ladies they abducted. That, however, seems to have more to do with comedic relief after the Will/Parker talk. I understand Will's "ugh, men" mentality at this point. Between Parker's treatment of Buffy (ladies in general, really) & Oz's wandering eye, she's a little touchy on the subject. I'm not so sure it's "all about the sex" for Parker. He's a good looking guy & enough of the ladies seem to find him charming, so he could probably have plenty of casual sex by being honest about what he wants. This is college, after all. Parker seems to enjoy "the game". He gets off on "getting one over" on the ladies that he pursues. Them wanting to continue a relationship with him after he's used them only serves to boost his ego. He obviously knows what he's doing & doesn't care about anyone else's feelings. I agree that Oz hasn't done anything wrong. He simply *noticed* Veruca. Unfortunately, Willow still has some self-confidence issues. ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

That's exactly true about Parker. His words are not matching his actions or he would be more honest and conniving in the way he goes about ...it.

There are 144 episodes of BTVS, they can't all be brilliant. I think this is possibly the worse episode of BTVS ever, up there with Go Fish, Bad Eggs and couple more from this Season, (and a few episodes from S6 and S7 don't want to mention names cos of spoilers). Though very last bit when Parker gets hit over the head again with the club was very funny. There were so many fantastic episodes of this show over the seven series, but this really isn't one of them, some fans say on re-watch it's better, I don't agree, it was a real filler of an episode thankfully lost in one the the greatest TV shows of all time. S4 has a good few filler episodes of which this was the worst. This is actually the lowest ranked episode on IMDB of all 144 episodes. Don't @ me take it up with IMDB.

Sorry, but I can't bring myself to watch this review. In my opinion it was the worst episode ever made. It was made during the DARE days push and shows were given huge tax breaks if they made some kind of anti-drug episode. The network wanted the money, but the writers couldn't take it seriously and this was the result. I am interested on your take as usual, but I just can't take watching the clips and being reminded of this nightmare.

Lol...I've picked up that you're not the only one who feels this way. Personally, I find it hard to see any real anti-drinking message in there at all....which I guess is why they didn't get the money as I've heard. It turned out to not be like this at all, but just the title alone reminded me of "Grey Matter" an old stephen king short story about bad beer turning some guy into a sort of monster.
