I think it would be cool to come up with DIY bike stand that lifted both wheels off of the ground or at least in the rear for derailleur tuning. A bucket with straps? Hope the channel grows.

I have built stands just like this before. I discovered quite by accident that if the tire in the stand goes flat the bike will fall over to the floor. I added two vertical boards about 16” long on each side of the tire.

Good point! I didn’t really think of that.

Thank you Shumayl. I watched your latest video but didn’t understand due to the language. Btw maybe you should get a bicycle.

Would this stand work if it was stood up vertically? Thinking it might save space of the floor in tighter areas

that's a very good idea I think. I believe it would work. Also you can put the end 2x4s under it, that will raise up the holding sides a little, I did this in later versions.

@BruceChastain Good shout. Out of all the amazon metal/plastic tat and etsy fancy over-craft, I think this design has my vote. Cheers

you're like my dad. creative on his own hands. would make things from what he have. I dont know why I am in your video tbh my bike has a kick stand but this was fun and interesting to watch

thanks Ryujin. I think this come from people who don't want to spend money on things :)

As you said, we've seen these before, but I am skeptical of having the bike's weight (which is not much since it is leaning, but still) being supported by the rim and in turn have the rim subjected to bending forces. Now I have come to appreciate kick stands. I used to take the off and throw them away...not anymore (they are about $10).

I've thought about that too, but so far haven't had a problem. But I kinda think it somewhat depends on the fitment of the stand and the weight of the bike. I guess also the wheels are fairly strong because they have to handle all sorts of forces while being ridden on. Could probably modify this design to have a front vertical portion to catch the front of the wheel so that the wheel has a better contact area.

i like it! Best part is you can repurpose those side stabilizer bits as a spot to put the toolbox/bag of bike stuff on one side, and a box/bag for your spare tubes, lube, etc on the other side. Nice tidy area for 'bike things.' Given my bike is like part of a wider multipurpose shop. Not having the bike specific stuff get mixed up is sorta important. Because literally NOBODY else here has use of a crown race wrench, crank puller, bottom bracket remover, freewheel tool, etc. As for the stand itself? The only idea i have is if you can round out the edges. I could see arguments for an angled cut on the side where you'd roll in at so it easily rolls in but stays in place. I could also see that being a trial and error type thing too when literally all anyone has to do is just lift the bike wheel up a couple inches t oset it in. The rounded edges is mostly an aesthetic but could make a case for it also preventing a hard edge digging int oa tire or spoke.

hmm the rounded edge thing is an interesting idea. At first I was thinking that wouldn't be too good have because the sides are already kinda low, so having an angle then it would seem less area for the tire to press against. But then I thought about it and actually the only parts the tire is in contact with is the front and back. So maybe you could angle in the middle of the stand to make the tire go in and out easier, but keep the sides high in the front and back.
