This is how I used to build songs up back in 1985 when I had just one synth (Moog Source) only back then, no sequencer or DAW (except the small sequencer in the Source) - all recorded to a 4 track - record three tracks, bounce down onto 4th. Then another 2 tracks added and all bounced down. And then do it again.. 7 track and the hiss starts to build up. But never forget the sense of achievement of having a complete song with just one synth.
@RobertIverMusic5 жыл бұрын
I can imagine what a chore it was. Committing the ‘mix’ to one track etc etc. Thanks for sharing!

At the start of lockdown I of course lost my bartending job and was denied unemployment...which took about three months to find out anyway. I had to sell pretty much all my gear but kept an old MacBook and a Minilogue XD. Sometimes it would feel a little tedious compared to jamming with multiple pieces of gear, but it also felt like such an accomplishment to make whole tracks with only one synth, not to mention a testament to how flexible it is.
@bertvdlast2 жыл бұрын
I can relate to that brother. My first synth was a Moog Sattelite and then i saved enough to buy a TEAC 2340 4-track recorder and started to record and bounce.

Really bad-ass track! I was really digging the sorta neo-retro cyberpunk synthwave vibe, that type of feel is right up my alley. Great timbre usage/selection for the elements, very expressive and cohesive with the theme, but the arrangement structure especially was solid AF. Those chord progressions had some powerful sounding changes, that really made the bass melody feel dramatic & like it was bringing out some ice cold harmonies against the other synth layers, & dipping into just enough dissonance to be super satisfying on the resolutions in a sophisticated way. Great stuff man! I haven't had an opportunity to play around with a neutron yet, but stuff like this definitely has it on my TO-DO list. Cheers.

@@RobertIverMusic So what do you do: do you power it over usb? I use ac power, and i'm kinda not happy with the noise.
@RobertIverMusic5 жыл бұрын
The Neutron is a little more finicky (at least in my experience) when it comes to how you connect the unit to your mixer or sound card. I had some noise or high pitched whining and just by connecting the adapter to a different socket (not the same socket as my presonus card) did the trick. A good usb cable also helps. In the end I used a good old midi cable instead of the usb connection for the 'best' results. Although it has more noise than for example my Acces Virus B, it's not a problem in a mix (at least not in my opinion). And I really do like the sound and versatility of the Neutron.
@AndrewTSq5 жыл бұрын
Maybe a usb opto isolator could work also, to avoid strange ground loops. Midi is already opto-isolated. (in like 99% of all devices I own)

Thanks for sharing this. It gives me an idea about what is possible with the Neutron. I have been fine tuning my sound studio and made some simplifying of my equipment recently. I decided to keep the Neutron but let go of the Model D. Listening to your track seemed to confirm that I made the right decision. It also gave me ideas on how I could layer sounds from the Neutron using two loopers so that I could do the layers in real time. I have been enjoying what a looper and some FX pedals can do to extend the range of a synth...

@@RobertIverMusic kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKink2yOgr2Be9U So far my experiments have been limited. The video link is to a loop of a real tanpura, then overlaid, and duplicated to a second looper, which has a function of "1/2 speed" which makes it one octave lower. Since tanpuras traditionally have notes in two different octaves, it creates a rich sound when four octaves of notes are playing. I also ran them through some Audacity reverbs and delays (until I get my studio fully operational they work well for now). The bansuri in the video is me playing a homemade PVC bass bansuri (I am currently adding an extra lower note to this and making a second for duets to be possible).
