I purchased about 10 packs. Here's some caveats not mentioned. They are stuck together so be prepared to rewrap them with new sleeves. Some appear as though they've been dropped. This was only apparent during rewrap period. Had about 10 rejected cells after capacity testing. Overall batteries do test to rated capacity. However most only reach 4.15v. Fair deal, just a lot of mining.

I bot 50 packs for a powerwall. I'm having to re-sleeve half of them. I also get 2650 to 2750 and the date stamps are 2016 and 2017. Jehu is over-selling these. Add the dents and voltage limits and 3-week shipping. I may send them back.

8mm x 15mm nickel strip will only carry like 8 to 10 amps continuously. You have two of them per p-group, but your p groups are good for about 30 amps so he's a bit light on conductors.

i wouldve added more nickel strips per series connection, youll most likely be able to only pull 10 amps out of that before the series strips begin to heat up

Not only are the nickle strips too small, the parallel cell groups are touching each other and if it were not for the thin shrink sleeves the battery would short between parallel cell groups. That's fine if the battery is stationary but it's not safe to use on a E-Bike that moves and vibrates down the road.
@pianojacq
@pianojacq 3 жыл бұрын
@@barryrudolph9542 Yes, additional fish paper between cell groups is a must for this application, better still to use real spacers (only a few $ more).

Agree on the need for beefier series connections, but no need to use nickel strips, some copper wires soldered in will do just fine.

Why dont you do another post and tell us how long that pack lasted. It was a nice build but... Model: ICR18650-26F Size: 18650 Style: Flat Top Nominal Capacity: 2600mAh Continuous Discharge Rating: 5.2A Nominal Voltage: 3.6v 6 in parallel = 6 x 5.2A = 31.2A your feeding in series 13 times. ~3.6v X 13 = 46.8V Nominal Those 2 5mm or 6mm you have linking the parallel packs in series come in cheap nickle plated steel and pure nickle and I have no idea the thickness so I just pick middle of the chart and say .15mm which can only carry about 6 or 7 amps respectively at max each and if they are nickle plated you can drop another few amps off each and thats max which will run them hot and weaken over time. 6A x 2 = 12A or 7A x 2 = 14 amps either way you better not be running more than 350 or 500 watt motor max or you will burn right through that pack and even then it's debatable. Yes a lot of chinese manufactures make their battery pack the exact same way and that's why they had all those 2 wheel hover board fires

How do you know the amount of amps it needs to charge? This is confusing the heck out of me. So you have 13s7p how do you add the amps required to charge per hour? Lets say 2600 in ah is 2.6ah x 6p=15.6ah 18.2ah x 13s=202.8 Amps. Am i way off because i cant find a straight answer in forums. Thanks
@jaylord55
@jaylord55 4 жыл бұрын
you would charge the battery based off the 6p max charge rate for each cell witch is about 1.3 amp per cell so 6 amps would be max rate i would charge them at. The way he has it configured is 6cells parallel and 13 in series you always calculate total amp hours/ watt hours based off the parallel configuration the series configuration is to just increase the total voltage of the battery. Just for reference each of those cells can handle 5 amps each continuous discharge and 1.3amps charge rate

LOL, or not lol actually. I burnt a hole through my pointing finger a long time ago when I tried to charge a Li-ion battery. You know those short fat ones used on the early point and shoot cameras. It ended up venting and as I let go or the wires...which I was retardedly charging the battery with, the hydrogen lit up and like a very intense torch, it burned a hole right through. A large fire torch was passing right through my skin, bone flesh and nail. I spend a whole year with the ability to pass pencil led through my finger! Great for impressing kids in college. It's been a good 20 years now and I still have a little scar with some kind of dark metallic stuff stuck in there. I'm a happy and stable person, so I assume it's lithium..lol.

Now the 6p packs are not in parallel anymore. It behaves like 13 individual cells and you can see in which 6p pack it is expected to be a bad cell. Then you can disassemble that 6p pack and find it :) Mostly all cells are pretty bad if such a 6p pack is bad. I would not have installed batteries that were below 2.5 V for a long time for high current applications. But he will see how the pack performs. Some old cells wih high resistance may get hot while charging. Difficult to terminate in such a big pack.

Not a criticism or telling as honestly I have about 2.5% of the knowledge you do in your brain in relation to battery systems, controllers and BMS. Please say if i'm out of whack and why if their is an obvious reason. Luckily I did some research before I built it. I have a 1500w bike(not complete yet). Most people that built them with 13S had issues here and there with the power after awhile. I'm sure you meant no harm but there's someone who doesn't know what a BMS is or how many batteries in series how many batteries hooked in parallel and you didn't explain any of this you're going to get some hurt. Have you ever had two hundred amps blow up in your face. 100 almost killed me!

Jehu, I was just looking for your email address to send you an email with some questions I am trying to get answers for regarding building a battery for my chopper motorbike. Or is there another way to contact you more directly? This video is really something I have been looking for, for the very project I want to do. I have some regenerative ideas I can't seem to get an answer for as well, I'm thinking you may be the man to get those answers from. Please message me with a more direct way of contacting you. Thank You, Keep Safe All, -Matt

Don’t build your packs this way. Series connection on every cell , no excuse not to when built in rows like this. This is a very poor example for people trying to learn and seeing you do it they probably feel it’s ok. Maybe in very very low current applications it would be ok but a pack should always be built to the cells capabilities. If the cells can output 60 amps the design of buss bars should easily handle that.

I still can't understand why you take so much time to detail how to unwrap three layers of shrink wrap, but "here we go" your way past the specific details on how to build this supposed "simple" battery. Someone like me who has tried to follow you for years and fill in your activity prior to the "here we go" by piece-parting other videos as fill-in has to be as frustrated as me. I do want to thank you for your videos. I'm not trying to hate here. I know they take time and effort and are many times not appreciated. That is not the case here. I'm just saying, wouldn't it be better to make your videos count even more? Can't you sort videos out specifically for beginners with excruciating details so those of us who want to learn how to put these batteries together can participate? You are leaving hundreds of potential consumers on the table frustrated and clicking off your channel. Shouldn't a beginner type video be for a three year old? Again, I'm not trying to criticize your work. I really appreciate what you do. I just wish I could be part of the movement too. Thanks. :)

Sorry but, if you are getting lost on building this battery, you should not be playing with batteries. Nope I will not show you how to strip wire, or how to solder, or how to stick tape. This is not what this video is about. I can not start every video explaining what a battery is, and why we need them. Sorry

@@MySocialExperiments I think everyone has slightly different ways of doing things. The video would simply take too long. Bounce around to other diy builds and learn. You can piece it together like that, and learn nuances from different battery makers. I find it interesting

DON'T RUN MORE THAN 10 amps!!!! usually one nickel bridge is safe for 5 amps (you can push it to 8-10 amps but you will generate a lot of heat. If you want to run 2800 watts of power (~60 amps) you need a total of 12 NICKEL STRIPS to have minimal voltage sag and heat.

So Wrong. 25 amps input. way to high. Your array of little wires won't handel 25 amps evenly so you are wacking the first set of cells with way to much power.stupid........???????????...... Should be like 5 amps or better 3 amps and let time do it's thing.
