I started purchasing prepper stuff 4 years ago. I have a ..... solar lamp solar cranked radio solar phone charger hand warmers first aid kit head lamps (2 - one in the car, one at home) Duct tape, clear packaging tape Seven (7) items out of 10 is not bad but I need to invest on fire extinguishers and propane to cook stuff with including stainless steel cook set. I'm also planning to buy a wool blanket, 1 at home and 1 for the car especially during brutal winter months here in the east coast. Thanks for the recommendation. I travel internationally at least once a year to keep my sanity. I never fail to bring the my first aid kit and solar phone charger. I've used the phone charger in Morocco, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Greece, and Thailand over the last 4 years and ..... it literally saved my phone from super low batt while on the road. It is a must have item nowadays 👍🏻

Get several large plastic storage bins. During a winter power outage, you can put the food from your fridge in the bins and store your food outside (or in the garage) to keep it cool (or frozen). I can’t tell you how many of my neighbors didn’t think of this we we lost power this past winter.

My Dad taught us this. He put all of our fridge items in a trash bag and in a trash can and sat in the snow. We rarely ever get snow storms but in '93 we had a freak blizzard that threw us all out a wack. I learned a lot that April.

I can't stress enough...cast iron pans and dutch ovens (can be found at estate sales and thrift stores), and learn how to cook over an open fire. Without propane, natural gas or electricity, you will need to cook and boil water somehow, and to stave off hypothermia. Very important skill to learn.

Cast iron Dutch ovens are fun. Blackberry cobbler is wonderful in them. I love biscuits cook in a Dutch Oven. Have had to eat a few with black bottoms, but it was worth it in the end!

Living in Puerto Rico, after hurricane Maria I had NO power for over 10 months two weeks without any communications...the solar inflatable lamps were really helpful, and the radio was the only way to know anything that was happening. Thankyou for a great video. My kindle was so helpful!

@@AbuHajarAlBugatti It was a challenge, but we survived...I live in a rural area up on a mountain looking over the southeast corner of the Island, where the monster hurricane came through. When we were able to get out of the bathroom where we were hiding.. we had no furniture even though the house Is completely made of concrete with hurricane windows. The wind was like being in a tornado for a long while. The power grid in my area was totally destroyed, towers and everything else. I hope to never see a hurricane like that ever in my life🙏

Me, too! Remember the honey. Many teas have medicinal properties. I don't drink coffee, so prep what you do drink. I included some powdered Gatorade, hot chocolate, milk, and a few other bottles of cider and various fruit juices

We live in Mississippi.. and we lost power for 8 days last winter…and speaking of duck tape …. The storm we had was an ice storm.. freezing rain and sleet.. power went out… we ran out of fire wood..cause we gave some to our neighbor… so I had to cut some dead trees down… couldn’t walk in the ice so I took some wood screws and some pieces of 1x4 and duck tape and made clamp ons for my boots… screwed the wood screws all the way threw the 1x4s then Taped them to my boots….worked awesome..no more busting my tail end on the ice getting firewood…

When I think about duct tape, I think about the woman in California whose boyfriend got them stranded in the mountains during a freak snowstorm and they were on a closed road outside of cell service. I remember that she gave her boyfriend her socks because he was going to try to wade through the snow to get out of the area. He died even with the extra socks. She ended up making socks out of duct tape and duct-taping her jeans as waterproofing and she is the one who waded out and lived.

With the duct tape, it also works well for helping start a fire. Also, when you use the mini gas stoves, go to the hardware store, and get the canisters intended for a propane torch! Those are WAY cheaper than the "camping" canisters!!!

That small, rectangular solar charger is AWESOME. Haven’t been in any disasters yet, but I still use it all the time, especially if I’m gonna be away from home all day, or don’t get a chance to charge my phone. It works quickly, and I’d suggest it to everyone. I also bought shower curtains to tape around the windows if necessary, for a little extra insulation.

I live in Las Vegas and we have natural gas here. It’s definitely come in handy before. We do get freezing cold winters here and the power does occasionally go out. My water heater is gas, so I can still take a hot shower. The cooktop is gas, so I can cook food. I also have two gas fireplaces, which can actually make the house too warm. They’re impressive and work great. I say this in regard to having propane. Having gas can be a game changer. Even at two below freezing, no power, I’m comfortable in the 70’s because of my gas fireplaces. I can take a hot bath and cook a hot meal. Throw in a couple candles and flashlights and I’m set.

