Good basic setup Jason. I would recommend 16-20 foot jumper cables as you may not have easy access. I would add: Floor dri or Kitty litter, you can put it into 2 gallon zip locks for use when stuck in snow. I have 4 separate bags for use Small (1'x2') carpet swatches, also for snow, to kneel on. Gloves, fix-a-flat, portable jack (I have Big Red jacks in all my service trucks). Many more options but yours plus the above should cover most

Great video 👍👍 in addition to what you mentioned, I’ve always carried water, matches, duck tape, candles, a long lasting food ration and blanket(s) other things depending weather I’m up north or in Florida. Oh and a window breaker.

Good vid. Some additions: A set of gloves (leather, mechanic gloves etc), small rubber mat (for kneeling on or sitting on), lastly a small piece of wood (2x4 or thick plywood) to put under a jack and prevent it from sinking in the mud/sand/snow etc.

Thanks for recommending the rubber mat and piece of wood! I think those would be excellent as well.

Good kit. That Wurkhos (made by Sofirn) is a decent choice. You may also want a headlamp though, especially for doing any kind of mechanical work under the hood. I like a lot of Sofirn's flashlight offerings, so would check them out. Add a roll of duct tape and a roll of wire to fasten things back in place or keep them off the road, like a hanging bumper. A small tarp can be cut as needed to patch over a broken window using the same duct tape.

I have two Sofirn 18650 lights already, Joe. They are a great price point for the performance. I like the other recommendations you included as well :)

Headlamp or replace that handheld light with a 90 degree angle light. The 90 degree is handy as a standup light or clipped to clothing for hands free use. Some 90 degree lights also have a magnetic base which makes it nice for attaching to body panels.

Two high-viz traffic vests, to use, while You are changing your tire, a blanket or two for the cold night, while You wait for AAA to arrive, and then a few bottles of water. The blanket is also useful, when You go shopping, and want to protect your nice car from scratches ;-)

Hi Jason, That's a good kit. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Only thing I would add are some blankets, non perishable food, some water bottles and some flares. Of course what someone may or may not need in an emergency kit depends on the usage of the vehicle and where they travel to. Steve.

You want a high-visibility vest as a minimum, and I would include a set of those triangle reflectors. I also carry a floor jack, but that is overkill. A note on first aid kits: You will need to determine if there is anything in the kit that has an expiration date, and add note in the kit with what it is and when it expires. This should be checked when you review the condition of your emergency kits, which should be done at least annually.
@Jasonoid

This kit does come with a little card inside stating the expiration date of the included medication and ointments. Good feedback to keep in mind, you always need to update the meds down the road! Thanks!

+1 on the lithium battery jump packs.look for one that can comfortably start larger engines. I personally have the one from Costco and I’ve started an Econoline Van. Plus side to having a jump pack is that they double up as a USB charger as well as area or signal lights on some models.

A small compact shovel if you live in snow country. Since I am not mechanically inclined and do live in the snow belt, I tend to carry items that will keep me alive and warm (think lightweight backpacking gear) more so than mechanical items. AAA is worth it to me; there are a few other benefits besides the roadside service.

In my gas powered vehicles, i carry a Norco boost plus 1000 amp. It has worked well. One of my vehicles gives me no warning when the battery is about to fail, so that was my solution, and often I am by myself. I also carry a set if work gloves (leather) a 10x10 piece of painters plastic and a movers blanket, mostly for warmth in an emergency.

I carry a headlamp, an inexpensive bright orange mesh vest that can fit over bulky clothes, a small fire extinguisher, strong tape, flashing LED road flares, gloves my size and a standard size for someone who may offer to help me, and cash in a hiding place. I bought a GOOLOO lithium jump starter that I have not needed to use. I have a spare tire, so I've never bought a tire patch kit, but you've given me pause to consider whether it is serviceable. It's tucked away; "out of sight, out of mind." AAA roadside assistance has never let me down, thankfully.

An interesting change-up, but very useful! I will definitely be adding the tire patch kit to mine as i have no spare tire! I use the Lokithore J401, which works great, in place of jumper cables. For my air compressor, i use a Ryobi power inflater along with a 9Ah 18+ battery, which also works great and is surprisingly powerful and quick to fill an empty tire (which i have done many, many times). For tools, is use an Xcelite service master 99 SM kit, which roles up into a small and compact tool kit (about 10 times the price of yours, but i already had it). And of course, always have a role or 3 of duct table and some pipe clamps. Thanks for this timely video, just before a lot of viewers take to the roads for holiday travels!

