A little bit different than my typical videos- but hope this helps someone wanting to build a axe or knife target. i had previously built the usual 2x10 target and a friend showed me end grain targets. pvanfab

Have watched several (very good) DIY hawk/knife boards.... Your 2 sided board is most excellent idea!..... will run with it, will probably use hardwood battens instead of steel to keep weight down.... will add wheels to on one side of legs for moving around (live in SW FL so need to put under cover during summer TS weather now and then)....

A+++ video I absolutely love the way this was produced, no fluff, just the facts The cut list and the steps typed out right in the video make it so easy to screenshot I love the idea of the rotation, and the metal splines I'm pulling one of these together for a Boy Scout troop on Saturday, so I probably will leave out some of the features, but this is the best I have seen on KZbin Thank you so much for taking your time to share this My dog and shop companion , who enjoys my projects, sends a paw high five to yours. WELL DONE!!!

I saw a machine shop in Florida that had something similar for the flooring. It was about 1940's from what they told me. Can't wait to chuck the axes at the new target! Great job.

Hi @pvanweelden. Very nice build. Thank you for sharing. On a side note , not target related - Where can we buy the axes you used in this video ? Thanks

Thanks for this. Is the 3.625" length of the blocks long enough to prevent them from splitting when throwing axes?

We throw light axes mainly and it has been fine, but you could make the frame out of 2x6 instead of 2x4 and cut the 4x4s to 5.625" length

Hi pvanweelden. Firstly great job! Secondly might be a silly question...but why are these diy knife/axe/hatchet targets always made from the end grain? Sorry to ask but I am just a novice at the throwing mararkey.

Thanks uksglory! the reason for making one with the end of the grain (or end of the lumber) is because the end is more accepting of sticking the axe or knife into it. the end grain opens up easier than the surface grain

I like the design and those metal strips would really keep things well aligned. However I'm not a fan of gluing it all together as it makes for a one use Target board. When a block gets to chewed up it needs to be replaced and that won't happen with this design. Otherwise it's a really solid target board.

thanks, just spray some alcohol on the joint to loosen the glue

What boards/lengths did you use for the leg supports? 2x6x8?
@pvanweelden
@pvanweelden Жыл бұрын
The vertical legs are 2x6 cut to 79.5". the bottom supports are 2x4's with 45 degree support pieces. if you pause the video around the 0:45 to 1:02 , the text gives all boards and dimensions. thanks!
