The first story was actually pretty sweet. And as for ashes: You cannot get anything more sterile than cremated humans remains. A body is cremated at 1800 degrees F. Nothing can survive that. Make families seal the ashes in a plastic or glass vial though, lest it blows out and leaks all over the stuffing as in story 7 - and you should be OK. Edit: And a store demanding people dye their hair "because it is their policy" should bear (no pun intended) one thing in mind: They are dealing with school kids who want to make a few extra dollars. Nobody is gonna shave off their hair or dye it because some self important store manager demands it. Especially not for some summer job that they will be happy to walk away from in a few months. Stop being so self-important. If you see fit to police how people look, I wouldn't want to work for you anyways because there is a chance that you will try to be a LOT more invasive and / or a micro manager in other areas.

I'm infamous at my local BaB for being "the frog guy." Whenever they release a new frog I always show up to get one. The day I brought in the 36 inch frog was very fun. A kid asked how mine was so big and I responded "I feed it well." For Christmas I got my mom a frog that looks like me, because when I was 2 she had me make a bear with my voice in it and I was nearly 18. She hugged me really tight when I showed it to her and was so happy when she realized it talked. The weirdest thing I've done is probably wander in near closing time after my shift elsewhere in the mall and show the employees a video of an axolotl "barking" they all thought it was adorable and I used it to help me test how the mic worked.

I actually went to Build-A-Bear for my birthday so I could get a Tom Nook plush, take it apart, and use it as a pattern to make a plush of a character I made (it’s unnecessary I know, but I actually have another of the same Tom Nook plush sitting on my bed). So, I went to the store, picked up the skin of the Tom Nook, skipped the whole stuffing and certificate thing, and just took the skin to the cashier. The woman working there did not seem fazed by the fact that a person was buying just the skin of a stuffed animal, and she never even asked about it.
@MercuryCat Жыл бұрын
If it makes you feel better, it’s actually not uncommon to get the “skin” and bring it (and the kid you’re surprising) back to the store at a later date so they can do their own heart ceremony and dress and name it themself, so if you just want the skin for patterning or to stuff yourself, the employees aren’t really going to think twice about it

So that's how 5 19-22-year-olds (and a 25-year-old in spirit, the worker let us grab an extra heart for the friend that couldn't come) made our beautiful son, Fredrick, and gave him six hearts (the employee insisted one for each of us). And this was a build-a-bear kiosk (full store closed years ago in that mall), so there's just normal mallgoers walking by, watching this group of college students rub fabric hearts in all the spots they tell you to. Awesome day; little man still sits at my desk in my room. He turns 1 on November 28th XD

One time, a manager finished her shift and went home - only to get home and realize she forgot her keys at work. She had to open the store the next day, so she had to return to get them. In the meantime, the other managers took a photo of the keychain, applied the x-ray filter to it, and then printed it out. Then they went to Build-a-Bear and had them sew the keychain inside a bear. When the manager returned to get her keys, she found on her desk a teddy bear clutching an x-ray of the keys to its chest. 🤣 She then had to go to BaB to have the employees extract the keychain! Story #4 really concerns me. No mentally stable individual would yell about such a private affair for the whole world to hear, especially in a store full of young children. Was his girlfriend really cheating on him? Or could he just not handle his girlfriend being friends with another guy?
@japanesejackalope Жыл бұрын
I mean, when you’re mad, you’re really mad. Was it the best thing to do? No but I think it’s amusing about the idea of him giving the bear to his ex and she hears all that. And I’ll be honest kids will likely hear far worse things at school than in public.
@avalasialove Жыл бұрын
@@japanesejackalopeThat doesn’t excuse his lack of self control. If he has such a problem with controlling his temper, imagine what his ex had to go through. A lot of domestic abusers use their partner’s unfaithfulness to justify their abuse. I’m not saying he was abusive, but his behavior raises some red flags. I hope they both got the help they clearly needed.
@japanesejackalope Жыл бұрын
@@avalasialove i never said it justified his behavior I was just saying people do crazy things when they’re mad. He for sure shouldn’t have done what he did. It’s hard to speculate on what the relationship really was from such a short bit of story though. It sounds like he caught her cheating and wanted to reveal to her that he found out in a way that would shock her. At least that’s what I gathered from this. Which if that is the case I don’t blame him but I’m bias as I’ve been cheated on several times with different partners. I never had that kind of reaction but I can see where he’s coming from.
@PrettyLesbian Жыл бұрын
Yeah I took it as a dangerous misogynist tbh. Even if someone was cheating that wording isn't something a man who. is safe for women to be around would say.
@japanesejackalope Жыл бұрын
@@PrettyLesbian maybe but I don’t think it’s good to speculate on someone we don’t know with so little context. For all we know he could be a great guy but then his gf was caught cheating on him. Or he could be in the wrong but we don’t know either way it’s not good to label someone an abuser on limited context, man or not. I never understand why people in comment sections jump to say a man is abusive because he yelled.

I have a build a bear. I used to have them a lot when I was little from grandparents, but I only have one now, ans Ironically, Ive made it within the last two years and it was maybe one of the most special and needed experiences I had in a while. I was in the middle of applying for Graduate school over seas. Decisions were being handed down in a matter of days, and I was so high strung and stressed I was finding it hard to breathe sometimes. My family took a trip into a major city near us for a few nights. And inside the mall we went to, there was a build a bear! A build a bear that, for some reason, had this very specific alien style bear. I asked the staff about it, and they said "Oh, yeah, thats supposed to be online and UK exclusive but a box of ten or so just like. Showed up one day." Better believe I snatched that baby up. They gave me a silver heart. And for a lot of the little ceremony it was like "Think of flying so high, and going so many new places!" And in my very stressed and emotional state, I just started to cry. These very sweet people had no idea what this meant to me, all the factors that had to randomly come together for me to get this cutie. And Ill say, Im happily writing this from overseas now, with Andromeda, my bear, on my bed ❤

I've been in a Build-a-Bear and I think my ex may in fact be one of the weirdest customers to have been in that store. The first time we went there we left with a bear dressed in a shirt and underwear with no pants. Plus I'll never forget the look on the employee's face when she realized the bear was not for our son but was actually for herself. We did also get another bear that was specifically for him. He has Cerebral Palsy and is totally non-verbal but we did help him pick out what he wanted. We basically just hold up options for him and see which one he tends to stare at more. An employee kept coming over to see if we needed help but it actually ended up being more of a distraction cause he'd end up looking at her instead of the Build a Bear options. Funny enough the girl who was working actually had blond hair with dark roots AND tattoos weird how that one store in the video was so strict about appearance but the one we went to didn't seem to care about their employee's appearance. There was another woman with dark hair who stayed at the stuffing machine and sewed up the bears, she also had tattoos. The only real rule they had about their appearance was no dangling piercings which was more of a safety issue because kids will try to pull at them so they have to take off any jewelry before they step out onto the floor.

My mom used to work at Build A Bear in OakPark Mall in Kansas, and she always wore this giant bear costume for a mascot that they had there in the 1990s and 2000s. So she was working there, and a group of women (probably 19 or 20) went to my mom's friend and asked, "Hey, is there a cute boy in there?" while touching the costume's ears and such, so my mom's friend told them, "No, but there is a lovely, nice lady in there." She said that as my mom was waving at them in a funny manner and the women left the store.
