I m glad you offered that the tones change dramatically as you up the volume. that one point is something that I began to feel less about. I wanted this tone to do circles around other amps during the rectifier play.

Your side bar gets it exactly right on rectifiers; these things have much more effect on the feel and response of an amp than the tone. Being that the rectifier is not in the guitar signal chain at all, any real tonal effect is usually secondary and a result of how the tubes react to the juice the rectifier is providing.

Definitely sounds best with the valves/diode blend to me. Much livelier, and a lot more head room.

enjoy all your demos, this amp seems very versatile, I play everything from country to metal, was just curious if you had played a telecaster through this amp, I have seen alot of metal reviews on this amp because of its high power and gain sounds but have not found any chicken picken through it yet and as I said I play it all and if it does country as well as it does blues and metal I will go and buy one, thanks again for the great demos.

Part 2: Also the Mesa Rectifier series amps have solid state rectifiers as well as tube, just because they have tube rectifiers doesn't mean you have to use them. You can apply the same logic to channels: Why do Metalheads prefer amps with a clean channel? It's not the rectifier they're/we're after, it's the sound of the amp, the Rectifier series has a distict sound.

the used market is your friend here, you can grab used Recto's for $1000 easy and it will be much better built and sound great

KZbin has been crashing on my Windows IE 9. I switched to Chrome and it works. Works fine on my Mac OS X with all the updates installed.

Hey King. Have you tried swapping tubes to see how well the auto bias function works? Perhaps made some measurements with a probe, to see if it actually does it right?

hey !!!! iam christos !! seriously my friend tone king You are awesome :) your videos are very helpful and nice to watch! keep up the good work ! also if yoy can..you can make a camparison between engl tube toner e 430 and v twin mesa boogie i have them in my pedalboard and i use them in two channels with an fx loop (saving money this period to buy a boogie mark 5 head ) which of those two holy grail preamps is best for you ? :) thank you !

It depends on which site you get it from but Musicians friend .com has it listed as $799. But then again, it still isn't in mass production yet so who knows :/

I never understood why metal heads preferred the tube rectified amps. Tube rectifiers provide a certain "sag". Metal's all about being tight and having definition, which is what silicone diodes provide.

Off hand I can't think of any tube rectified amps that metalheads prefer other than the Mesa Boogie Rectifier series (I don't count the Trirec as it hasn't been released yet), and while many metalheads use the Rectifier series they don't make up a huge portion of the group, Marshall is as, if not more popular, then there's Randall, Peavey, ENGL, Diezel, Blackstar - I could go on - and these amps (the ones prefered by metalheads) don't have tube rectifiers. With standard tubes yes. with good tubes in them, they actually sound and work very well. Mesa is way too overpriced, as so many other amps these days.

Eh... dislike this amp. I've got a Dr Boogey pedal, which is a transistor version of a mesa dual rectifier's solo channel, that sounds 194 times better than all of those settings going through a solid state peavey. This amp sounds like crap to my ears.. but might just be because its not cranked enough. Good demo though, thanks lmsjr!
