I am over the mon about concrete screws. Doorpost into very old wall, didn't know to drill straight into brick and use concrete screws. Now I can install a doorpost into old brickwork...old lady 75 yrs old.

Hi I’m 76 next month it’s April 2024 now. A female I’m building a catio and for my cats to go out and an enclosed lean-to in my back yard over the back door, with a door on to the yard. Keep cats from going on the streets. I was wondering about how to secure the wood to the brickwork, you made it seem so easy. I’ve watched some other vids, that stressed me out, yours was perfection. I’ve done quite a bit of woodwork but never drilled anything into brick, Thank very much from East Anglia, Britain.

75 is just a number. I'm 83 and still finding projects to do around the house. Don't ever stop. Don't stress over things you can't do any more. Find and do things you can do. I say again, never stop.

Thanks for this video. But quick question, we have been trying to drill holes in our brick shed to put hooks up for my partners fishing gear, but we can't seem to drill through the brick! It's an old shed, and just ordinary bricks, and we've been using a hammer drill and a brand new masonry drill bit. What is making it so difficult to drill a hole? Yours went in like butter!
@Jack-Surreal_Panes
@Jack-Surreal_Panes 2 жыл бұрын
Right. Now I have done lots of work over the years and anything brick or concrete....we just don't get along at all. I try, like you, using the proper bit begin drilling and that's it. If I make a nice hole it is now too big. I used the same bits the concrete guys use to form concrete driveways. Guess that is why god created liquid nails and epoxy. LOL

Try a quality drill bit (try Dewalt or Erbauer) also make sure you are using a corded drill with hammer action on, that should do the trick.

When drilling masonry bits into concrete it takes a min to get started sometimes and sometimes you have to put a ton of force behind the drill. I'm sure this isn't the recommended way but if you put a lot of your wieght behind the drill to hold the bit down with extra force after a min it should grab and then start drilling. I was able to drill with a regular battery powered drill. The bits can be rly expensive. Don't buy a bit that comes in a pack of mixed types but a single standard masonry bit. Usually around here they are blue. Good luxk

I used these screws to mount a gatepost to the side of my now 125 year old brick house 12 years ago. Worked a treat. The gate was one side of a 6' high by 8' wide double timber gate. It's never moved at all. I used a ratchet to put the screws in. The other gate post was concreted 1000 mm into the ground with 50mm gravel in the bottom for drainage. At ground level and about 500mm below/250mm above, I wrapped Denso tape around the post. I also did the same with the post against the house but only to about 300mm deep. No rot in either post. Used pressure treated wood.

You’ve made a good point, nice and clear for everyone who wants to take up a do it yourself fencing replacement or repair. My choice has always been masonry nails, 100mm for a 50mm timber wall plate, six nails one hammer and I’ll be on to digging the first post hole while you’re still drilling. I’m not knocking you for what you’re doing here, I like your channel, if your average person with any capability to take on a job like fencing definitely needs the help from you as you well know. Back in the day we would chisel out the mortar, dowel it then nail into the doweling with ordinary nails, it’ll not want to go anywhere but sideways and the nails prevent that movement. My opinion comes from experience, and timber doesn’t last as long as it’s fixing these days 👍🏻
