Definitely recommend the motion graphics course! I bought the original version back in 2022, so was psyched to see a new version! But! When I went to buy it, the old version had been updated! Super cool of you @ducky3d!!!

Hello, i am French and "Passpartout" is a French' word ;) "Passepartout" translates to "mat" in English. However, the term "passepartout" can also be used in English in certain contexts, especially in the art world, to refer to a cutout cardboard used to frame an artwork. In a general context, you can use "mat" as the translation for "passepartout."

You know I always thought it looked like a French word, should have looked it up. But now I don't need to. Merci!

When framing a picture to put on a shelf or hang on the wall, there's a paper or cardboard piece that covers the outer edge of the picture and is placed between the picture and the glass. I've always called this the "matte", but some call it a "mat". In British English I believe it's referred to as a "mount" and in France it's called the "passepartout". The translation is "pass everywhere" and refers to something which provides universal access such as a skeleton/master key.

In french passpartout "passe par tout" mean multipass or a key that can open many doors... but at 17:20 it have another sinification who is more rare for french people. Here passpartout refert to the band around the painting you put on the wall. This large band of neutral color ensure that your picture can go in any wall, or "go anywhere" what is "passe-partout" ... passe -> it go, partout -> anywhere.

When you want to multiply the Noise Texture/Color Ramp output, it is "overkill" to use a Vector Math node, especially when set to Multiply. Multiplying XYZ uniformly can be done by setting the Vector Math node to Scale, then you only adjust a single value, so no need for a separate Value node. Or you could have set X and Y to 0 and only entered a value in Z, then you don't need a Combine XYZ node to plug it into the Offset. Apart from that, when using a Combine XYZ node it makes no sense to use Vector Math because the Color Ramp output is a float, so you can use a simple Math node set to Multiply and plug the result into the Combine XYZ node's Z.

In following training videos there is always a missing gotcha. This might be because of Blender version changes. In the vid @ 4:46 the screen collection panel needs to be seen because the workflow is not apparent when creating the collections. But alas most people want their picture in public which really doesnt add to the course content. Come to find out that the 'moving the object' to the loop sequence didnt work in my Blender 4.0 setup.

When my camera is still, the lines created by wave texture look great just like yours, but when I start the animation, they become all jagged/pixelated and don't look smooth anymore. The phase offset adjustment is hard to see and it doesn't look cool like yours does here. Is there something wrong with the way I have my render settings?
@matti_sh8 ай бұрын
I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think it's only like that when it's being rendered in the viewport. I had the same problem and was going insane trying to fix it, specially cuz aside from the pixelation during the animation, the final frame of the loop didn't look right so it broke the loop. the way I fixed (?) it was by turning off viewport denoising in the render tab right under the part where you choose the render engine (EEVEE). that fixed it for me, hope it works for you too.

The animated lines turn out to be a bit jittery for me and I can't quite figure out why, does anyone have a brilliant idea?
@oodoodoopoopoo9 ай бұрын
Sounds like an aliasing problem maybe. Probably adjust your scale or the rate at which you are animating the offset. Has to do with the phase pattern of your texture and the animation rate not jiving. Search and explore the phenomena called "stroboscopic effect". I often run into this problem when animating the rotation of wheels. Hope that helps ✌️