I've had and used 3 of the NOCO branded lithium car battery jump starters. The lower end models for regular cars. They're an American company, so of course, their products are on the pricier side. All have worked well. I leave a unit in my car all of the time and top them off every season, so around 3-4 months. They usually still have at least half a charge left. My only peeve about them is that they only include a flimsy cloth bag to contain the unit and its cable. You can buy a semi-hard case separately, but that too is a bit pricy. What I've done instead is to buy a cheap men's toiletry case to hold my unit. While it's not padded, there's plenty of room to toss in a pair of gloves and whatnot. Now for my suggestion to what else to add to your emergency kit. - reflective vest - poncho - one of those combo demolition hammer/crow bar tools

I have Gooloo GP4000 jump starter packs in both of my vehicles. They work great for me and I've used them on my own vehicles and to help other people as well. I still carry jumper cables though as a backup, or for situations like bad alternators in the recipient vehicle (used to charge up their battery from my vehicle enough to get their vehicle running for a short period).

Although I do carry a tool kit, I’ll admit that there is little use for it with a recent vintage automobile. There simply isn’t any vital part that is user serviceable in an emergency. For tire repair, a maintained spare is the first option, then a can of Fix a Flat. A spare set of fuses could be important, as well as reflective triangles or even better, a red strobe. In the end, I decided that a AAA membership is worthwhile. Of course these are all mechanical items. A true emergency kit contains life support items, e.g., water, food, heat.
@Jasonoid
@Jasonoid 9 ай бұрын
Excellent additions to the kit! An AAA membership can be VERY helpful. I used to be a member but I couldn't justify the cost anymore.

Nice review. For a basic kit I would add a headlight (Olight Perun mini), work gloves, an empty gas jug, a jiggle siphon gas hose, a roll of duct tape, an emergency signaling device to warn oncoming traffic and a fire extinguisher.

I'd swap the jumper cables for my 4K A GooLoo jump starter, and would add a good pocket knife if you arent like me, and always have 2 or 3 on you (I collect folding knives). Maybe a fixed blade knife. I'd do a more advanced first aid kit with a Cat tourniquet and compression bandages. Also maybe some sort of emergency water filtration, and 4 or 6 dehydrated emergency meals.

I do have a tiny lithium jump starter, however the last time i tried to use it, it didn't work, and i called AAA anyway. my best emergency kit has been AAA membership and a cell phone, but anyway. as for which lithium jump starter kit to get, i would recommend watching @ProjectFarm for their review of the units they tested, they have tested many different kinds over the years and your situation may vary as to what you need, if you are looking for a spoiler the noco unit performed very well.

I have the same first aid kit. not great but a good basic bump and scratch kit. Costco has a good, more full featured kit for about $60. nice that first aid kits are FSA eligible too. the VIAIR pump is nice, but I use the Harbor Freight Pittsburg pump that still uses metal construction and a metal piston but is about $30 cheaper. found it via project farm testing. project farm also tested battery jumpers and is a good source for info on those. I have an old anker jump starter. it does the job but isn't the best. I don't have a plug kit, but If I got one, I would probably get the westweld one featured on project farm too. for a flashlight I prefer a headlight but if you keep a brimmed hat in the car you can attach a standard flashlight to the brim with a clip in a pinch.

From personal experience, get the best inflator (better than that one if possible) that you can afford. That pump can save you hundreds of dollars given a worse case two two tire flat senario. High quality tire plug kit. GOOLOO jumper. The beauty of these tools is that you can walk up to the stranded and jump battery WITHOUT the chance of damaging YOUR vehicles electronics. Tow strap that is at least 40 feet long. Seems long until you are in a ditch that rescuing vehicle cannot come close to. A headlamp is much better for nightime car trouble. Hands free! Medical kit must have tourniquet and lots of gauze to stop bleeding which is the most common reason for death in an accident. As far as tools, just make SURE you have all the tools for a tire change. (jack, jack handle, wood block under jack, socket and a GOOD long breaker bar for leverage) Don't forget to make sure spare is inflated! Great video!

Thanks for the great recommendations, Henry. Very valuable information. In my opinion, Viar makes some of the best 12v air compressors. I have two of the 85P models for my SUV and car, and the 88P model for my truck that has larger tires. The one in the video I've used for 4.5 years and it's still going strong. I use it probably 10 times a year to fill up all tires when needed. The larger Viar 88p I have had for almost 10 years and it's going strong.
