I'll show you how to build your own IBUYPOWER "Snowblind" style LCD case window for LESS THAN $100.
I destroyed two LCDs and monitor adjustment control board in the process. I purchased the wrong LED strip lighting which will be fixed in Version 2.0. This project took me three weeks to complete, but its much cheaper than buying a Snowblind PC.
VERSION 2.0 IS HERE! - • BUILD A TRANSPARENT LC...

Awesome dude. I built two with the expense of just one lcd. I wish your video was around then. I already owned a 90% white case on the second one so just a little bit of airbrushing here and there helped. I also implemented the cfl bulbs from the monitor for extra light. Didnt mess with my thermals too much. Love your work.

There's some pretty serious money to be made from phone farming, and it is pretty easy if you have some time on your hands dude. But yea I meant Intel as well not Nvidia I ordered a couple of Titan xps for the snowblind so Nvidia has been stuck in my head lol. After watching this I looked back at a short video showcasing the snowblind and some woman from Intel was like "Technology we developed" lol So basically she meant stole not developed.

Great video, thanks. Can this mod be done with an LED screen? I apologize if this has already been asked.
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 5 жыл бұрын
No need to apologize. The mod can be performed with both. Be aware that LED monitor could mean a display where individual pixels have their own backlight, like an OLED display, so this mod would be constructed differently. Some "LED monitors" are LCD displays with LED backlights. Make sure you know which one you're working with.

This is pretty cool idea, how ever when on PC i really dont see point of having extra things moving in your peripheral vision, power it takes to run this setup considering how much you actually look at it, heat it will generate inside your your case with and clutter it will fill pc with, depending on monitor used. Personally this is not for me as only reason for the window and light inside is to keep eye on dust build up.
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 5 жыл бұрын
It's for aesthetic value, not function. Consider that the computer inside is drawing much more current than the lighting or display. I find myself distracted by it a lot, especially while editing videos. These LEDs don't produce much heat and it hasn't affected any of my overclocks. I mean if the only reason you have a window on your computer is to monitor dust, I imagine a lot of my channels projects are not for you.

@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 7 жыл бұрын
+Gavin Walsh USB monitors only come in 16:9 aspect ratio. I needed a 4:3. Otherwise you have to fill in more of the window on the case. If I were using a case that has 16:9 dimensions that would probably be the route I would have gone.

@ImmodderNation

You would need to wire the 5v to the 12v and use a resistor to bring down the voltage. Google "Resistor Calculator" to find the value that you need. If you really have the same monitor just wire it like I have.

Hey dude, just wanna say thanks for this video. It's been really helpful. However I'm stuck on how to go about powering the LCD. I've seen people solder the monitor's power cables to a USB cable and power it that way. But I'm new to this sort of thing and have no experience with wiring or soldering. I don't really want to risk my PSU. What do you think the best way of powering the monitor is? Could I just use the power supply that comes with the monitor and just route the A/C cable through my case? Any help would be appreciated, thanks man.
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 6 жыл бұрын
+Ashnno Glad you enjoyed the video. Powering the LCD with the monitors power board is dangerous for multiple reasons. One, AC current can kill you. You could power the LCD with USB, still just 5V, but you're relying on the motherboard to do that instead of the PSU. If you wanted you could run a 5v power supply through the inside to the logic board and plug the adapter into the wall. The best way is really the way that works for you. The capacitors on the power board are large enough to electrocute you, so please be careful! Thank you for the question.

One more question; The monitor I'm using for the project is very similar to the one you have, and on the power supply there are two 5v connections. Does one power the backlight and the other the LCD? Or do they use power concurrently? How did you figure out which one to use? I saw you went over this briefly in your video but I'm still a little confused. Also, since the power supply converts A/C power to D/C power, could I just use a 5v D/C adapater and solder it to the 5v wires?
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 6 жыл бұрын
+Ashnno You don't want to use AC power. It can kill you. You only need 5V for the LCD, the power board needs the high current because of the backlight. I don't really know which 5V you need. Try cutting the wires carefully one at a time and see if the display guess out. That is how I figured it out, by eliminating wires I didn't need. Good luck!

