a good looking fence the only thing I personally like to use secrews not nails stronger and less chance damaging the timber enjoyed the video.

I prefer screws too Ratch, I've got a similar fence to build coming up and I think I'll use galvanized screws for that one. Thanks for the tip👍Kent.

Great video. Loved the relaxed calm nature of how you talk and do things, makes a nice change from many of the overly energetic 'creator' DIY channels you see nowadays. Also, great to see you leave your mistakes in, again it's reassuring for us DIY'ers to see. I was wondering why you didn't use screws also for the frame but saw in other replies it looks like you've switched to that. Another option I'm considering is to use resin anchors with sleeves in my hollow concrete block wall for the same task. Looks like they help when you have voids and allow for being less precise in trying to hit the solid part or worry about blowout. Finally, hope that pool is sorted by now as it looked like you were working in some heat! 😄

Hi. Can I stagger the palings like (how bricks are laid) as an alternative design as well? In that way your eye isn't always drawing to the start and end of palings? Love your informative videos. Please keep making more.

Can I use this same method with a meter high fence
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Gidday Hayden, great question👍 I’m no engineer but I would imagine that you would need extra fixings as extra height/ weight and wind resistance? Windage? would place forces on both the base fence and new fence. Check out how sturdy the base is so you don’t risk overdoing it. Best of luck 🤞 P’s. Any engineers here? Kent

I do not want to drill into my brick. Any ideas on how to make some sort of squeezer frame that would attach by some sort of squeezing clamp onto the top of the bricks?

What about if there was tile on top of brick. Would tile have to be removed first?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 8 ай бұрын
Hey Joe, good question mate, tiles are quite hard to, harder than brick. I guess the tile is at risk of cracking once a masonry drill bit starts drilling into it. I would have a go drilling through one first🤷‍♂️ Best of luck, Kent

Is there any need for wall plugs before putting screws in?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Hollie, not with masonry screws👍 I used 6x75mm galvanised ‘Ramset Anka Screws’ or similar… because they’re removable if need be without damaging the brickwork like Dynabolts tend to do. Best of luck🤙Kent

Hey Dan, So far so good. obviously 25 years ago when the brick wall was built it was engineered to withstand wind at the height it has been built - each time we add to that height we increase the windage. this small height extension is between 2 homes in a built up (trees) environment. now...fingers crossed. Could this be built on a sloped wall? Also, would it support being 6/7ft tall?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey Hexzylian, I don’t see a problem with doing this on a slope. As far as 6/7ft 😬 maybe a good question for an engineer as there is windage affecting the wall strength which has probably been built with footings to suit its original size. Best of luck, Kent

Moving to a rough estate and have a 3 foot wall all way around the property so I want some privacy will my 12 volt Makita combidrill with a hammer function be enough power to go through say a standard slab or breeze block I also have a 12 v impact driver I should be ok with that drill shouldn't I and nice video is buddy

Hey 2Stroke, yeah for sure! If it’s High density structural concrete it will put up a fight - but other stuff eg Besser blocks/bricks all good. just go slow so not to burn out the masonry bit and you’ll be all over it👌 test it out first and let us know how you get on. Kent

It looks great! I'm curious how much did all of the wood cost?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY Жыл бұрын
Hey Leah, sorry for the late reply... the wood cost $350 AUD, however the price of timber has increased some what. I would suggest measuring your fence and asking a lumber yard for a quote. best of luck, Kent

Hello, what if I have a cinder block wall, how can I attach the wood to the wall?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 11 ай бұрын
Hey Jacob, You can providing 1. the cinderblock wall is core filled with concrete, and 2. has a solid footing. the blocks themselves are a little soft and any fixings (bolts etc) should penetrate through enough to anchor into the concrete inside. Best of luck mate, Kent

Are wood expensive in Wales as well as it is her in US?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Emperor, I’m in New South Wales - which is a state of Australia, easy mistake but to answer your question… “Here in Australia, we didn’t see those huge percentage increases,” “Locally, there are still some further price increases to come through.” Major timber suppliers in Australia have notified they expect further price rises in August and September, though not expecting an increase of more than 50 per cent from the pre-COVID norm.” Sydney Morning Herald. I’ve heard 200-300% price increases in the US, is that what you have found? Kent

Hi, this is just the video I need for a project to build a similar slatted fence on top of a brick wall. I'm planning on a topper fence height of approximately 800mm. Would this be ok for attaching using the same manner with masonry screws as you have done?
@InspireDIY
@InspireDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jon, I'm about to do the same (similar height) and yes, same concrete/brick fixings, maybe close the gap a little between masonry fixings. I'm using screws for frame fixings for added strength. You could always add posts at certain intermediates (attached to side of wall) for more stiffness if required. I'd love to hear how you get on. Kent
@StuckInTheM1ddle

Also - for anyone that comes along and reads this. Worthwhile considering how much higher you're extending the height of an existing wall and windloads. It's possible for the extra height to act like a sail and pull a wall over if you go too high on a smaller/structurally unsound wall.
