I think your name is Eric none the less u were meant to be a KZbin star and I haven't ever seen a cheesy video, keep them coming. I ask u about my evap canister the other 94 dodge 3.9. I have replace purge valve and solenoid and egr before I new the canister was plugged. Yet it was still gurgling like it was getting to much fuel. I know u prob don't advocate this but I unplugged one of the vacuum lines to see what would happen and the gurgling has stopped. 94 was before obd plug ins and has a built in system. I can't afford a $3000+ system like u have and the evap canister was discontinued in sixteen so really don't know what else to do. This is better than fouling plugs or throwing timing out. As the canister was emissions fumes any way. Sorry for the book. That is if u read this far lol

When I was in college in the early 70's I had a 1965 LeSabre that I drove back and forth 100 miles each way every week for five years. I would post on the ride board what time I would depart on Friday and return on Sunday. I would take five passengers, fly up and back on the interstate at 85-90 and the car wouldn't even breathe hard. If I remember correctly, it had a 400 c.i. engine. After graduation. I continued to drive it until 1985. Other than routine maintenance, most of which I did, it never required any work. My uncle eventually bought it from me and drove it until the early 90's. What a great car.

My mom still has that exact year LeSabre. I used to have an '04. They had their share of nuts and bolts issues, worst being the DexCool sludge/head gasket issue, but otherwise that 3800 was a beast. I just replaced a control arm and oxygen sensor in hers and it's still rolling. Thanks as always, Eric.

I miss my old Bonneville with the 3800, that motor was such a gem. Sure it'd eat coil packs sometimes and the intake manifold gasket was perpetually leaking but the mechanicals of that engine were just incredibly rock solid. I wish I could buy a car with one in it today, honestly.

It's not a "cheesy" video at all. Every time you explain a diagnostic process, people have the opportunity to learn. If people don't want to or can't repair their own cars, they nevertheless learn how the system works (OH! Cars are a collection of understandable systems!) That means they are less likely to be treated unfairly when they take their cars in for repair to someone less scrupulous with the truth than Eric O.

a couple years ago had the purge valve fail on our 01 lesabre so i replaced the purge valve. then shortly after the intake plenum went kaboom, (car set for a day and went to start it) definitely recommend checking the fuel pressure regulator just to double check and make sure it isnt leaking. built up fuel vapor in the plenum so when i went to start it went. replaced the plenum, fuel pressure regulator and been fine since. also put a standard igntion part on and it failed after a year.

My motorhome (Ford F-53) threw a "too much vacuum" error code after filling up. The purge valve was functional, as was the vent valve and the canister was not plugged. The problem was the spring operated valve in the gas cap not allowing atmosphere to enter as fuel was removed. Replacing the cap resolved my issue. Watching your videos helped me eliminate items from the parts cannon, and the first "fix" (gas cap) I tried worked. Thank you for your videos. With gas prices as they are, it was not a terrible idea to replace the cap for an 80 gal tank with keyed version anyway. 😅

Nothing cheesy about good diagnostics. Good honest mechanic diagnosing an EVAP system with several possible fail points, and showing that it is item (A)! Nothing cheesy. Your diagnostic on a Ford, do not recall the model, but it was the one that you had the come back on. But in your video you said, customer says car is hard to start after refueling. That tip aided me in feeling 100% sure the purge valve on my 2017 Impala had failed. Unplugged the line at idle had vacuum. Bought new GM valve and fixed. Keep the info coming Eric. Thank you

I miss working on that old GM stuff. The 3800, 3500/3900. All decent engines and super easy to work on. My brother still runs a 3900 Impala I occasionally wrench on and a friend has a Malibu with the 3500. I can keep them running from basically a plastic box of used parts I have sitting in the garage.

Eric, a few years ago I diagnosed my 2003 Town & Country for a EVAP leak fault code. Had to get it fixed quickly for an upcoming emissions inspection deadline for a license registration. Anyhow, the vehicle had a cracked rubber evap hose. Not only one, but all the evap hoses! Apparently the hose material met its life span limit and the hoses all cracked near the same time. Replaced all the cracked hoses for the fix. You forgot to include "Chrysler" in your list of manufacturers. But I know your not a Chrysler fan. That's OK. Love your videos and humor.

Chrysler/Jeep are well known for all the rubber evap. lines to go bad and I do mean every single piece from front to rear. things like the jeep liberty(and others) had steel line sections with rubber splicing them a few places, one location being under drivers side floor it would suck in all the road debris, water, mud and more, unfiltered directly into the system, intake and engine. (one constant vacuum source and one post purge solenoid).

I've owned a few Olds and Buicks with the 3600 and 3800 engines. Great cars. Will go to 200k miles with few issues and the ones they do have are cheap and easy to fix. I bought an Olds with under 100k miles. The drain plugs were rotted out and leaking. Replaced those and went to about 200k and all I did to it was regular maintenance and a harmonic balancer because mine fell apart. Sold it to a person in the neighborhood and they continued driving it for years. I used to just use the green coolant in them and it worked fine.
