Drill a bunch of small holes from the inside, then connect the dots with a sharpie and the cut it from the out in one continuous line with a grinder, would be much easier and would yield a near finished result... the drill size size should be small to minimize any blowout. No sparkles in your face, your not lying on your back, and your not struggling to find your line. Your doing an awesome job regardless! Thanks for sharing!

Hello Chad. Been watching your videos for the last little bit. Your a treat to watch, love your honesty and your unpretentious nature. We have a daughter who bought a home in Nova Scotia. She, her daughters and my wife spend the summers there and I come down for a month each summer. We love the people of your province. All we have met share your same personality and the honesty is so refreshing. We were in the bubble this past summer. We did our 14 day isolation and didn’t leave our property during that time. The town grocery store dropped off our groceries on the back porch, the restaurant delivered food to the house. We did some renovations while we quarantined. Salt of the earth people, love them. Now for the build. It is beautiful. It is going to be wonderful when it’s done. Your correct about the tires. They look great. Your lady is going to love that beauty. Great work, keep it up.

@freddiebates55393 жыл бұрын
The grinder is working if the blade doesn't come apart and cut your throat. I think I would have used a jig saw with a diamond cutting metal blade. The car looks good keep the videos coming Chad !

9:54 - that is one hell of a dangerous position for your fingers, especially while cuttin in between those rods where the grinder can flip out or get stuck easily!!!

A quicker and easier way to cut the fender skirt free would be to use what we in the UK call a Jigsaw. Use a fine metal cutting blade and away you go. Because the blade reciprocates and is both thin and narrow it will cut cleanly, less dust, no sparks and follow the contour of the fender skirt very easily. Bosch, Fein, Makita and Metabo make them and plenty of other manufacturers too.
@TheInsaneShecklador3 жыл бұрын
He tried using his pneumatic saw on the right side skirt but the reciprocating action caused the body filler to chip.
@mikemetcalfe15263 жыл бұрын
He didn't have the guide on the air reciprocating saw. That holds the tool to the cutting surface making the cutting more stable and smooth when cutting. A wood/steel blade with bigger teeth would have worked great
@JonDingle3 жыл бұрын
@@mikemetcalfe1526 A steel blade on a jigsaw has fine teeth. And maybe scribe the fender skirt joint on the outside so working on a flat surface in a better position would an advantage too.
@JonDingle3 жыл бұрын
@@TheInsaneShecklador Pushing too hard perhaps? An interesting task to overcome
@mikemetcalfe15263 жыл бұрын
@@JonDingle why use a steel blade...unless you want to cut threw the steel fender. For example, a drywall person uses a cutting-edge for drywall when cutting around a electrical box. So he doesn't cut into the steel receptacle box and cut the wires. Plus have you ever used a hacksaw blade to cut wood... The teeth are too small to cut fiberglass and polyester filler efficiently.

I like the plan you have to take off the fender wheel covers as few times as possible. Can you use another type of material between the rods? Instead of a metal washer and the filler, how about plastic spacers or fiber spacers. Maybe broken bits of a cut off wheel maybe better suited as your spacers? Or thick cardboard? Or maybe little wood wedges? Keep up the great work.

What I have done in the past you would take clear box tape and put it on the inside of the fender Edge so the Bondo doesn't stick to the car body and then you could unbolt Fender skirt and it would pull right off of the tape and then you could send it back how you wanted it to look I've done this before on a Formula Ford race car body were the top of the body fit along the side of the car fits the bottom of the shell meets the top of the shell and to get full surfaces to match each other I made one surface first put the tape on it clear box tape and then put the other part of the body on it smeared fiberglass resin in between the two body half and they match perfectly

You do amazing work! Love the videos! I have a suggestion out of concern for your welfare, and I hope you understand where I'm coming from when I say this, but I couldn't help but notice that you normally don't bother wearing ear muffs or ear plugs. There was a time when I didn't either. However, several years ago, my wife and I took in my granddad when he was no longer able to live by himself, and I remember how much it bothered him that he couldn't follow and participate much in our conversations around the dinner table and such due to the fact that his hearing was almost completely gone. Back in his day, hearing protection and things like that just weren't really emphasized like they are today, and he just didn't usually bother with ear plugs when working on cars and around heavy equipment and such. In his younger days he was the life of the party, always telling jokes and he loved talking to people. But as he got older, and all the hearing damage had progressed, he started to feel more and more like an outsider because he just simply couldn't hear what was going on anymore. It was so sad to see the regrets he had, that he had not protected his hearing. Hope I don't sound like an old nag. God bless, and keep up the good work!

I have this tool made by Dremel 4,000 it's like a Swiss army knife for a tool that has different connections. It reminds me of one of those Doctor's tool's they would use to take casts of your arm or leg, any how this tool cuts a lot of stuff without doing much damage to anything. I was thinking it would have been great for cutting trough the filler and you would use the grinding for cutting off the bolts. Anyhow you got the job done with what you have. Check into that tool maybe for another job that would make it go faster with less clean up work. ✌🏽

Covering your mixing board with masking paper each time you mix eliminates fighting chunks in your new putty, also, it makes the mixing process better because it give you a clean, smooth, flat surface to mix on, which even gives you a more thorough, complete mix. In the long run, its faster. Then there is no clean-up. You just peel the paper, and toss it. For heavens sake, try it for a week, you will never go back.
