very nice - but isn't the door diagonal thing going the wrong way?
@waynemorris68208 жыл бұрын
I was thinking same thing but with no real weight I guess it don't matter.
@bbtjd0018 жыл бұрын
Most doors usually open to the left. In this situation these doors are opening to the right. Also the braces are on the inside of the door. So... the diagonal is correct.
@jackharper20228 жыл бұрын
+bbtjd001 the diagonal brace should start at the opposite side to the hinge at the top and finish at the hinge side at the bottom to transfer the unsupported weight to the hinges
@bbtjd0018 жыл бұрын
After a little investigation it appears you are correct. I have always done it the other way. Live and learn. Thanks for the tip.

Hey Jon. This is a beautiful piece of outdoor furniture, but I fear that you have just instructed people how to make a gorgeous fire hazard. I'm an insurance adjuster and I'm in the middle of a fire claim from July 2016 wherein the BBQ (which was purchased in September 2015) ignited the wooden deck railing, resulting in nearly $800,000.00 damages. During our investigation to try to have the BBQ manufacturers held responsible for what we thought must have been an obviously faulty product, we noted that the BBQ instructions stated that the BBQ hood (rear and sides) must be at least 35cm from anything flammable to prevent ignition of those materials. 35cm being 14". Soft woods can ignite on it's own if it is heated to about 390 degrees, even if it is radiant heat rather than direct contact with flame. So the BBQ needs to be over a foot from the railing and anything flammable on either side. I see that you took the stainless steel side shelf off the right side to accommodate your beautiful cabinet. But that shelf is there specifically to make it so you can't put something too close to the hot sides and the bubbly top opens and kicks back to make you have to have the BBQ pulled away from the railing. This is why commercially available outdoor kitchens are made of stainless steel and stone materials. Providing that you have the space to the left of the BBQ, you can solve your problem by just putting the side shelf back on to re-establish that required gap (which will be smaller in low BTU BBQ's and large in higher BTU BBQ's), but then you still have that annoying space underneath the metal shelf where you cannot put anything flammable.

True. I have a sauna that has a very large fireplace to heat up both the sauna room and the hot water, so I need to burn alot of firewood to heat everything up. After Everything heats up, the fireplace gets very hot and it ignited a wooden seats in sauna which were 30 cm away from big steel stove, allthough there was no direct fire as the actual stove opening is in different room.
@bighands696 жыл бұрын
+Cole Bouchard The problem is not that he has made a wooden outdoor kitchen. The problem is that his barbeque area is too close to the house. The house its self has lots of exterior wood which is also a risk. By moving his barbeque further away from the house he reduces the risk to the actual house. No matter what material the kitchen is made out of and that includes engineered wood it is still a risk of fire.

Hi John, something which is a bit confusing to me is why didn't you leave room for expansion/contraction in the door panels, whilst levaving it every where else? I saw you had 2 screws in each slat of the doors, effectively disallowing any movement.
@eversleyowl8 жыл бұрын
I had exactly the same question!
@cristenbowman7 жыл бұрын
cfen matisse the space is for swelling of the wood not movement, if he only used one screw the wood would warp and curve.

What's the difference between a mitre saw and a chop saw, both kinda look the same for a DIY novice
@HeartlandMakesAndOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
The Chop Saw will only cut 90 degree angles up and down, the miter saw can cut bevels. IE, the chop saw head does not tilt in anyway, the Miter saw will tilt. Most chop saws will not pivot either, so the only way to cut angles on a chop saw it to tilt your material. Chop saws are typically used to cut metal. but can cut wood. Hope this helps have a blessed week.