Gas heat is a complete game changer for emergencies. I'm in NE PA and have 2-100lb propane tanks that I keep full at all times. Propane stove and fireplace inserts and 2 huge 17 gallon beer/ice buckets that get filled with water as soon as I know a storm is coming, to keep the toilets flushing. Just that plus the usual stored water and supplies have made blackouts a PITA instead of life threatening, even in the dead of Winter, when it has gone down to -17F at night here.

Something I found out in the first set of PSPS from PG&E here in California was that my local cell towers, AT&T phone lines and nearest Xfinity nodes had the battery backup run out in about 6 hours. Even though I had UPS and battery backups for the fridge and cable modem I had no access to phone or internet. This was very surprising as I am not in a rural area but in the Silicon Valley. I decided to invest in a Garmin InReach to allow texting to family out of the area and can be used while traveling or camping not to mention living in earthquake county.

By end of year 2022, Starlink and T-Mobile have an agreement for the latter’s customers to be able to use Starlink’s satellite for emergency texts from any remote place in the United States. I also heard that T-Mobile has international free roaming as well. I’ve always been a customer of another carrier, but I will look into this when the Starlink connection is up and running. Apple also just announced that iPhone 14 will come with satellite connectivity for 2 years free. The next few years we will see more phones and cell plans with this feature.

I have all of those (or variations) except the headlamps, which I have been looking at buying recently. After Cyclone Winston devastated Fiji a few years back, I found myself without power for 5 months; I'm in a rural area and one thing that was a must, was my cane knife (machete) for cutting wood for an open fire. I became expert at chopping up fallen branches and cooking over a fire, even making bread and cakes, along with curries from scratch, over the fire. Luckily local council delivered water to fill the tank weekly, as no power meant no water pump.

I got a large electric blanket and use it when I go camping in cold places. I keep it going with my Jackery. It really has been a lifesaver for me. Also, a pad made of reflextex under your camping pad or a bed topper will help a lotl

Yeah, an electric blanket is a great concept. (100 watts for a throw to 400 watts for a king-size bed) Heating pads only use (20 to 60 watts) and will warm your core. Both of those are part of my saving money on electricity during the Winter process. Generally, I use the heating pad if I am on a solar generator.

I just saw this the other day, a light similar to a headlamp that mounts in the center of your chest, almost like an IronMan type of bright light. It also has a red light on the back of this chest strap. We like to play hearts with a deck of cards, it's a great competitive card game that you can easily play for an hour without getting bored, just don't get stuck with the Queen of Spades, she will cost you 13 points.

One thing I do know a lot about is electrical power. Get a good marine (boat) battery, 100 watt solar panel (to keep the battery charged) & an inverter. There are 2 basic kinds of inverters (modified sine wave & true sine wave). The modified are less expensive, but not every appliance "likes" operating on modified. NEVER run any medical equipment or cordless power tool chargers on those. They may be damaged. Also, most appliances with compressors (fridge, air compressors, small air conditioners) may not last long on modified wave power.

During the first weeks of lockdown I worked supermarket security, which mainly involved policing the queues (we Brits love to queue). Two vital but overlooked people were in one day. One was a heavy goods vehicle mechanic, and he was working 80 hour weeks to keep the trucks running. I keep mine charged. I check the periodically to make sure they are Fully Charged, even my Block. I have the same Radio you have, however while Charging it, my pup got it and chewed part of the Crank handle. Uuuhg. I can still crank it. I'm a 78 y/o widow with a small dog. We live in an apartment and I get only social security to live on. Unfortunately we didn’t have a good setup mostly had to wait for the power to come on (in our area we were lucky and the power would come on and off every few hours)and use our electric kettles to boil water, but ideally you’d want something like a camp stove that doesn’t require electricity I would imagine

You can get small heat mats that use USB. Which you can use with a battery pack or you can get USB sockets/12v battery and small solar panel. I used this for day old chicks when we lived in a shed.

A lot of us have cordless tools that have USB adapters that can be used to charge things also. We even used them to power led lights while camping and one battery lasted several days. Just make sure to keep batteries charged up.

We have all of these. I have decks of themed cards that have survival tips, foraging tips, etc. Although we have hand warmers, we also, have hot water bottles. If you need to conserve water, after the hot water bottle cools down, pour the water in a pan, reheat, pour back in the hot water bottle. We have 6 of these for warming beds, ourselves and a room.

