“To forgive is an act of compassion; it’s not done because people deserve it, it’s done because they need it”. I always remembered this and thought it was a really good point about virtue.

@Clay Dakota : What is it with you constantly promoting Flixzone? Do you own shares in that company or something?

Until you get older and learn not everyone or everything deserves forgiveness. Buffy had a point too. Of course, we should practice forgiveness, but some things truly arent deserving of it and that's on the wrongdoer.

@JPierce I think Gyles said it wrong it not the wrong doer that needs the forgiveness it's the victim that needs to forgive ... you don't forgive to absolve the person ..not to make it ok...you forgive so that you the person that been done wrong can heal and move forward. It's like quote says hold a grudge is like stabbing yourself and hoping the other person bleeds ..

This was always one of my favourite moments from Giles. This is one of those times when he's a real father figure to Buffy; teaching her an important lesson, but with a very gentle touch. He doesn't hammer it home or insist that she agree with him... just tells her the truth and leaves her to absorb and reflect on it by herself.

One of the best and most overlooked scenes from Buffy. I love Buffy's speech about James. Great character interactions.

I love Giles's speech about forgiveness. It is so true. If forgiveness were reserved only for those of us who deserve it, then none of us would receive it.

This is one of my favourite episodes. I don't see it on a lot of Top 10s, but it's on mine. Giles's line here on what forgiveness is stuck with me after all these years, and it's part of how I view life now. We don't forgive because people deserve it, we do it because they need us to. If you keep withholding it and remaining angry, how can anyone heal?
@IndomitableT6 жыл бұрын
MoonShadowWolfe. Agreed on this view of the concept of forgiveness. Another perspective that usually is (even more?) necessary, is to forgive oneself. That is more often than not even harder and more necessary to heal. This holds especially when one cannot or will not get forgiveness from the other person(s) involved. Ideally and preferably both happen and one actually heals ☯️

MoonShadowWolfe I too cannot believe it’s not in top 10. I know there are a lot of great episodes but the possession scene alone with Buffy and Angel reenacting the lover’s quarrel... so brilliantly done and it was like... the one breathe of fresh air we get in the middle of drowning in the Angelus misery of season 2 😂

You should tell that to my family. They hold my mistakes over my head and will never forgive me. I'm always going to be judged by my past. I agree completely. Noone can heal or move forward if all they get is anger and resentment.

This is one of the most underrated scenes, coincidentally in one of the more underrated episodes, of the series. It contains one of my most favorite dramatic moments (Giles' line), buttoned with one of my favorite comedic moments (Cordelia's line). Even *I* forget how awesome it is.

The same is true of giving anyone any kind of help. You aren't required by anyone else to be compassionate, but if you help someone it should be because you see they have a need for it and not really any other reason.

When Buffy thinks of when James acted on his own was true, but about when comes to also about with Angel is actually a different story doesnt know about and had complicated dark time then doesn’t know the story from 2 1/2 centuries in the past of when, how and why and the gang mostly Xander has got the wrong idea of when like Angel acted on himself which he did not, but the syndrome multiple disorder had then is an unexplained mystery that’s gone out of control filled of darkness after was badly treated then when demon took over soulless is what caused him doing those horrific unpleasant things as evil Angelus

I’ve always loved this episode, considering it seems Buffy blamed herself or thought she was to blame with what happened between her and Angel! I just ordered the complete box set. Can’t wait to do a massive rewatch, always loved the first 3 seasons! Especially season 2!

It is something he's just gonna have to get over in time thats why I warn about blind passion and rage to be careful with it I do know what's possible that's why faith test all of Buffy's potential love interests because she's seen so much not just source assassin's sent after her and her other girls but knowing he killed everyone they loved friends and family first and then went after them last in times before

Buffy should talk about blinding passions how james leave with it himself she almost did the same thing over angel knew the fact he is a vampire doesnt t make a difference he got a soul chance the fact vampire is still part of him I know she save the school what about she almost did in the end was selfish
@dadriamcgregor8346 Жыл бұрын
Ummm she was self reflecting... she was in fact referring to her and Angel . She was saying that James didn't deserve forgiveness because she felt she didn't deserve forgiveness for sleeping with Angel and him losing his soul.which she was wrong Angel losing his soul was gonna happen anyway cause it was the love and emotional connection that gave him the moment of happiness not the sex so even if they just went to sleep woulda been the same out come
