Fantastic tutorial, and model, Luke! I'm really glad to see the Victorian, and V/Line, theme come back :) You've really captured a typical Victorian Railways country station beautifully. And I love the way you've done the track; a few years ago I was looking at, along with a friend, using hand laid code 55 rail with timber sleepers and etched plates/spikes. But the amount of work needed meant I just stuck with peco code 75 instead... I'll definitely need to look at this method for a planned layout though! And you've made me want to get back onto the scenery for my current Victorian branchline layout :) It's also great to see a few Aussie brands coming up. SMS is doing great work with their paints, powders, and other items (I absolutely love their sprue cutters!). Hopefully more people pick up their products. I'm not sure if you've come across them, but there's some nice ballast products from Matts Ballast, and Chucks Ballast. Both make great range of ballasts to represent ballast from various quarry locations. You'd be amazed at what we successfully used for ballast in Victoria (loco ash was common; we even had a few branchlines that are recorded as 'sand ballast'...).

I remember years ago we had a simple 1 line platform we used to put our christmas tree on and it only came out once a year. One year I told my dad I wanted to turn it into a layout so we set up the platform on some bricks in our basement and I started working on it. After a year, we added on another 6x4 section to make a cool L-shaped layout with some really cool bridges and tunnels I built with foam, plaster of paris, paints, and some scenery foliage like trees and grass. Unfortunately, as I grew older and moved away for college, my dad had to tear the layout down and separate it into two pieces to make room in our basement. We still have it down there propped up against a wall, but man...I wish I could start another layout someday when I have my own home. We used to go to model train shows every sunday and there we picked up locomotives, freight cars, tools and scenery items, as well as a ton of tips on how to build things. I still have all my trains securely boxed up and stored, so maybe one day I can get all of them back and build something awesome for them, even if it's a tiny 5x5 layout. I miss working on that thing..thanks for keeping the spirit alive Luke!!
