This was a great video on planning placement off hives and the relaxation of seeing straight even lines. Especially great for new beekeepers!

Absolutely beautiful site! My husband is trying to set up a camera where I can just sign onto my phone to see my hives insteading of marching through 2 feet of snow. I hope it works. Have a wonderful holiday!

Good 👍 luck with that New spot. Looking forward to watching it grow 😊. The water thing makes me nervous not going to lie. But spot looks amazing.

Let's hope all turns out well. Now I just need to decide if I am going to install packages or splits from the farm yard.

@apveening 22 күн бұрын
@@BugFarmerBees Depends, how many extra hives do you have at the farm yard? Some of those you could already move while they are closed down for winter. And some of the bigger ones you could split and install packages for the remainder.

It's difficult to see from the video, but given the risk of flooding, I think I might have placed the first few rows back closer to the truck as pictured at 17:40 or so. Plus maybe more sun as the trees on the opposite bank are going to shade things in the summer?

Awesome location and setup getting the stands all leveled, do they have any food in the area there? Looks like an excellent land for some clover !

I am certain there is food in the area but I I have never seen it i the spring. Either way, after a season of bees the place will really wake up and everything will be popping.

You might want to drive some rebar’s, several feet as it is loose soil . One on each side at a angle away so if there is a chance of flood you can tie down the hives . You can also tie some foil pieces as a reflective detent for critters. Just a thought.

Thanks. I never even considered that.

Easy to dig (that's what the SHB may say too!) Do you have permission to use GrubEx on the soil? That may help to keep those numbers down. I was thinking about flooding as well, but it didn't look like there was anything fresh indicating a flood even after the year you've had, glad the property owner said it shouldn't be a concern. I'm sure a stake or post at your hive stands could keep them from floating away. Any concerns about larger pests since you are near a creek? That's nice to have a few different locations for your bees to hedge your bets. Thanks for sharing!

I will be saturating that soil with grub-x to fend off beetle production. If all else fails I do have the Beetle sucker 5000 :-)

Beautiful loc and it should produce a good honey crop. I didn't see a panorama view of the hives and their location but I would keep them as far away from that creek as possible. Not sure if you have room for that. Have a good Christmas.

There is room but I put them right on the water. It will be their vacation condos.

A small tip for the string line. Dont actually let the stand touch the string or every one can slightly bump out the line causing the row to not be straight. Whether or not the amount is noticable is up to you!

Well.... like I said in the video the last line is hosed :-). I may revisit it when i place the hives.

Looks like a great new area! Nice to have water nearby. It is a gorgeous area to be doing bees in. As someone else said, you might want to inquire about flooding in that area. Looks like it could easily encompass the entire apiary quickly if it got a big flash flood. Couple questions about the hives: what angle do you put them front to back? I assume you need to angle them for water to run out if you are using a solid bott9m board. Second question is where did you get your honeybee sign at the entry to your home apiary area? What type of paint do you use to paint the outside of your hives? I am getting started this year with two hives and need to paint them over the winter to get ready for the spring.

The land owner said it flooded on rare occasions but I think everything will be fine.

Hey Bug Farmer, ever think of planting nectar plants in the bank of your lake front? There's some pretty noninvasive varieties out there.
@BugFarmerBees
@BugFarmerBees 21 күн бұрын
I have tried that in the past and for some reason the bees fly right past them. I will be planting some flowers in the spring and well see what they do with them.

Hey there love your videos.......I'm up near Chicago and I used to set out pollen sub in January on warm days but came to conclusion that it's not good for all those winter bees to get beat up collecting pollen sub. Once a winter bee forages I think they convert out of winter bee physiology. Just my thoughts. But I live in the frozen tundra
@BugFarmerBees
@BugFarmerBees 22 күн бұрын
Yikes. I hope that isn't the case. I just finished feeding them 4 plates of pollen sub the other day and they took it all. Thank you for the heads up. I'll be more mindful in the future.
