Watching this makes me want to pack my gear and just walk off into the wildness. Problem is I ain’t got a clue and probably last a few hours. I’m learning don’t start.

Belt kit survival priorities for SHTF/CIVIL CHAOS. Concept of use- a belt kit that you can have ready to go in a cupboard, boot of the car etc. A lot of belt systems derive from an operator embedded in a large military system, this system assumes no support and might be all you have if no time for organisation. Threats to life in order 1) hypoxia aka -other people 2) hypothermia 3) dehydration, dirty water 4) starvation 5) loneliness 1)Defence- disorientation navigation- first you need to move to safety and away from danger/ zombies. headtorch, map and compass, whistle to signal location, rally allies. a decent machete/large camp knife/small axe is a must to protect yourself during initial bug out and initial phase of breakdown rule of law. 2)Shelter- blade as above+ a small hand saw eg Bahco Laplander for shelter, defensive structure, firewoood prep eg stakes, spears, palisades, fuel. Decent poncho- water proof-most versatile piece of kit, wear it, make bashas etc, hammock. Bothy bag 2-man, wind and cold proof, very light, incredibly effective as instant wind chill excluder, stealthy or high vis rescue, heat with small tea light (with ventilation obvs). Use anywhere no poles or string needed. Small neoprene/ polythene sit mat (eg strong shopping bag fill with dry grass leaves etc, like a pillow) Protect from conductive heat loss when sitting. Getting a wet arse. 3)Water- collection, purification, storage. 2xWater bottles puritabs, Swedish mess kit. Use bottles/poncho to collect, Swedish mess tin to boil. Note boiled water inside bottle wrapped in clothing placed next to femoral vein (in your groin next to gentleman vegtables)= very effective Vs hypothermia 4)Food- pemmican, energy bars, brew kit. Fishing line and hooks. Snare wire. Knowlege of wild edibles eg mushrooms. 5) Fire- Ignition system- fire steel+ striker+ tinder, cigarette lighters x2 cooking system Swedish trangia mess tin system can be used with trangia or twig fire, large tin functions as Billy can over larger fire if non tactical phase. Essential when modern fuel not available. Water purification, hot water bottle heating, food cooking, making safe any small game, old meat, that might have parasites or gone a bit off. 6) first aid kit 7) Morale kit- a couple of dice, small pack playing cards, packet of rolling tobacco+papers. Sweets. Last item not to be underestimated, sharing, building a team, having a laugh = team cohesion, something worth fighting for, mutual defence. Friendship. Special friend cuddles. Babies. Regeneration of civilisation.

My belt kit: knife, 3 pouches of 3 each 5.56 30 round mags, advanced first aid kit, fire making/flashlight, canteen and cup, poo kit. But I've learned a lot from you guys.

Your Tourniquet is for blood draw or putting in an IV. Same idea as the old school rubber tubbing. Trauma tourniquet is a total other bit of kit. C.A.T. Tourniquets usually the best, don’t buy anything cheap or plastic online, get the one with the metal U type clasp for the tension rod.

Nice trip down memory lane for a lot of us there, no place names mentioned to keep your op sec! Noted the comment on the pack size between what you use now and the full bergan. Had the same problem and being of a similar age I am not keen on humping HGV levels of kit on my back anymore. So I go a Karrimor SF Odin 75ltr and it works well all year around, with room for winter kit/sleeping bag/bivvy etc. I also use the Thor as my go bag these days as the clamshell open up idea works well when you want to access kit end of the day without the dig deep sessions from the top! Anyhow, good to see you out and about and you never know I might pop down one day to say hello!

So I've been in for 12 years. Had DPM for a few and now obviously in MTP. Anecdote for you three weeks ago in the woods of Essex helping out on a kids camp and one of them grabbed me instead of a branch she the jumped into the water she was trying to avoid lol. Anyway before she came past 20-25 people went past me without seeing me. I think it's all about how you use the cam. Use it right and it will work. Honestly in my opinion MTP is the way to go. Again though funky it's everyone has an option.