I bought a LuminAID lantern (warm light version) and LOVE IT!! So warm and comforting, and stupidly light. They’re a little more expensive ($30 off Amazon) but I’m going to continue to buy more over time, each payday. If I get about six or so, that’ll help us light up the entire house nicely. ❤️

I'm using them to cut my leccy bill. However, I'm not going to use them when shrhtf. I live end of the line for power, so any power outage here is a huge chance of 10 days without power if not restored within a few hours. We collect sticks that fall from the trees during the summer to use in a grill for power outages. We keep enough water to last 2 weeks, because after 10 days of no power it can take several days to thaw out the well and all the lines. We always try to keep at least 1 week of shelf stable easy to prepare foods also. Camping stove, grill and homemade rocket stove all help with cooking. Burkey for water, but also have tablets and life straws. Get a good p38, they don't wear out, sharpen themselves and will outlast 1,000 can openers easy. Good list, thanks for sharing!

I laminated our deck of cards for our bag. Along with some other card games just to keep them from tearing up. I also put dice in a small plastic water bottle for Yahtzee to keep up with them. It works great when we go camping and when tornadoes pop up it keeps our little one entertained and less stressed. I have most of these in our camping game bag and just grab it when tornadoes pop up. I absolutely love all things solar for the bag💜 and laminated 😉

I use re-usable hand warmers and heat pads . After use, they do have to be placed in hot water for about 15 min. to reactivate them, but they can be used over and over again. I love to use them as bed-warmers in unheated bedrooms.

Heating palm size rocks, is a good way to keep hands warm! once heated, cover them with a soft fabric. It will make them more comfortable and hold their heat longer. I like to put them in my pocket when I go for a walk. Once you find the right size rocks that are comfortable for you, you have free hand warmers anytime, You have a heat source. Make sure the rocks a fully dry before heating them, or heat them in boiling water!!!

The 3 main global shipping routes have major problems. The Panama Canal is operating at less capacity than during the Pandemic related supply shortages. With no rain forecast before 2035 it will steadily reduce operations as their drought deepens. The Suez Canal and water way between China and Tiawan have military and pirate activity that has reduced their merchant ships. Over 90 % of medicine sold in the USA is shipped in. I would also recommend getting a Mr. Heater Buddy propane heater, along with back up mini propane cylinders. If the power goes off in the winter ( for those of us who live with harsh winters ), having this is ideal because you can keep warm without depending on electricity.

I live in NE PA, most of us have propane stoves & fireplace inserts, just because it's cheaper than electric, and more efficient than wood. We do get ice storms and bad rain from hurricanes that have caused many a blackout up here, the worst was 10 days. Being prepared means it was a PITA vs life threatening.

Pretty solid suggestions. I have most of these already. However, in addition to a propane burner, I made my own multi fuel burner that can burn anything from high grain alcohol to denatured alcohol to even vegetable oil or kerosene. I don't have the fine heat control of the propane, but it gives me a range of fuels so I am less likely to run out in the event of a long term outage.

In my opinion,.. I would substitute hand warmers for military wool gloves or good quality wool civilian gloves. Hand warmers run out of heat and are not reusable,.. light weight wool gloves,.. compact,.. last a very long time,.. still warm even when wet.

I'm 50/50 on these so I have some shopping to do. One thing to remember is that to boil water you have to have something to boil it in. For a bug-in emergency you can always use whatever pots and pans you have, but if bugging out you should have some kind of camp cookware set, or at least one of those 2qt Stanley cook kettles that sell everywhere.

KAITO 700 is a NOAA radio with a SD card for my music, in case radio's are down, and a small text reader for phone numbers and medical information. It uses 18650 lithium batter found in everything so having spare charged or charging batteries is no problem. I prefer flashlights, radios, etc that use 18650 battery. Hand warmer is also works for heating up meals when wrapped in a a towel. Hitch Hikers guide to the galaxy - always have a towel.

I already have eight out of ten. The solar panels on the devices you've mentioned are far too small for recharging them enough for powering mobile phones. They need to be plugged into proper power supplies for that. Instead of saying they'll do things that they won't, it would be best for you to go and use them for what you claim they'll do, and discover that you actually need some decent sized solar panels to do what you want to do. And yes, I have such devices and I've tried to recharge a phone with them while using the solar power to keep the power bank charged, but the power bank always loses charge in the process by more than the amount that a full day of charging in direct sunlight will charge them (ie: you'll run out of charge at some point in time - it can't be used indefinitely, as claimed). As for a hand crank on an emergency radio charging a phone... yeah, if you want to sit there cranking away non-stop for an entire day, you might be able to charge your phone (if you're lucky).

