Nicely done. A well built shed will last decades. I'm looking out on my tool shed that I put up the summer of '97. Looks almost as good as the day I painted it 24 years ago.

We used the same vent in our small radio shed. I wired 120mm computer fans 12vdc to a small 7ah alarm battery and then to a 10 watt solar panel on the roof. It keeps the fans going all the time in a push out/draw in motion. I only used fans on half the holes so I have good even air flow.
@MANaboutTOOLS3 жыл бұрын
Excellent idea! I've been thinking of a similar system of forced airflow using a solar charged battery.

I learned a lot from your first two videos. Having a metal roof maybe you don't need tar paper, but when I was a roofer we always put tar paper on that flat of a roof for standard shingles. So if anyone is reading this and not going to do metal... please remember to use tar paper and put extra nails in each shingle if the roof is fairly flat or you will have water pooling and eventually soaking through somehow, over time. Just my non-expert 2 cents. I'm convinced that your method is better for metal with the screws because the screws have a solid surface to keep the seal. If you punch the screws into the hollow portion the metal will flex and might leak at some point. Probably not much, but my grandpa and I installed a metal roof this way and it eventually leaked after many years

Thanks for putting up these videos. I've been thinking about building something very similar this summer and this series has convinced me. Seems like a relatively easy way to get a bunch of space back in my workshop!

You are a genius! I'm doing something very similar to my shed currently and will have to divide the 16' into 3 compartments that will have their own entries. I like the idea of the hidden door bc that's where I'm be stacking come excess fencing I have. Once it's all done, I'll post a video or something. Foundation is already done. Doing the walls today!

Hey I just found your videos on your shed extension project and if nobody has told you yet? ! Your The Man!! I think you did a badass job!! And what's ironic and kinda strange is the exact same project you're doing or have completed by now is basically exactly what I have planned and not every detail but the main ideas like your work Shop and dust collector shed extension rain water collector! How you put pavers on the shed floor! Basically exactly what I have planned and you have done it how I have had it written out! So I got lucky to be able to watch you and learn from your mistakes! Plus I try to learn from dying video and most people don't show what they are doing in detail or to much talking about everything in their life but not your videos ! Ur r just right!! Plus ur mind set on these f+++ ing wood and everything else prices! Lol

Another fine job done! FYI: The instructions to the Grand-Rib roofing that I had installed years ago recommended anchoring the panels on the flat surfaces. The screws have rubber washers which seal out the rain. They will not seal on the ribs without distorting the panels and skew the layout. I don't know if I should have added this extra step or not, but I also ran a bead of silicone on the rib overlaps between sections.
@MANaboutTOOLS3 жыл бұрын
I too have seen the manufacturer's recommendation that screws land on the flats.

Top of the ridges, less chance of water infiltration. First time I've seen anyone put tar paper on studs. Nice job overall
@MANaboutTOOLS3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Brad. The existing shed had tar paper on the studs as well.
@joeblue3542 жыл бұрын
The washer on the screw for the metal roofing eventually deteriorates over time if the screw is in the top of the ridge the water doesn't lay there as much. But it's not a big deal in 15 years you can just replace the screws with new screws or put a dab of clear silicone on each screw

this will help me finish mine as I was unsure of the roofing specifics. The only thing that I saw that looked to be a problem is the top of your long wall did not meet up all the way across, do you fix something like that with extra trim?

8:35 Instead of dots of glue, you should have laid steady beads on both sides and on both ends, like you did with silicone later.

I did spread the adhesive with a screwdriver before I put the door sweep back in place. But that clip didn't make it in the final video. I find I shoot a lot of footage but, to keep things moving, I have to cut a lot. Thx, Kent

Great job mate👍🏻 I have a question: what about the wood price in the usa before covid19 and now? The price in germany or maybe some more parts of europe has roughly tripled. Not a good time for starting a woodworking hobby at all :(

Solved that as i work with native lumber lonely If I wait a finished piece I put it through planer/jointer and sand it to as smooth as I want it. Only time I do this is when I am making furniture. I live in UpState NY where we have lots of Amish saw mills. One thing that holding up my projects is that they have so many orders. I have order in for 500 1x8x8 and same 2x4x8 Last spring I bought for $7.00 each 200 2x8x8 white oak and same in ash I will be building a new three story all purpose building next summer This will be a multi yr project in that I do all this work alone at 73 Oh the magic of hydronics and air hammers and portable drills.

Always on the tops of sheets alwaya. Because when you put screw on flat there is more chance to water get under the screw because there will be way more water on flat surface than on top of sheet. On flat water will flow on top not.
