About this video: In today's video I will be installing a couple of purchased queen queens in my queen-less bee colonies at the farm. As usual, things go a bit sideways and I have to do some quick thinking on my feet. It's a challenging day. :-)
This Channel:
Although this beekeeping channel is primarily about beekeeping I am also a quasi pepper who believes in becoming self-sufficient. With that in mind, I have started a garden, planted fruit trees, replaced the hedges in front of my house with blueberry bushes, and have recently built a chicken coop. In short, I will share a lot more than beekeeping on this channel.
A little about me:
I am a person who believes you are never to old to learn something. Be it beekeeping, farming, raising chickens, painting, filming and editing video, making wine, beer, bread, cheese, and other fermentation consumables, play guitar etc... If I see something I want to try I start it immediately. If there is one thing I could choose to pass along to my children this would be it. Never be afraid to try. My wife famously told me once that if you are not willing to be bad at something, you will never be good at it. I am bad at quite a few things.
I hope you find my beekeeping videos fun and entertaining as well as get something out of them. I hope I inspire someone to get out and try something new. I hope she will be alright. The bees didn't seem to care one way of the other which freaked me out a bit. I pray every day for people to wake up. The problem is people have lost their critical thinking ability, don't know their history, and have no idea what is coming if they get this election wrong. This is our last off ramp from the road to servitude.

Thanks for the video. It is perfect timing as I am replacing a failing queen in one of my hives this week. I plan to remove the incumbent queen and replace her with the new one.

*I do direct releases often and queen almost always sticks her head in a cell and pumps her back I think to release pheromones. It's really interesting to watch. I've seen one like that for almost 15 minutes before she popped out and went about her way.*

Wish you good luck on that Queen you installed. A UV flashlight can help you see waxmoth eggs on a frame, just laid eggs will be (pinkish white in color and older eggs will be yellow) and they look like little dots under the light. A UV light will also allow you to see SHB beetle eggs.

Good vid as always brother. Something ive been noticing in a few of your past vids. Dont take this the wrong way, its only my opinion, now im not sure what type of bees youve got right there but many of those hives look under populated. Idk if youve seen any of my recent vids but its a world of difference between mine and yours. My colonies are jam packed, wall to wall top to bottom with bees. Were slowly slipping into fall and very soon winter. They need nice size clusters to survive winter with lots of food. Here in Ky the nest needs surrounded in food with another 40-50lbs on top. One other thing, ive seen alot of your frames around the nest are undrawn. When it gets cold that could spell disaster for an already weakened colony. They could get to cold to move over to where the honey is, what i do is I would move those to the outside of the box if i didnt have drawn combs to replace them with. Just my 2 cents and only my opinion, keep doing your thing ma man. I Always enjoy the vids!!!

My dearth is very long here in Georgia. The girls should begin building their winter brood nest sometime this month. Our cold weather doesn't set in until December so I have a bit of time yet. My Goldenrod hasn't even begun to turn yellow yet.

@@BugFarmerBees good deal our goldenrod will fizzle out to nothing I'm afraid. I've already fed 600lbs of sugar this year. If we don't get a little bit of something off the goldenrod and Aster, I'll be doubling that I know easily

I have a suspicion that first queen suffered from leaving that box out that afternoon and early evening, leaving her short on pheromones.

It's certainly possible. I have never seen bees indifferent to a queen. We will see what happened next week when I inspect the two hives.

It hasn't happened to me so far. I just make sure it has a neutral smell.

Spraying your bees with sugar water when you open the hive. That does not cause robbing or is your bees still bringing in nector

As long as the sugar syrup isn't scented with anything it should be okay.

Definitely not your fault if they shipped them a day early. What if you would have been away and didn’t know they were shipped. No different. Shame on them for shipping ahead of time and not letting you know before hand.
