Hemi Killer. When Buick introduced the GS Stage 1 in 1970 I was overjoyed. Finally Buick had a muscle car that could compete with any RPO car. When Hot Rod magazine said it was quicker than a Street Hemi in the same trim that was icing on the cake for me. I've been a Buick man since I can remember. In 1957 my father bought a 364/300hp Buick Special with the duals exhaust through the back bumper. He kept it for a long time. That thing idled like it had a 3/4 race cam in it. My brother beat a slightly hopped up 289 Mustang 2+2 in a street race with it.

2012 Buick Regal GS:Car is beautiful! Sporty and Luxury all in one and it only comes in manual amazing. If i were to see this car on the street i would have no idea its a 270hp turbo charged engine with a manual transmission.

It almost kills me inside when people have these "dream garages" filled with tons of classic cars and high performance exotics and most likely never take them out to drive - i mean really, cars were built to be driven! There's no point in keeping something like a Boss 429 mustang, no matter how rare, and not enjoying it on the road.

I drove a 2012 gs with the 2.0 6 speed manual and it was a little rocket 🚀. I was amazed when I popped the hood and seen a 2.0 liter. It did have ZZP parts and a tune but man it would smoke those 20’s through first and second and third hooked and left town in a hurry. And it had really nice bolstered leather seats I was really impressed with the car didn’t feel like our dads buicks!

As soon as she can legally do it on public roads, I sure will (don't want to catch heat like I'm letting her do stuff off property) post it up. She has always had ability when it came to driving- be it her bike, go-cart,or quad.

I'm teaching my daughter in an '85 Plymouth police car V8 with a transplanted A-833 OD (iron case) and a roller-cammed '90 360. I agree, people should learn to drive sticks- also check fluids, change tires, and take care of their vehicle

Great video, but I disagree with the notion that younger generation does not appreciate or know how to drive manual transmissions. I learned to drive on a 5-speed manual Ford Ranger, and have had stick shift on every car I have owned, except for two. While I may not be the majority, there are a number of millennials that still love and appreciate the increased engagement involved in driving a manual. The 2014 through 2016 regal GS would have been my most recent vehicle purchase had I have been able to locate one with a manual, that wasn't overpriced. Definitely among my top three favorite cars of all time.

At the end of the day, with the car like this the extra power you gain and/or time you slice of 0-60 just don't matter - it is about the way the car drives. Trust me on this - the manual transforms the character of this car.

@neostardust Buick will be offering an automatic in this car for the next model year. It is already available on the Vauxhall and Opel siblings and is in testing here in the US. BUT the point is that here is a car that went to market with the manual and continues to draw this line in the sand even with the option of an automatic. Bravo, Buick.

A drivetrain engineer who worked on the GS Stage 1 engine said the engine did 376 hp on the dyno. That’s with all accessories and water pump.

I owned a 1970 Buick Skylark (non GS) with the GSX STAGE 1 drivetrain. To this day I miss that car. What a great monster😎 I would take ANY 65-71 GS/GSX Skylark over anything Buick has built since 1973.

Here in Iceland everyone learns to drive a manual, and if they decide to buy an automatic after they get their license. Fine. But atleast they have some experience on the manual if they ever need to drive one.

That Stage 1 was known as the Hemi-killer in it's day. The new Regal is fast for a four cylinder, but cars like the four cylinder Camero and Mustang will blow it off. And the modern Hemi cars would just leave it so far behind that you wouldn't even know where it went! A whole 270 horsepower? The Hellcat Hemi puts out 707 horsepower! And to top things out most Buicks are now foreign tin cans with the Buick nameplate slapped on. The new Buick Envision is built in China! The Cascada is built in Poland and the Encore is built in South Korea. My Electra was built in Flint, Michigan in an auto plant that was torn down in 1999. So why did we bail out GM anyway!?!

GM should toss a crossplane crankshaft in these Buicks to get that growl that everybody loves. 2009+ yamaha R1's have such a thing, and it should transfer to any 4-cylinder without issue, assuming there's enough crankcase real estate.

Most dealerships don't even have cars with a manual in them they are all autos except for sports cars. Sure they have manual listed as available but good luck finding it on the lot

i owned a 67 riv with a 430 engine and a 69 wildcat same engine . then i had a 73riv boattail with the 455 engine i no longer have these classics but i saved one of the the 86 t type w h1 package i will keep this one it only gets better like vintage red wine vernon todd fontaine . onanole manitoba i know my buicks from nail heads to inter coolers

@jjlwis Can't say I have heard any BUT I already have a suggestion: Bring over the 2.8 L V6 321 HP ALL WHEEL DRIVE VXR/OPC car with the Recaro seats. Can't express how truly pleasantly surprised I was by that car . . .

I do like the fact that this new Regal GS has a 6 speed manual, but the problem is that it's only rated for 295 lb. ft. of torque. Since the car has that much torque stock, there could be issues with it for those who want more power. Hopefully ,there will be aftermarket parts soon for both the manual and automatic transmission to toughen them up.

Automatic transmissions do actually have advantages. You can modify them with shift kits,servo's, valve bodies,and external transmission coolers which will enable them to handle a lot more power than stock unlike a manual transmission which can't be modified nearly as much. A lot of those modifications will likely reduce horsepower loss due to the reduced slippage , so automatics aren't a bad choice by any means.

nah, he meant that the GS was not really supposed to compete against anything ford had (against popular belief), nor was it supposed to be the buick version of the chevy corvette. just to clarify :)

I'd rather have the 3.6 v6 since it's already making 323 horsepower and the extra displacement will help make more torque than the 3.0 v6. I'd like there to be an "X" option with a turbo 3.6 available.

I've owned a Buick Roadmaster lt1 and I've owned a 96 Buick Skylark with the v6, loved the roadmaster but it killed on fill'ups and the skylark was ugly but had guts and was very willing to move. I like this new GS but not a huge fan of the i4 turbo. I've driven the Cruze RS a great car for a college girl but not something id own and even though this is the Opel insignia I feel like it's just a beefed-up version of the cruze. I see Buick has released a brand-new 2018 Regal GS with the 310 horsepower V6 witch is nice but I wish they didn't change the body as much as they did

Never been a fan of Buick's never even thought a Buick would come in manual transmission until now, this car has completely changed my mind on the way i see Buick's. I used to think Buick's were for old people(no offense)...not any more, i am 20 year old man and i have found my new dream car. Yep the us Drivers Education system is horrible. I personally think the entire US driver education system needs to be re built from the ground up. One of the largest problems we have is, most people don't think of driving as a skill to be practiced and developed over time. They just think of it as something you do to get to work never realizing how little they know about controlling a vehicle. I know in some countries you are required to drive a manual for a year before you can get an auto.

Now I’m sorry... I love muscle cars but I’m pretty sure the 2.0t gs awd would smoke a stock gs. Most muscle cars were running like 14s.
