Build & Battle: Garage Hackery vs. Shop Owners, Who Does it Better? EP.7

This is it - the final stretch of the build. By the next episode, both the Mazda RX-7 and the Chevy S10 will have to hold together enough to do dyno pulls, practice runs, and of course the final 1/4 mile battle runs. But as usual... firing up a fresh LS and rotary build for the first time ever doesn't always go as smoothly as one would hope....

Budget builds are fun. A simple 5.3l, turbo and 4L80E always works well. Usually between a $3000 to $6000 build for someone with no connections, depending on the car you start with. But going above a simple budget Slayer usually sucks, always working out kinks and fixing broke shit with almost zero time driving. We have more fun with our 550hp-650hp shit than we do the fully built 1400hp no prep car

Honestly Brad’s truck is the most likely to be built by someone in their garage. Vargas used a lot of connections in his build to get parts that were way more expensive than what they paid for them. Need to have someone there when they buy used parts do an accurate appraisal on how much they’re actually worth.

Vargas boys bought a car that made them like 2g off the bat and only had to buy oem parts to build it. Crazy how the car they bought nearly paid for their build motor.

Absolutely! Despite what those Vargas lovin hoonigans say, which may I add have a vested interest in this seeming as close as possible, no one could build that rx7 for what they're claiming it "actually cost" The average joe or even average shop would have a helluva time making that car for under $15,000. I'm not saying it's impossible but sub $12,500 is pretty damn close to impossible. For shits and giggles they should take both of those cars, pretending to be average joes to various shops out of the blue and get quotes on how much it would cost them to build an identical car. Full build specs. Then tell them to do it for 9.5gs and watch em laugh They should have left the budget alone. That broke these builds right out the gate.

Brads comment about driver skill reminded me of Cletus. He has a really valid point. No offense to cooper at all but you put Cletus in any car Cooper drives and he would run a faster time. He’s just a more experienced better drag car driver. So this race could absolutely come down to a driver skill Win.

That kind of alignment just blows my mind, I just cant wrap my head around how they can get it in spec. But the hunter hawk eye machine that I use which shoots infrared light that hits targets that clamp to the wheel and reflect it back to the camera that is 5 ft in front of the car makes perfect sense to me.