Our stuff is camping and Hurricane Power outages related. Have the Luminaid lanterns , 4 of them , two to use while the other 2 recharge. Also have 2 of the Biolite SunLight 100 ( small , easy to pack ) for backpacking. The rechargeable portable radio is a necessity. Duct Tape , several rolls along with a large supply of batteries and battery powered devices. Battery powered fans for the bedrooms and living room. For the cell phones a three panel solar charger and a couple of power banks. Last Hurricane we were without power for 3 , 1/2 weeks. Between my backpacking water purifier , dehydrated food and other items we were sitting good. As a 77 year Florida resident and use to power outages during hurricanes , plus liking to backpack , we are prepared. We look at power outages as just a home bound camping trip. Our luxury item , a portable generator and 4 five gallon cans of gas. Fire extinguishers we have are the medium size ( household ) ones.

A USB fan can be directly powered by a folding solar panel with USB ports. I have a lot of small 20 to 30 watt folding panels for charging power banks and running fans and use the charged power banks with the fans and USB powered warm white LED bulbs at night . Fans that need D cell batteries are crazy expensive to use.

I still like having torches (flashlights) for the novelty factor for kids. AA Maglites are great because they can also be used as a ‘candle’, I also have a big heavy Maglite doing double duty for light and defence near the front door.

I have listen to many videos on being prepared for everything!! I have collected an abundance or items and information for years now. I have tried to come up with different events that could happen in my aera, to be as prepared as possible. Collecting them a little at a time, and now have only one that scares me, no matter how prepared I am. That is fire! We have many wildfires that happen each summer! (in Alaska) They can cover a lot of ground in a very short time. I have witnessed this firsthand; it is not a good thing to see. Having a to go bag, and water is close to our exit door or in our cars at all times makes sense to me. We also have really strong windstorms that can last for days. The loss of electric power is always a thing in windstorms. We stay prepared for that year around. We have had several earthquakes too. They are a little harder to plan for. Having tech equipment, secure is a must for earthquakes. Any treasured items should be secured in the best way possible at all times, since you don't have a warning with earthquakes.

I have two battery chargers that also double as hand warmers. They are called muddy buddies and the battery ladts for a long time and will charge my phone several times. Sometiems i work in refrigerated units installing conveyor. They worked great in that situation to warm my hands and charge my phone. I found them at a random like discount store. They were cheap and totally worth the money

During the Texas freeze this year, large areas were without power for days. The cell phone towers went down when we lost power. Be prepared to be cut off. Simple radios, for you and as loaners, are helpful to stay in contact with neighbors. One neighbors can let another know about prowlers, check on the elderly without exposing them to disease, or to request help in an emergency. Cheap plastic table cloths or shower curtain liners can be used to line your tubs to hold water. Normal tub drains aren't very reliable. Want a great moral booster? Keep a French press handy to make coffee. We used ours a ton during the freeze! Show all family members how to disconnect the garage door for from the auto opener if you have one. Don't believe officials when they say things are under control, that power will be back on soon, or that things will be better soon. Plan for them to be wrong.

I have that same radio and honestly it hardly catches anything, mostly static and what it does catch is low quality fading in and out. I recommend a cast iron Dutch oven pot for those with a fireplace, you can cook in your fireplace with one.

I know almost no one uses kerosene anymore but I keep a heater for emergencies. The flat top convection heaters work great for cooking on. I knew plenty of people who cooked on them out in hunting camp or ice fishing when I was a kid. They come with a cage around them that you have to 86 in order to cook on.

Also, I have been leery of using it because I have a bird as well as cats and I know how dangerous fumes can be to birds, but it is a comfort knowing I have it in an extreme emergency. If the stacks of kerosene jugs that my Home Depot sells every year are any indicator , more people use it than you realize. I have kept a few gallons for my oil lamps, and this season, I have added a 10,000 btu unit and fuel enough for a few days of emergency heating.

@richardelliott9511 Ya, I don't buy the jugs. Too expensive. I buy it at a pump. You can get kerosene for 3-4 1/2 dollars a gallon on the pump depending where you live. A one gallon jug is $10.87 at Wallyworld right now and a five gallon jug is $55 at Tsc. At those prices propane is actually cheaper and easier. Kerosene on the pump beats propane price wise because it generates more energy for the money.

@richardelliott9511 Ya, a lot of stations don't keep a kerosene pump anymore. There's reduced demand for kerosene compared to what there was 50 years ago. It used to be every other house used kerosene for heat. Nowadays with far more efficient and capable hvac fewer people are using supplemental heat than used to. I'm lucky enough to have a pump four miles from my house so there's no worries there.
