Two years ago I lost about 80% of my bees to pesticides. That looks like what you've got going on. I had about 8 hives of 11 that found the source. Go out early and check your landing boards, they will likely be covered with dead and dying bees. Mine died for 16 days. But mine was from them spraying peaches...after the blossoms were gone, so the bees were caught in the insecticide drift on secondary forage. My queens survived but the numbers just dwindled and dwindled as more and more foragers succumbed. By 10:00 am most of the dead were cleared from the landing board. Hopefully you don't experience what we did, but keep a close eye. You must have an orchard or fruits and veggies close by?
@BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
I hope that isn't the case. Those bees were so healthy a few weeks back. I will be keeping a very close eye on the green hive over the next few weeks to insure they are healthy. Thank you for sharing your experience. I really appreciate it. Take care.

Bug, happy to see that the green hive is thriving! I was just in Georgia for the las 12 days and it certainly looked to me like the flow is on it’s way. I say lots of small blooms on the ground and some flowering trees that were opening up. Happy spring to you! I am still about a month from opening my hive to see if the girls survived the winter. They are still almost buried by a significant amount of snow here in Anchorage. I know they wont be as strong as yours…I’m just hoping they survive. Looking forward to your next video…keep it coming!

Hi Matt. The weird thing is when I went to work that morning everything was fine and when I came home is when I found the bees and made the video. @BugFarmerBees Жыл бұрын
That is a speculation only. I do not know if that is what got the girls I just know that none of the other hives were affected. That said, I do suspect it was a pre-bloom pesticide that may have gotten them.

I hate to see that. There are a lot of pre-emergents going on now here but I'm not sure if herbicides have the same effects that pesticides do. I said holy moly right when you did when you kept pulling brood frames out. Thanks for sharing!

That is exactly what I think happened. I think some crops were sprayed with pesticide pre-bloom and the bees found the trees and got wiped out. Unfortunately, there is no way to tell.

Beekeeping is a great hobby and looks more difficult than it is. Basically, provide a house for the bees and they will do most of the work. You just need to loom in on them from time to time o make sure everything is okay. Its a great hobby and a great sideline business to make honey which is selling for about 10.00 a pound these days.
