Great videos..I wondered how the Subi engine cooling would be plumbed...as I thought, alot of hose! Thanks!👍

you have to get the aluminum maf the plastic one sets of check engine. EJ22T 90-94
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Hiram Whitaker tough to find in these parts! Do you know if the aluminum MAFs are only on the EJ22t?
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Busaru so I did a little research and it looks like the Hitachi MAF sensors (aluminum ones) can be found in 90-91 2.2 NA manual trans Legacys and the turbo ej22 Legacys - except for mine I guess :-/

What is the brand and part number of your alternator belt? I have a 2000 EJ25 that I'm planning on installing in my 4 seater buggy. Thanks for the video series!

I watched all your videos in Afghanistan, I'm building a 73 super beetle w/ an EJ22 N/A engine out of a 96 Legacy Outback for my daughter and I was wondering if you were going to post more videos on your project

+mik rey Hey Mik, I totally am - thanks for watching. I've been swamped with cool customer projects so my personal projects, like the Bugaru, have to wait...

So I love you videos. I am getting ready to do a 92 Legacy ej22 swap into a 72 Squareback. With your videos I think I can make the harness but how does the Subaru harness become one with the VW harness. For the vanagons you talk about the black box but what about the air cooled VWs? Did I miss that video?
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Phillips They are all a little different but you'll need a battery source, and a keyed ignition source (usually from the spark plug ignition coil). That'll get your engine started. I'll put together a video in generic harness integration at some point.

Will be starting a 1974 Super Bugaru project in a couple weeks. Using a non-turbo ej22 out of a 1993 Legacy wagon. Motor, ecu, and the harness are the big ticket items I need, but what other items would you recommend? I've found VW Bus lists, but nothing for a Beetle conversion.
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Josh Pilon A Throttle Body Reverser, and adapter plate and flywheel, and cooling system. That's really about it.

What does a build like this cost roughly? I've got a 61 bug I've been dreaming about doing this or having this done in the future just not sure as to what the cost would be.

Thanks for great videos.keep it up. i am currently researching to take on a subaru engine swap into my beetle. my beetle has a swingaxle gearbox and i am wondering if the gearbox is strong enough to handle the power from subaru engine. i want to swap with either EJ22 or Ej20 non turbo. kindly advise on gearbox. Finally which clutch plate and pressure plate must i use. i need decent power on free way, not for racing. I am in South Africa.

+Daniel Ramonyai You should be fine with that trans as long as you're not hot-rodding all the time. Good luck in your project.

the two lines under your cone filter next to the intake do they just remain open or do they have a purpose mine are currently just open to are they a vacuum line of some sort do i cap something?
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+randall lucas they are for the evaporative emissions (charcoal canister). You can cap or just leave open, you can also connect them to the char can like they were in the Subaru.
@SmokeUnicycle237 жыл бұрын
I cant wait to start doing my conversion xD I have a Question, what are you using for a ECU? did you get a whole car and strip the harness out or did you buy the motor then buy a wiring kit and ecu from someone like Megasquirt , haltch? Awesome videos sir, keep them coming. Very Informative!
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+Caydon Miller Thanks! I don't think you'll regret Subie power. I bought a donor car and used the stock harness and ecu. I have a Microsquirt that I'll play around with at some point but boy, I like the simplicity of the early 90's ECU.
@SmokeUnicycle237 жыл бұрын
Oh yea I cant wait lol How many miles does your motor have on it? I can find these pretty cheap but high miles.... My thing is, is that i get the high mileage car. Swap it in then save up and buy a JDM motor with 30-50k on it. Thanks so much for replying! I will be having more question here in the next few months xD
@Busaru7 жыл бұрын
+Caydon Miller the engine I have has lots o miles. Something like 200k. I rebuilt the heads but the bearings and rings are high mileage. It runs like a top.
@SmokeUnicycle237 жыл бұрын
200k wow I was saying mid 100k was High. Looks like I am buying a whole car for this swap xD But I think I am going to remount the turbo lower so I dont have to cut much of my car lol and did you put a cross brace for the motor to sit on like in the bus? And we all know about the Subaru head gasket problem... but other than that I havent heard much else.

Those inlet temperatures tho....inter cooler maybe as a future mod?
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+TRON 0010010110 Maybe some day, although there isn't much space to run one without cutting body panels. Right now it's set up in the stock Subaru configuration. If I want to boost further I may look into methanol injection to lower temps (I don't know much about it at this point).

Maybe I should Google "Death Wobble". Is it because of the location of the engine? Looks like it gonna be a fun little go-kart. How about heat? Or maybe you showed us that and I just forgot...
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+Forthwith Tx it's the first year using struts so they didn't get it quite right. Lots of new suspension stuff going in. Heat is a luxury at this point - need to get it driving and killing muscle cars first :)
@jwillard9117 жыл бұрын
The death wobble is caused from worn out front end bushings. Replace with the newer polyurethane bushings get a more solid and longer lasting front end. I've done 2 of my bugs made a huge difference.

hey isaac are you running a stock trans aswell? what did you do as far as an intercooler and engine/trans mounts?
@hobohot8 жыл бұрын
I'm running a pro street stock trans, so beefy 3rd and 4th gears, with a welded diff. So far so good! As for intercooler. NONE!!! Im only pushing 5psi at most, on e85. I run that thing hard all day, the intake tube never gets hot. I think the blanket over the hot side of the turbo helps a LOT!
@randylucas77518 жыл бұрын
THANKS MAN LAST QUESTION I HAVE where did you perchase the trans or did you have it built and do you do any launches or do you baby the trans?
@bendordoy48158 жыл бұрын
Watching this video series to get tips for my own further 75 super beetle Subaru swap I have a few different ideas for mine i want to fit a EJ 25t wtih a low mount turbo a water to air intercooler a and a Individual Throttle Body kit as well as a 2 wheel drive Subaru reverse geared Subaru trans from subarugears.com mine will be part of a retro-mod restoration
@Busaru8 жыл бұрын
+ben Dordoy That sounds like a fun project, and fast!
@bendordoy48158 жыл бұрын
I agree i can't wait to build it when Mighty Car Mods built a Subaru turbo powered 74 1303 called miss daisy it made 358.5 hp at the wheels it had a water to air inter-cooler and high performance VW bug trans
@bendordoy48157 жыл бұрын
stile change of plan my bug will be naturally aspirated cause the DOHC turbo engine are too wide and I will have to cut off the rear bumper brackets and wont be able to fit a rear bumper