@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 6 жыл бұрын
You don't! I kept the original power board and cut wires one at a time, checking to make sure it didn't turn off the monitor. If it does, reconnect the wires. Then I disconnect the wires from the power board of the monitor and connected it to the PSU with a molex connector. If you switch the positive and negative wires you'll trip the power supply. Good luck!

ImmodderNation will tripping the power supply ruin it?

Probably not. Hard to say because I have a Corsair RM power supply. It shuts off to protect itself from damage. Your power supply might not have such a feature, but I imagine most modern PSUs do. If you have a 5V power supply that would also work.

Possible yes as they're both TFT LCD. Just beware that TN panels typically have bad viewing angles and lack the color gamut of other panels like IPS. Hopefully modern monitors have fixed that.

@@ImmodderNation I bet people would love to see that video! Got mine figured out but I'd still like to watch it. My case is a V71 TG Snow with 4 TG panels, I'm basically going to make the whole interior into the mirror. The "snowblind" window makes me rethink things, but my case isn't really suited for that so well. Also prototyped a "smart" infinity mirror with an android tablet in the center... actually worked pretty well. No touch, so maybe hook it up with usb and control through the pc. Also working on a plan for a combo PSU shroud/GPU bracket. I bought a Deepcool GH-01 because it was cheap, going to take the light out and use it for the shroud. Etch an electronic circuit pattern for the light, originating from the PSU. The _other_ crazy idea I had the other day was a desk pc with a double monitor lift, (you may notice I have a thing for combos...) 8020 aluminum frames. If I want to go really crazy, a separate lift for a standing desk surface, and an arduino flex sensor to control the lifts with the force. Extra ATX PSU inside the desk for powering lifts, etc., and a conveniently placed panel with switches and binding posts for testing electronics. Before I get to any of that, need to finish the acrylic bender...

I watched the video. The backlight is replaced with a reflective material. I don't know if its mirror or metallic, but I imagine you would lose some transparency because of it. Hello, I would like to ask how you managed to pull off the anti-reflective film (layer) so nicely, because when I tried to tear it off, the polarizing layer also came off. I did it by putting some paper tissues on it and soaking it and leaving it there for 24 hours and watering every once in a while, but it didn't work. Do you know any other method or advice please?
@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 6 ай бұрын
Don't do what JayzTwoCents did. I would use another type of absorbant cloth. Everything else in your method seems fine. 24 hours may be too long. 6 hours should be long enough. Make sure your monitor has anti glare on it first as you may be pulling off the polarizer instead. Don't tear anything it should come off easily.

@ImmodderNation
@ImmodderNation 7 жыл бұрын
+The Gaming Freak Hey Gaming Freak. I don't have the measurements for an nzxt s340, but if you have one you could measure it. How many sheets you get depends upon how big the sheets are where you're buying acrylic. For eplastics.com, their minimum is 2 ft x 4 ft. I only needed one. For thickness I went with 1/8" thick for its durability, 1/16" could work too but I didn't want it to be that thin. In the video I explained 5:4 is the best commercial screen ratio for my case window. A perfect square 1:1 would be ideal but few manufacturers make them like that. You want a high contrast ratio for the blacks to appear better. The size and aspect ratio you get should depend upon your case window. Good luck

ok ..i am going to buy a 21 inch used screen ..it would be dell or hp i don't know the brand yet , just get what i find in stores ..the acrylic sheet should be one layer or 2 ..one before the screen and one on top of it ? and should i cut it all size or leave some edges ..and if u please get me the measurement i would be grateful because i don't know the exact dimensions and it will cost me a lot if i bought wrong

I didn't sandwich mine, I left the inside exposed, just don't hit anything against it. In my video, I showed you that you'll need to cut the acrylic larger than the window so that you have the ability to mount it inside of your side panel. My suggestion is to buy the case first, measure it, then find a screen size that will work.
