Join me as I bushwhack and wade through a Florida swamp and give you a tour of my Bug Out swamp house. See what the swamp revels only to those who are willing to wade deep into this fantastic Eco system. This is the beginning of many visits as I repair and modify a covered screen porch in the swamp and make it a livable bug out location.

Hey, thanks for watching. Shelters or a camping platform in the swamp are the best bragging rights. lol. One of my extreme projects for that shack is to get solar out there and keep a mini fridge stocked with beer. 420s and Florida crackers. Cheers! Here's to the Florida life.

There's probably gators especially if it's in Florida. They aren't half the threat the water snakes or mosquitos would be. Just keep your head up and don't have too many 420s while in the swamp and don't be a dippy and you'll be ok from gators. @@ReefOU812

That place is cool as it gets. Seclusion is gonna be something thats more valuable than just anout any commodity a person can imagine. To be in an area that nobody wants to try and find is priceless. Probably. Never built something like this, but here in the coastal carolinas (also a very swampy/marshy region), you can find all kinds of old petrified wood from all kinds of things that have been under the mud and water for god knows how long. Its almost like the wood gets harder and preserves in that sort of environment. I even know a guy who hunts for that sort of wood to build high dollar furniture out of. Also, thanks for paying respect to the Ghost of Kiyv with your picture...

Greetings, I used treated 4” or bigger farm fence posts. The swamp bottom is around 2” of muck so I just drove the posts with a sledge hammer till they hit sand. I sure the post above the muck will rot eventually but not any where near as fast as the treated wood exposed to oxygen. The water is really brackish and seems to protect the posts.

Hey Caden. It was a lot of work spread out over many months. doing a little bit each weekend. I started by building a 2' wide walk walkway back into the area I wanted to build. you can see some of it towards the end of the video. I was able to roll my generator out there to run my compressor and saws. the lumber I tossed on my shoulder. Its about 150, 200 yards from the dry pine flats where i staged my materials. repairing has been more of an undertaking. I cant really wade some items out there so I have been trying to temp fix the old walk so I can make the upgrades. I want to put the repair on one video but as slow as its going Ill just pop in some updated till I can make it. thanks for watching.

Hi I'm from Pennslyvania but when I was growing up I always visited my great grandparents and their orange trees in Lakeland Florida. I loved Florida. My hubby and I want to retire in the next couple of years and are thier any really inexpensive places to live left? We are broke but cant afford to stay whare we are at. We don't want to live near a tourest at trap. Just a quiet place whare no one will bother us. Are you not afraid of the alligators? I could understand being leary of water moccasins, we have copperhead and rattlesnakes plus a couple of water poisonous snakes. When I was small small I had a runin with a rattler on my grandfathers farm. It just missed me. Any advice in areas to look?
@slidingwithsasquatch6983
@slidingwithsasquatch6983 Жыл бұрын
Hey. Hope your are well. Thanks for watching. I have family in Lakeland and grand babies there. that place has really turned into something. I surly hope you can find a piece of Florida that fills your soul. as far as cheaper places, that all depends on what and where you want to be. Away from any big metropolitan area is key. Ocala is a out of the way place. has a state forest there. center of the state will always be cheaper. Anything unincorporated. County. Not city limits. I don't care how small a city is, they will tread on you. I am in Volusia county. wish I was a little more south. we still get 1 or 4 days of cold (29 degrees) that keeps us from growing mangoes and such. I hate covering plants but all in all I love the swamp. Lots of people have started moving here in the last few years so things may have changed. 1 bedroom apartments are about 12 to 14 hundred a month. Come this September things are really gonna turn bad. At least for a few years. It might open up opportunities for you. Good fortune to you and your husband.

That makes things more difficult all around. All we can do is the best we can. Not being in a city and having awareness of the area around you puts you miles ahead of the general population. Off grid is to much for me as well. Until I’m forced into it. LoL . Then we fall back to, the best we can. Thanks for watching.

Imma city boy... Can someone help me understand? Wouldn't this swamp be dangerous due to gators?
@slidingwithsasquatch6983
@slidingwithsasquatch6983 10 ай бұрын
Not really any food in this swamp for gators to hang out. I’m sure they do make their way through to the lakes around me. Wild gators are very wary of humans. It’s only after they’ve been fed by humans that they lose their fear and become dangerous. They are hunted in this area so they retreat . Thanks for watching

Greetings. I don't make an effort to, but if I'm working or playing in the swamp and one or two make them selves known, then I will go on the offence. I know they play their part and as long as they do not become a big problem, I live with them. If they weren't so aggressive I would not worry about them but I have removed a quite a few . The racoons love them. Thanks for watching.

@@alabamaoutdoors4468 I've seen them do that or just sit still. I've had some ready to strike with the cottonmouth displayed as I was about to pass. I had a couple swim at me while I was wading in a lake fishing. Only to see them go under about 30" away. That's the worst. I'm sure I look like Shaggy popping out of the water then busting out the walking on water skills. ROFL.

How long did it take to build, and do you ever encounter gators trying to get to your shelter?
@slidingwithsasquatch6983
@slidingwithsasquatch6983 Жыл бұрын
Greetings, Boy that is a tough one. I worked on it off and on for 6 to 8 months. some times just 2 or 3 hours a week. then I would spend all weekend, sun up to sundown. I started building the walk way to the location. that was most of the work because everything had to be carried in the water. once the walkway was complete I was able to roll a generator and compressor out there to build the shelter. I've not encountered any gators yet. They most likely would only be passing through to one of the near by lakes. I have had many stand offs with Water Moccasin. I am going to try and get some of the latest footage up soon. the house was under water after our big storms. Thanks for watching. regards
