My wife asked me to build an outdoor kitchen unit so I thought I'd check out KZbin (who doesn't?). However, having watched both parts of this project, two thing come to mind. 1) Great job! 2) I don't have access to every tool known to man. So, overcome and adapt it is! Wish me luck, I'll need it. 😎

Thanks Jon! That was a really nice build which seems (from this side of the camera) to have gone well (except for that leg problem you corrected). You said no finish at all. Even for the top? Won't it warp like crazy over the fall rains and snow of winter? Where is the water draining to? Just out in the lawn or woods is what I would do. Suggestion: The piece you cut out of the top for the sink might be used for a sink cover?!? Thanks for sharing. Really like how it came out!

This actually makes me very curious how long Jon and his family have been in their current home! At a guess I'd say at least a decade, and he seems like a native NJ'er, so perhaps more, but it's not been specifically mentioned as far as I can tell. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken. Otherwise, Jon, how long have you lived at your current address? (I hope this doesn't come across as too prying, my apologies if so.) Just a late night thought.

I wouldn't say it if not readily available on the internet (put there by Jon). He and his wife opened an art gallery in 1999 in Red Bank, NJ. They are still in the area. The family has been deeply immersed into the art scene for a very long time. Jon, to say the very least, has a broad range of skills.

Wow! Just found this video, as I was looking for pointers on how to attach the countertop to the frame. One question though. And I'm just a beginner, just made my first small 2x4 workbench for my scroll saw and my mini Dremel router. It came out nice. But, how do you predrill holes for the screws, and have them leave a sort of cup so you can cover the screw head with like a wooden plug or cap. So the screw head doesn't show? Sorry, beginner and I don't know a lot of the names for this. Which is turning out to be what's holding me back from learning. I did love how you turned that countertop in something very good looking!

+victor oropeza no problem, I predrill and countersink so the wood doesn't split. If I plan on filling the hole with a wooden plug , I will counter sink the hole deeper to make room for the plug. Hope that helps

Hi Jon, got a quick question for you , regarding a router, can a trim router do most things that a"full size" router can do. Obviously it can't cut through a lot of material at once. No router can but i mean can it handle a bit more than just champers and cabinet trimming ? thanks in advance !
@stathisbikos6563
@stathisbikos6563 5 жыл бұрын
since it's been years I thought I might add my two cents: I have a makita RT0700C, wich is most decidedly an edge router. Depending on the package you buy it can come with a plunge router cradle and tthe like. I have never found something it CAN'T do. Yes, you have to go slower and you need to take more, smaller cuts and yes. it's limited to 8mm max shank bits, but other than that It can do pretty much anything the bigger boys can. For heavy professional use and for heavy material removal save yourself the headache and get a big boy router. But if DIY work is all you do, a good trim router with the proper attachments will do the job and by very very handy for the smaller, more delicate and detailed stuff. I will also remind you that my makita and the Dewalt DCW600N are the two most used routers in DIY CNC router builds. So they do have enough oomph for large scale projects.
